My 119lb Weight Loss

Ross Members,

I've been lurking here since this past May and posting infrequently. I thought I would share my story and some pictures with you.

To start out with, I've always been "The Fat One", "the big guy" ever since I can remember. I used to eat about every meal from a fast food sack. I decided that after my 22nd birthday in late March I would do something about it.

In March I had just finished a 6 month battle with quitting a 2 pack a day smoking habit and I needed something else to think about besides the next cigarette. I decided that a diet and workout routine would be the perfect constructive distraction.

I started out on April 1st 2007 at 6' 5" weighing in at 315lbs.

I began with just a simple low calorie diet and very very light exercise. I would walk my dog around the block, or maybe do a few sit ups. It was really a joke in retrospect. I decided that I needed to up the workout and I bought a crappy Everlast punching bag and stand along with some gloves and began working out.

I started reading this forum along with and some other boxing forums. I started to go 10 3 minute rounds with the heavy bag per day. This progressed into more intense fighting type workouts with a constant emphasis on a diverse training routine (Heavy Bag, Rope, ICT, Running)

I then started running and have never looked back. It's been a hell of a journey. Just last week I completed a 5 mile run without stoping for the first time in my life. I then ran an 8 minute mile 5 minutes after the 5 mile run (Not fast but good for my personal record).

I weigh in daily, and I had been planning on writing this thread the past few weeks but I finally just did it today. This morning I weighed in at 196lbs.

I decided to snap some pics:

I have dropped from wearing a "XXXL" shirt size and a 46" waist to a "Large" and a "34-36" waist. I have also discovered I have some wide hips. Even though the number is an arbitrary benchmark I have used BMI to calculate my progress. I have gone from a 37.3 to a 23.2.

My wife pictured in the "before" shot has also applied the same techniques and lost a total of 70lbs and looks AMAZING. Our lives have improved so much.

I wanted to share my story with people on this board because it was the pictures in this specific sub forum of this board that helped me to achieve my goals.

Thanks,
Mike

 WELL DONE, MATE! Both you and your wife! Wow, that is really excellent!

I think it is so cool that you started out doing the :boxing:boxing thing! I never even considered that, but it must be a fantastic workout. And there is truly nothing like running, is there

Fantastic job, hope you just LOVE your new, healthy body & life.

cheers from :eh:

Wow..

Awesome job Mike. You really look great. I am in the same boat as you with my initial weight of just under 320, currently 298. I would like to get to around 200 and maintain that weight. I am concerned with losing the weight so quickly as it might lead to a lot of loose skin. Did you have any issues with loose skin since you lost it so quickly? If so, is it getting any firmer since the loss? It is really inspiring to read what you have done. Thanks for posting Mike!

Congratulations to you and your wife! Your pictures are inspiring. I bet you feel healthy and amazing, you look it too. Good for you!

WOW!!!! Great job.. You look like a totally different person. xcellent work you did :) It's so weird how our "thin selves" don't look much like our "fat selves".. This is one of them :)

Looking great!

I do have a few issues with "loose skin" and don't know that it will ever go away. You have to consider that I did 22 years of damage to my body, and there will always be some visual representation of that. Really the only place I struggle is with my stomach. I do have some loose skin there but I think that with a pretty intense core training I can minimize the effect. I also know that my age will play into it. I'm still young so YMMV

You have to consider that once you loose the fat you can always put muscle back on to stretch things out in a good way.

I will say that if loose skin is stopping you then forget it. Having a huge stretched out gut hanging over your belt is far worse than having loose skin. Seriously.

As for the "quick" aspect of it, I know the loss was quick but it didn't feel quick or unhealthy. I basically just shocked my system into a healthy diet and started exercising like a madman.

One thing that really helped speed things up for me was to isolate myself from most of my friends. I know that sounds insane but when you do that, you instantly loose any desire to go out to eat, or "cheat" on a diet.

As for the boxing, yeah it's a hell of a workout. It's different than running but in a good way. Running is pure cardio. My legs are never tired it's always my heart and energy that is worked out. My form of boxing training is 30% cardio / 50% muscle endurance / 20% strength. It's finally starting to give me some real definition to my arms and back which I have never had before.

To anyone who really wants to learn a great workout/eating foundation I cannot recommend Ross Training enough. This guy is a genius. There is no hype to his philosophy. He can be found at Truly a great bunch of guys over there.

Congrats Mike on your Awesome weight loss!!!! I am trying to do the same:) What a huge difference .....

I've did the exact same thing. I still see my friends, just not as much because when we do get together we usually eat and drink too much. My friends are all skinny and stay skinny.

Way to go on the weight loss, Mike. Hi everyone!! I am a newbie. Currently I weigh.. gulp...297 lbs, and I am 5'4. I just turned 39 yrs old, and I am wanting to lose at least 100 lbs by December 2008. I work at home, there for my job is basically sitting, however, I am able to exercise and stuff while working at home. For the most part, I eat well, but like most humans, I have my moments. I was hoping that maybe this forum and the peole I meet here will will be able to help me along. I have a hard time with my daily eating plan, meaning what to eat and when to eat. If they is anyone out there in cyer world that has any idea, please, I would like to hear them.

The Ross Training looks top notch. He seems like a stand up guy that knows his stuff. I just ordered one of his manuals. Thanks for the info Mike, much appriciated.
