Mstia's Diary

Ok I was debating whether or not to start a diary. It cant hurt and will more that likely be a useful tool for me.

Where to begin? Ok, I started this new diet ..no no not a diet, Lifestyle change on thursday October 23, 2008. I have tried to loose weight in the past usually due an event such as a breakup, upcoming vacation or most recently my wedding. But this time it is different, I just woke up on thursday morning and decided I was tired of this baggage and wanted something new, something better. So thats encouragement in it self, knowing I can say I am doing this for me.

Anyway so I began at 250 pound! the biggest I have ever been in my life. And in the first seven days I have lost six pounds. However I am realistic and dont expect to keep that up, I am really looking for two to three pounds a week. During the first week I had Oatmeal every morning, which is good for me b/c I usually dont eat breakfast and if i do its not anything healthy. But I must be honest I do add two teaspoons of brown sugar to the oatmeal, what the hey I do need some calories for energy right? Anyway dinner was fish and steam veggies all week. I started with the frozen veggies but they were gross so on day two I steamed fresh veggies and it was pretty good. Lunch was usually fruit, yogurt and wheat bread with swiss cheese or peanut butter. Lunch is my biggest problem b/c i just dont know what to eat, I needs some ideas. When I go to the grocery store later today I will look for low sodium canned soup, if there is such a thing. If I can find some, I will have that for lunch some days.

Exercise!!!

It hasnt been bad, I have walked 2 to 3 miles (about an hour) everyday without two much pain. One day I even went twice, it happened only b/c I went in the morning with my husband and then a friend called me in the evening to go with her b/c it was getting dark but she didnt want to miss a day. however that wont happen again, I had to soak my feet in epson salt.

I went to the mall with said friend yesterday, she bought a bikini as motivation to loose weight by next summer. I thought about doing that also but decided against it. I am not sure If I will be in a bikini even if I met my goal weight. I have stretch marks on arms and tummy. I read that stretch marks means there is permanent damage to the skin so I dont know if when I lose weight I will have a tight tummy or alot of loose skin. I need to find this out. Will I need a tummy tuck or will wieght training do the trick? Is there something I should be doing from now to prevent extra skin at the end of my process. End of my process ..ummmm I guess with a lifestyle change there will not be an end because I want this change to be permanent.

Ok I chatted enough, With that I will end this post.

Ok went to grocery store and bought some special K ...ummm I they have a cinamom pecan flavored on..yummy two flavors I really love in one. I also found healthy choice canned soup that I will have for lunch. It has 400mg of sodium, is that alot? I need to find out how much i should have in a day. Well it was better than the regular canned soup which contained 700mg of sodium.

Also got my favorite fish Tilapia and chicken breast. Crap forgot the brocoli ..oh well next week I'll get it. Well I am gonna finish up my special K breakfast and go for my walk.

hi!
You know, 400mg of sodium is alot...but your just starting off and I wouldn't overwhelm yourself with every nutrient out there. Just concentrate on the big things like cals, and making sure you get in your fruits and veggies, ect. Maybe overtime you can think more about sodium...unless you have high blood pressure, then it becomes more important to work on that now.

good luck on your journey, you'll get there!!

Yay! I lost two pounds this week. I am really suprised because I didnt do any physical activity and ate fastfood one day....ok ok fine two days.

Gosh image how much more would I have lost if i had stayed on track...anyway I'm am back on task now

I am feeling super good today...did my 3mile walk this morning....the second one will be dont this evening. Mon. wed. and fri. i go twice a day...the other four days I go only once. I need to find some way to incorporate weight training into my routine. my arms are so huge.

Just a suggestion, but carry water bottles with you when you walk. You can do arm curls and other upper body exercises while you walk. And if water isn't heavy enough, take empty bottles and fill them with sand or something.

Congratulations on your loss so far!

Thanks Korrie...I think I am not going to do the soup more than twice a week...I dont have high blood pressure but I do have family history of it, so i want to be careful.

You could try salads for lunch, if you are not having salad for dinner. I love salad and I make them out of everything (today I had broccoli and cawliflower (I do not know how to spell that) salad). They are not to heavy, so you do nto fall asleep in the middle of the day but nutritiously enough to keep you going.
Otherwise a good quick and easy meal is an omelette, use skimmed milk to thin down the egg and put veggies inside instead of cheese. Some people on here also use one nromal egg and 2 just eggwhites and stuff like that but I just can't bring myself to do that as I would be wasting half the egg (and I live in a ocuntry where starvation is a big problem).
Or hummus with cut up veggies to dip inside is a great lunch! I wish I could get hummus here, they only have it in a restaurant, I can't get it in the supermarket...

About the stretchmarks... nobody can tell you good or how bad you will look once you are thinner. The thing is stretch marks are not going to completely go away, but as your arm becomes slimmer the skin may go back together and you won't be able to see them as much. I have them on my breasts and although I already lost 2 cupsizes, they are still there, no change at all. I also had one on my inner thigh and as my leg got thinner that stretch mark is gone (or so it seems).

Your meals look delicious, I love fish, tilapia is so yummy, and steamed veggies are great. Some people rely on routine a lot, some people cannot deal with the same food over and over, you have to figure out which one you are. I have certain foods I could eat all day every day, and certain things that I would love once a week but not daily.
If you do find a routine that works that is great, but remember, do not deprive yourself of stuff because otherwise you will just overeat on it next time around. It is better to have your cravings in small amounts! Like 1 choc square instead of the whole package.

Have a great week, Camy

Thanks Camy! Yeah i am having salads for lunch some days...I guess my biggest problem is that I cant really cook..lol but I am finding some good recipies online. Yeah I am not really gonna worry about the stretch marks right now..I am just gonna focus on getting the weight off and getting healthy.

So I weighed myself today and I am down another two pounds. So thats a total of 10 pounds since I started on 10/23/08. I am extremely proud of myself especially since i dont feel like i am going to extremes with anything or pushing my body too hard. YAY!

well things have been going pretty good.

Last week I lost 2 pounds but my appetite is not really there. I dont know what happened its like I am not really hungry so I forget to eat! Which I dont think is a good thing. My body responds with more weight loss when I have the 5 small meals. I hadnt be keeping up with my food journal either. I am gonna get back to journaling so I can make sure I am eating a healthy amount of calories and not underconsuming.

My work outs have been pretty good. I am consistant with that. I think its time for me to push my self a little more with the speed that I am walking at. I think my body has adjusted to the current pace because when I walk with my friend I have no issues with walking and talking at the same time. In the beginning I use to run out of breath.

Anyway my goal for this week is 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. Hope I get there. Also I changed my ticker. I orginally had my weighloss goal at 160pounds but I changed it to 240. I think it will be better for me to start out with a smaller goal and when i near it or reach it i will adjust it to 160 or 155 again.

hello :)
nice to see you're determined to do this in a healthy and rational way. and if you feel you can pick up the pace then that's what you should do. if keeping the stronger pace is too difficult for you, just mix. do few minutes of stronger pace and then 5 minutes slower. that will help you in losing weight even more.
the cooking is all about experimenting. try simple things, the basics and soon ideas will come to you.

also i have a simple salad recipe that can stay in your fridge for days, its healthy and you can play with it (by using different ingredients). its not that high in calories and fills you up nicely. and its a good option for lunch.

i usually mix in a bowl cooked mixed beans, corn, green or red pepper, olives filled with pimento cut in half. that's the base that i usually make, but again it goes with the preferences. the good side is it can be stored in your fridge for days.

now you can put every time you eat it different things in it. for example one day feta cheese, or hard boiled eggs, tuna, chicken, etc etc. you can mix feta cheese with all of these ingredients :)

instead of beans you can use green beans, only corn, carrots etc. there are many variations :)

also hummus and other similar things are pretty easy to prepare. if you want the recipe let me know :)

have a great day :)
Lena

Thanks Lena, I am going to try that salad. I'll pick up some ingredients today when i go to the store.

So its officially a month since i started this journey, i didnt lose any weight this week :( but i did lose an additional inch, so my grand total is 10 pounds and 2 inches off my waist. I am so proud of myself. I can wait to see where I will be on 12/22. 10 pounds may not be alot compared to where i need to be but i feel great. over the last month i did have some slipping but i would just get up the next day and work a little harder.
