MsBee's Weight Loss Journal

aww, good luck in your journey. You have a lot to lose and with the support of WLF I think you can do it :)

xoxo

Oh, I hear you on the bike seat! I love my bike and would ride it so much more if I could tolerate that darn seat. I'll have to do a little research of my own on that, but I'll take a look at that one you posted. Hope the new seat works out for you!

MsBee, I'm sorry but I have to question the sources of your recent posts. Those sites both have a monitary gain from stating those items about artificial sweeteners. It is a detox website (Detoxing is a myth and scam as is).

A smarter source is the Mayo Clinic.

Always look into who is your source.

Bicycle Seats

I decide that I cannot sit on this tiny bicycle seat any longer and so I did some research and found a seat that I think I may like better. After looking online a bit I came across a seat that looks like a padded tractor seat. I kid you not! A tractor seat! Oh yes, I’m quite sure that’s the one for me, so I placed an order for it. It’s called the Schwinn No Pressure Bicycle Seat. You can Google it easily if you’re interested. In all honesty the reviews aren’t good for this seat, but I need something that’s going to support my big behind and at the same time stop the pain I’m going through so I can continue on with my exercise program. It arrives in the mail at the end of the week. I’ll be sure to let you all know how I like it.

Keep fighting the obesity fight. We can get there one step at a time.

Hey MsBee.. welcome to the forum. It's great to see someone so eager to better themselves. I too hate the normal bicycle seat as well. I have recently started going to a 45-60min spin class 2-3 times per week. They (the instructors) say that the butt will eventually get used to the pain.. but all I feel is my butt going numb and in pain at the same time. B/C this is a class at the gym here on my Air Force base, I can't just bring in my own seat and a wrench to change it out everytime.

So what I found that worked for me is a combination of a gel cushoin cover for the bike seat along with padded bicycle shorts. I instantly felt relieved the first time I sat down. Ever since I have not had any pain. At first I thought it wouldn't be worth buying them, but after a few weeks I have totally got my money's worth and am sure they will last a long time.

I used the articles I did because they outline the side effects of the artificial sweeteners whereas the one's you've suggested don't do that. I feel that the links provide good information about the side effects whereas the one's you've posted don't. I'm not sure I understand why you prefer the links you're shared to the ones I've shared. Regardless of the source of the information, it is good information nonetheless is it not?

Because the source you used for the first one is a Detox site. They want you to feel these things are bad because hey! buy our product to help remove those 'toxins'.

The source I quoted is the Mayo Clinic, a non-profit medical group. They are considered one of the gold standards of medicine. They don't have a reason to say they are bad so they make a buck. According to them (and the others) there is no medical proof to these being unhealthy.

EDIT: As far as your second choice, there is no actual medical studies quoted. It is written by someone with a Masters in Policical Science, basicly a blogger not a doctor or a scientist.

It's the source you quote I have a problem with. It's akin to me quoting a side selling antioxidants giving studies saying that Acia berry is a miracle fruit.

I would like to know where I can get a gel cushion cover and padded bicycle shorts. I've never heard of either. Am very much interested.

You can find them pretty much anywhere. Google works wonders. Just do a search for Cushioned Bike Shorts and Cushion Bike Seat Covers. I know that Wal-Mart sells the seat covers but not sure if you will find one that cover the Schwinn seat you ordered. As for the shorts, I found alot online but ended up purchasing mine through a local sports store called Scheels. I'm not sure what brand they are, but they ran me like $35 for the shorts and around $20 for the seat cover. I hope you find some that work for you. :gnorsi::patriot:

I did find this weird looking seat. Interesting, I wonder how comfortable it would be.

Sugars And Artificial Sweeteners

I’m of the opinion that artificial sweeteners are bad for our bodies. I have this view because five years ago I discovered that they were causing my heart palpitations. I stopped consuming them immediately and haven’t had palpitations since.

I was angry when I first discovered this. I wondered how many other people experienced the same thing and felt that same stab of fear for their health that I did? I wondered why this information wasn’t printed on the packages of these products.

The culprits for me were Aspartame and Sucralose. I depended on them to help me live with my sweet tooth and keep calories down. So many low calorie sweet snacks and drinks contain them. They add an element of gladness to a dieter who’s trying to cut down on calories.

Can you believe these lists of possible side effects?

I’m of the opinion that science and marketers will tell us what they think we want to hear about food products just to make a buck. In advertising marketers conveniently leave out the possible toxic effects an item may have on our bodies. Everything seems strictly driven by money. I think advertisements for artificial sweeteners should contain dialogue about some of their side effects, the same as the ads for prescription medication.

I think it’s time to get back to what’s more natural. Honey for example has only 20 calories a teaspoon and sugar has 15. Surely these few calories won’t break our calorie banks for the day.

Sugar has gotten a bum rap over the years. All you ever hear is about how bad sugar is for you and how we should be working to eradicate it from our diets. Why? In moderation, sugar is not bad for our health. Now I’m not talking about dextrose or high fructose corn syrup. I’m talking about pure cane sugar. The stuff we put in our coffee or sprinkle on our cereal each day. That sweet goodness we stir into our iced tea on a hot summer day. That’s the stuff I’m talking about.

We’ve all heard the arguments against sugar, how it raises insulin levels and taxes our bodies. This is substantial enough information to realize that we must consume sugar in moderation. In my opinion it’s much healthier putting a teaspoon of sugar in your cup of coffee than putting a packet of artificial sweetener in it, and I’m quite sure it’s not going to cause me to gain weight.

Ok, ok, I know you’re going to argue the insulin thing with me and remind me that diabetics need a sweet treat from time to time too. I know. That’s why I’d like to tell you about, or remind you of, sweeteners such as Xylitol and Agave nectar. Both are sweet and comparable to sugar in flavor. Both come from natural sources. Both are low glycemic sweeteners. Neither has a bitter aftertaste. Although they are a bit more pricey then sugar, they are worth the extra money if blood sugar levels are a concern for you.

In our struggles with weight loss, adding artificial substances to our diets can’t be good. Let’s all try to eradicate the artificial sweeteners from your diet.

I agree with you on this!!!!! I persoanlly think these warning should be put on anything that contains artificial sweetner, list the possible effect like on cigarette packs! They are as toxic more people should be warned!

But the science doesn't say that!

People say artificial sweeteners are bad without seeing the fact that there hasn't been enough evidence that says that in the least! Artificial is NOT evil!

If you personally don't want to eat it, fine. Just don't pass off information as fact or science when it isn't.

Hype is not all it is cracked up to be. It is NOT good for those with diabetes.

Your source tells me nothing. Doesn't matter it's the Mayo Clinic or not. And if you're going to pick apart the sources of the information then why don't you find yourself another thread to do it on.

I already knew these things were bad by the way my body was reacting to them. I didn't need no damn website to tell me that. The confirmation I found online was from multiple sources, I simply posted one of them. If you have issue with my links then remove the damn things but stop badgering me about it on my own thread. If you don't like my informtion then stop reading here.

And I'm supposed to believe that all the links you pass off contain only the best information........when pigs fly!!
