Muscle strain? It's been 10 days

I am wondering if this is a simple muscle strain or something more. 10 days ago I worked out to my usual routine, but I also was sliding and moving some really heavy boxes at work that I shouldn't have been moving. The next day I woke up with this pain in my right upper back/shoulder area. The strange thing is that it only hurts when I flex my head forward and back and to the left. It feels like a sharp pain that is running down my upper back to the right of my spine and into the shoulder blades and does not hurt when resting. It's been 10 days and the pain is still there. It's not horrible and I don't have to take medications or anything but I am getting worried.
Could a simple muscle strain cause pain after all this time? I haven't exercised it or gone to any PT or anything. Also, what muscle is it that I could have injured?

Yikes, sounds painful. Do you ever visit a chiropractor? I wonder if this could be a good cause to see them - chiropractors can provide therapy and guidance from injuries like this. I'm guessing if the pain has lasted this long, you probably want to check in with a doctor.

Sorry I missed this before. This almost certainly sounds like a trigger point, if the pain is referring down like that. My guess is that it's in the upper traps. That one is really commonly activated by "sleeping funny". When I get that one, I just lie on a tennis or lacrosse ball and find the point that triggers the referred pain and then hold the pressure there until it's gone.
