muscle loss???

Gym fanatic.. want to know how to decrease calve size and shoulder size, train 5/6 times a week, do not want to train less but would like to know how to get smaller muscles..current workout 45 mins cross trainer,20 min run followed by weights and resistance training...have increased reps and lightened wights..seeing no improvement as yet?

I'm no expert, but I would guess more cardio, less weights.

And if you don't want your calves, could you send them my way? I want bigger ones! lol

Good luck to you.

Why do you want to do this? I've never heard of anyone wanting to lose actual muscle....

To lose muscle, you basically have to not use it AND not eat enough so your body wants to reduce muscle to cope with mass calorie deficit: catabolism. If you continue training and using those muscles...and you eat a reasonable diet, you won't lose muscle. Are you sure it's muscle and just not bulkness around the muscle?

ha, sorry guess was v.vague.. probably bulkiness around the muscle as you say, although don't think i want to lose any weight, but i have stopped doing weights now..my shoulder muscles just seem to be quite prominent and calves are just too big 14 1/2 inches..not v feminine. would you recommend static/swill ball etc excerxises to create less muscular look??
thanks for your help
tasha

Your muscle size and shape, aside from training, is mostly determined genetically and you can't change that. I have huge calves and very broad shoulders because I just have a stocky build and nothing will change that. As these are your two problem/noticeable areas, I'm guessing you also have a broad stocky build, so basically you are stuck with it. You could do like Bikeswimlaugh said but you obviously don't want to. Its impossible to reduce muscle size without losing a lot of strength and endurance and overall health. You can't reshape your muscles, its all genetic.

In other words, your SOL

14 and 1/2 inches is not big. And you look great in your photo why do you bother? Do cardio and do a full body workout once a week to stay toned.

It's highly unlikely that you lost muscle. generally myocytes (muscle cells) will only hypertrophy (grow larger) or atrophy (get smaller). starvation diets and especially those that follow extremely low calorie diets combined with rigorous exercise can cause substantial muscle wasting or a loss of muscle tissue as these cells are broken down and metabolized for energy.

why do you think that you have lost muscle? if you are seeing a general lack of strength that is a sure sign of overtraining. which is basically when there is a decrease in neurological function which prevents the muscles from being able to contract properly.

Acid Reflux

You need to re-order your workout. weights before cardio. ALWAYS.

Cardio can be done when you have little glycogen left in the muscles. Weight training cannot. Aerobic vs. anaerobic.

reprioritize the program.

thanks for the help, have decided to carry on with the same training routine, but am trying to cut up at the mo, am aiming to enter a fitness model show in apr next year so will be training v hard!! embracing the leg muscles now =)
