Welcome to the forum. You have come to a great place for support and to learn a few things.

You are off to an amazing start and should be so proud of yourself. Keep up the good work. I agree with Steve in your pic thread, you are beutiful and your smile is amazing.

Keep us posted on your results.

Matt

you go girl!! Sounds like you have your head on straight and are on the right track! okay, I know this may sound like a dumb question and I have never been so I'm not being sarcastic at all. .Is horse back riding a form of exercise? I guess it really would work out your arms and legs. How else does riding help?

:seeya:Hi there
I lost my first 50 lbs with WW and the rest has been mainly through exercise, I believe. Mind you, I still track my points (just at home, can't afford meetings these days). My one caution is to remember to adjust points as you lose, and also that once you get close to your goal, you'll have to eat more - which is proving to be very hard for me after so long of eating so little!

Keep up your AWESOME exercise! :smash: You're going to be a real success story.

cheers

It's actually a common misconception that horseback riding is about sitting there and steering. I've been riding since I was five, have trained 3 yr old horses from the ground up, and teach lessons during the summer at times. The riding I do is dressage mainly, which is a highly strength based work out. You have to use all your muscle groups. The way you communicate with the horse is all through your seat, tensing the muscles, relaxing them, applying pressure here strongly, or more weak pressure elsewhere. You also need to work your core, especially when you get into jumping. You have to stay centered over the horse, move with their body.

You wouldn't know it by watching but once you get past basic level, equestrian is harder than you think. a freestyle dressage video for an example. You can't see the muscle work going on behind the scenes but trust me, each time you see a change in pace, a tight pirouette, etc. that rider is doing the work. Otherwise why would we call it a sport?

Now, I'm not trying to convince you it's HIIT or anything like running a few miles, but it definitely has it's benefits. When done with working a horse I can feel it in my calves, my back, my groin and thighs especially.

Hope that explains it somewhat.
Thank you all for your encouragement. <33

My exercise today:

Weight Machines (Urgh, I'd rather do free weights but since I no longer have a spotter I'm going to have to look into some exercises to do besides the obvious dumbbell routines. If anyone has some suggestions feel free to share)

2 sets of 12
Lowerback Extension: 95lbs
Ab Crunch: 75 lbs
Tricept Curls: 50 lbs
Bicept Curls: 35 lbs (this was hard, god my guns are weak. lol)
Lat pull down: 65 lbs
Compound Row: 80 lbs (hard as heck, shouldn't have gone so heavy)
Rear delt/Pec fly: 35lbs
Vertical chest: 35lbs
Hip Abduction: 65 lbs
Seated leg curl: 65 lbs
Leg extension: 65 lbs
Leg press: 120 lbs (then it was feeling really light so I did one set at 180lbs)

After I did the circuit I did the elliptical for a half hour, going at a slow pace. Around 3.5 - 4.0 on level 5. I keep the cardio less extreme on lifting days, giving myself a bit of a rest from the more intense cardio I do the other days.

I totally cheated my diet today, argh. I had pizza because I had nothing but yogurt in the morning and then at my meeting in the afternoon I was surrounded by junk. I should have had a heartier breakfast. Perhaps it would have gone better and I would have been better at that whole resistance thing. Hopefully I worked it off at the gym. Everyone's entitled to a bad day I guess. Just keep plugging away.

Breakfast: Yogurt
Brunch: 2 slices of sheet pizza
Lunch: Talapia fish in the skillet
Dinner: Taco with beef, lettece and cheese

Note to self: Drink more water, incorporate more veggies, and don't cheat. lol.

go girl!

Heey you can do it :D its just 2 pizza slices pff hehe I had my bad day yesterday but well everybody has some of those, I guess Its part of the changing the habit thing right? You'll be just fine.

Good luck and we'll be seeing around :)

Thank you for the encouragement. I realized that with my cheating I was only at 1139 cals.... so guess it was good I cheated... I need to eat!

HA HA I have just been skooled. .Thanks for the video! I actually know a girl who rides in competitions and it looks like so much fun. Horses are so beautiful! I hope you didn't take offense to my question at all it was an honest question. Like I said I have never been myself so I wouldn't know anything about it. hmmmm maybe I should give it a try one of these days.

I think you are doing amazing even if you did cheat and it sounds like your body was telling you uuhh hello feed me!!

No problem guys, I do what I can. I'm no expert, but you pick up things sometimes I guess.

Sat Jan 24th, 2009
12min HIIT - elliptical: 60 sec light lvl 2, 60 sec hard lvl 12
30min med intensity cardio - stationary bike: level 5
Moved boxes with my mom since we just moved houses

Breakfast: Talapia (made in the skillet with vinegar, pepper, & sea salt) & with about 1/8 cup of bread crumbs mixed in. Added Keto crumbs to the grocery list.
Workout
Lunch: Big salad with grilled chicken, green peppers, feta cheese, cucumber, & ranch dressing. Pita bread on the side.
Dinner: ~3.5 oz chicken (made in skillet with herbs, sea salt, & pepper), broccoli & mushrooms cooked with vinegar

Notes: My triceps/biceps were rather sore today from lifting yesterday but it was good, because I know I'm feeling my work out. My energy level was rather high. According to fitday I've only consumed 516 calories between lunch & breakfast, so I really have to get more food into my diet. After dinner I got it up to 1015 cals. My goal is to incorporate an extra meal in during the day. I just have to work on scheduling in the time to do it.

Also, I took measurements last night:
Neck - 14.2
Bicep (relaxed) - 15.3
Forearm - 11
Chest - 42 (hard to measure around my boobies!)
Waist - 43
Hips - 50
Thigh - 30
Calf - 18.5

God, that's awful. I hate measuring, but hey I guess it's a motivator and if the scale isn't showing my losses due to gaining muscle I'll have that to check up on.

Today is my day of rest, sort of. I just have horseback riding.

Breakfast: 3 eggs & a backed potato with 0-5 cal butter spray
Lunch: Small salad with grilled chicken, green peppers, feta cheese, cucumber, & 0 cal Caesar dressing. Pita bread on the side. (Couldn't finish the whole salad because I had breakfast too late due to wakingup late)
Dinner: Whole Wheat De Cecco Pasta w/ low cal sauce & parm. cheese

Total Cal Intake: ~ 1800
I feel like I ate way too much today. It's that time of the month and carbs were just calling I guess. At least I kept things wheat and high in fiber right? Hmm...

Notes: My groin and thighs hurt from riding. Karate this week is gana hurt. :[

....i love that you horseback ride...I used to when I was young.....:( I miss it...they are such beautiful creatures!!! :beating:!!!

...you are a WARRIOR with your workout knowledge....keep it up girlie!!! :D:! GREAT JOB ON THE LOSS!

Thanks Alta for the kind words. Yes, I just love riding. Something about horses is just so soothing. <3

Today: Mon Jan 26th 2009
Breakfast: WW cookie & like 3 baby carrots. Water.
Late Lunch: Subway Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap (Eh, I was out with a friend. It was the healthiest choice available at the mall...). Water
Dinner: Talapia with vinegar & breadcrumbs sprinkled on top. Water.

Workout:
30 mins on the elliptical (highly intense)
Practiced Karate for about 45 mins (light work)

Notes: I went to the chiropractor again today. My knees are doing a bit better, but I hope the cracking goes down some and the pain doing stairs and such decreases... Wish me luck.

Gained 1.5lbs
What... the... hell...
Either I've put on muscle from lifting, the carbs the night before added weight, menstration water weight effected it... or I'm doing something wrong? We'll see what happens tomorrow. I know it's a bad idea to weigh myself daily due to fluctuation, but I want it in my stats on fitday. Overall I'm not that worried. I'm sure it will go back down. -crosses fingers-

i ride my horse sometimes and i can promise... it is a totally serious lower body workout... using your thighs to hold on a bit better.

im totally loving your diary atm^^ you seem like such a great person.

Don't freak out too much about the weight. HAha. I always tell people to not freak out but I know I freak out as well. It's probably just water weight. Give it a day or two to leave. :)

PS I LOVE TILAPIA! I had some tonight. I used garlic powder and lemon. I think I'm going to try vinegar liek you do adn see how it tastes! MM YUM~
