I just made my first purchase at a supplement store today, the Mega Men Sport from GNC. I noticed that I live in Canada, and there is no product information on the GNC Canadian site, just on the American Site.
Why do I make a big deal about this? Well... there are different warning labels on each product. I do NOT have them mixed up.
Here is a picture of the box.
Here is a link to the American version:
It has the exact same product name, both contains 90 caplets, both time released.
So, the differences in warning labels are as follows.
Both version have the exact same statement about how its not for pregnant women, and not for people who require medication... all that stuff.
However, the Canadian package reads: This package contains enough Iron to seriously damage a child. There is 5mg of Iron in the Canadian version, and none in the American
The American version does NOT say this. The American package also says, that this product should be discontinued 2 weeks prior to surgery. Where as the Canadian Package does not say this.
There are different ingredients in both. The American one says it contains fish and soybeans, Canadian doesn't.
First ingredient on the Canadian label, is not stated on the American one, which is Beta Carotene, 10000IU per serving.
Then you get your vitamins...
Canadian:
A 2500IU
D 400IU
E 125IU
K1 80mcg
C 300mg
B1 50mg
B2 50mg
American:
A 5000IU (double)
D 200IU (half)
E 100IU (less)
K1 NONE <-- But there is 80mcg of K (not sure if its the same?)
C 300mg (same)
B1 NONE
B2 NONE
Anyways the list goes on... there are many many more ingredients, and the amounts in both hardly match up. And there are different vitamins in each supplement.
So, what does this mean?
I want to know, are there different levels of acceptance in the drug industry in each country?
Why is there Iron in mine, but not in the American version?
Why does it not warn me to discontinue 2 weeks prior to surgery? Does that mean I don't have to worry about that?
Why is there such a big difference? Its cheaper to research one formula, and have it mass produced, and shipped out, instead of researching more than one formula?
Which supplement is more effective or safer, or over all better to take?
Why not name them slightly different, or change the way the package is?
This is only a Multivitamin... what differences are there with the more serious muscle building formulas? Are there certain formulas that Canadians deem safe which the Americans do not? This scares me from some of those fat burners I was thinking about.
