Mr Slimmer's Diary

Hi

I'm a forum newbie from the UK aiming to lose about 15lbs, partly for medical reasons and partly for aesthetic ones.

I would really appreciate any accountability-feedback as I recommit myself to my weight loss objectives.

I plan to check in weekly.

So - week 1 - 25/10/2007: 212 lbs

Mr. Slimmer,

Welcome to the forum. :) You picked a great place here. I'm sure there are others who can give you some great feedback. I'm just starting out myself but I stopped in to give you my support.

Good luck to you. :)

Anne

what's your plan to drop those pounds?

the more info that you provide, the more effective feedback you will get back...

welcome to the site and enjoy your stay

Hi

I am in the UK too!

I checked out your newcomer introduction and can fully understand why you want to lose weight.

You may be able to find a challenge to keep you motivated. There are various challenges all kicking off now with it being the start of the month.

If you check out other people's diaries you will be able to see what they are doing. A lot of people post what they eat and what exercise they do. I do a lot of walking - but there are a lot of people who go to the gym.

Most people count calories - and there are websites that can help with that. There are people with a lot of knowledge that can help determine how many calories to limit yourself to for maximum effect and minimum pain - I know that I have seen Steve give that kind of advice. I know very little about that side of things.

I find that the more that I post and explore the forums - the more I get out of the support experience.

Good luck.

Best wishes
Margaret

Hi again and thanks for the replies.

Moving my weekly log in to a Sunday which is more practical.

In the nine days since my original post I have lost 2lbs :)

so now 210 lbs or in UK parlance, 15st exactly.

My methods: I am Weight Watchers pointing using the sheets and book I acquired during my attendance at classes. I find that easier than calorie counting. I am working to an allowance of 30 points a day.

Next week I am starting a detox diet following a book called 'The Liver Detox Plan' - two days on brown rice and spring water to start. It moves on to largely fruit and veg based dishes for a month.

Writing this I realise I need to get together a specific plan, and try harder to stick to my 30 points a day limit. Past experience has shown that works. I have been overshooting and that has hampered my plans.

Hmmm Is there somethng wrong with my scales or am I going so badly wrong?

214lbs now - +2 from where I started.

I think the problem is pretty obvious - too many points. Too many second helpings on days of boredom and/or stress.

Plus I need to cut out those little nibbles between meals. I don't think I need to change TOO much but clearly I need to do better.

Have acquired some Weight Watchers electronic scales - hopefully accurate.

I weighed in at 14st 11lb tonight - i.e. 207lbs. I assume then that my old mechanical scales were exaggerating a little, so I will take this as my new benchmark and aim to get down to 13st12lbs, or 194lbs.

Congrats on the loss. Make sure you are weighing at consistent times and clothing, etc. Flucuations can be due to a TON of things like waterweight, clothing, and whatnot.

Do you have any type of exercise plan? If you are looking to not only lose the weight, but keep it off, it needs to be a lifestyle change and not just a diet plan.

Look forward to seeing more posts!

Hi

Thanks for the replies. 206 lbs this week - so another pound off.

My exercise is walking plus yoga.

I might join the gym in the New Year though.

Merry Xmas

Mr Slimmer

Wild fluctuations this week - down to 201 lbs after Xmas because of illness and then a rebound rise back up to 207 lbs, so a net gain of +1 over Xmas. It could have been worse I guess.

An end to the shapeless drift of the holiday period beckons.

Now, whether to risk the humiliation of Man-at-Weight-Watchers?

Hi Mr Slimmer

Well done for not putting on much over Christmas. A lot of people will have put on more than you. As soon as everything is back on track that pound will be off. Some of that "illness low" will become a weight loss reality too.

There is no real reason why "man at WW" should be humiliating for you. OK - so there is a chance that you will be the only man there - but that doesnt mean that you should find it humiliating. I have worked in departments where I have been the only female. It may be worth you seeing if any of your friends fancy joining WW too (either female or male friends would mean that you had someone to walk in with on the first meeting). I have noticed that they often run special promotions where there is no joining fee not long after Christmas. They seem to be running one at the minute

If you are doing a lot of walking you may benefit from wearing a pedometer. I love mine and it encourages me to walk further. There are several challenges where I enter my pedometer stepcount. Doing that seems to encourage me to walk further too.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

208 lbs today. I think I'm still in Christmas mode a bit.

I am starting pointing again using WW sheets and am going to look into going to their meetings.

Also will check out the gym - I am stuck around the 206 to 208 lb mark.
