Muscle = Strength?

im gain very noticable muscle lately, but i dont feel stronger

ie. my bisceps got bigger but im still doing the same amount as i did when i first started... its just like i dont feel like its easy to lift or easy to do more....

your probably just getting fatter and its going to your arms. Unless.... your body needs more rest to feel the full strenght gian

Very Very good point jenn. I see it all the time. Some buff big guy who things hes strong but really.... hes weak.

no.... what she meant was size does not mean your strong. And yes lifting weights will get you stronger it just depends how much you lift and how you lift it......

if you want strong biceps, rows will get you there faster than isolating it. also, training for size is different than training for strenght. training for strenght can mean doing big compound movements for 3 reps. while size is 8-12 reps

On top of that, power and strength aren't the same either..

no, but what most people think of as strenght is really power :p
isent power just speed AND strenght?
you can have the strenght to lift 100kg bench, but if your speed is too low, you wont be able to put out that strenght in the short ammount of time it requires you to lift the load, so it will fall back down. Am i right?

im trying to get into a good MMA state, where as im not too bulky, but as strong as possible

striking strength is mainly from conditioning your body, but i need like lifting and pulling/pushing strength too :/

Power= Strength+Speed
yes. If you want power, I believe you should be explosive when lifting weights, but I'm not sure about this fact.

Check out

the strongest man in the world ( or rather winner of the strongest man in the world competition) posts there and calls himself Kotoryu.
I saw that competitrion on TV and he was almost the smallest man in the comp.

He's nice. He's nice so he'll likely answer any question you have about it.

Excellent opportunity fopr you and since for all intents and purposes he knows more about that than I do , I might leave you with that.

cheers

The winner of the 2005 World's Strongest Man Contest is a guy name Mariusz Pudzianowski. He is 6'1'" and weighs close to 300lbs. Not the biggest guy in the WSM, but still huge. I would not use him in an argument about muscle size versus muscle strength. Also, I looked at that site and I am skeptical that the guy that posts there is Mariusz.

what kind of rows karky?

All kinds of rows, but you should work your whole body.

The body doesn't like to let any one muscle get out of proportion to the rest, because then you risk injury.

Get a book called "New Rules of Lifting" by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove.

Koto_ryu over at Bullshido lives in Pennsylvania and does not compete in WSM. He does compete in strongman competitions but not The Worlds.

Whichever way it is, the man can answer your question. you can either jump on me about it, or go speak to him.

i 've been playing Martial arts myself for almost 20 yrs, and really..if you're wanting to produce better results in mma, work on your strike form and your grappling. If you understand the tao of grappling...blocking and exploiting angles to move limbs and so on ( and yes, I have sparred black belt bujinkan shidan of 15 yr + exprience training off and on at the Hombre with the Soke..and landed the first and only strike ...and have high level exposure and training / sparring experience in loads of systems... ) and then work on your speed so if they do a have a big bok choy it doesn't land and therefore doesn't matter. .. way than working on your size.
The monks at shaolin, particularly the old school monks of the 32nd generation and earlier, have a skill they iron palm. ..meaning with good breathing and posture and good form and so on, they can do much more damage with that skill than some big guy with lots of muscle that doesn't train speed and flexibilty as well and therefore who's muscle doesn't work as fast or well through enough rom.

I'm not sure how new you are to ma, but that logic is typical of newbies and imo, silly logic and knowing all the men bigger than myself i've sparred with or fought with and what matters in that dynamic, not one thats going to get you your win.

cheers and good luck working it out.
