You´re looking happy; I like that. Also: you now look like someone who´s just on the heavy side, no medical terms needed.

My little brother probably makes me look even heavier. He's like 130lbs and all he eats are potato chips and popcorn. An unorthodox diet to say the least but I'm not really interested in losing weight that way. :D

He... doesn't look to be the healthiest of the litter. If you don't already, you'd soon beat him at running more than about 50m!

Garsh, you ladies really know how to make a guy feel better about himself

I'm beaming today. I just had a coworker I don't run into often say ,"Dang, you've lost a lot of weight, haven't you?"

It feels rewarding to be seen differently for all of the hard work. I hope to surprise some of my extended family for Thanksgiving and Christmas that I only get to see once a year. It's a big motivator to keep it up for the next few months.

Looking at your before and after- you have lost a lot of weight. Congrats. It is always nice to hear it from other people. Kind of gives you a boost. Keeps you motivated to continue to your goal. Great JOB!!

Nothing wrong with a bit of outside motivation :) I´m sure people who haven´t seen you since you started will be stunned!

So I may have gotten my first exercise related injury.

I explained it to my health nut boss and he said it sounds like a stress fracture of the metatarsal bone in my left foot. I guess I'm going to try and recover this weekend exercise wise. I'm traveling this weekend to visit family 4 hours away so I'll be in the car and taking it easy already.

I'm curious if any of you have experienced this and when it might be safe to return to regular exercise.

I would suggest you go to a Doctor to find out. It is hard to self diagnose something like that.

Agree with Cowboy; bosses shouldn't be too ready to diagnose the people who work for them. Hope you'll feel better soon!

PS: If he turns out to be right, stiff-soled shoes will probably be your friends for a while. And if it turns out you have to reduce your activity for a while you might do worse then using that time to try out some new, healthy recipes.

Not only am I not a doctor, I also don't play one on TV. I'd recommend asking a doctor, or at least a TV actor if your insurance covers it.

Good pic, Mowens, both the dude line-up and your new avatar. I can see good progress even from your hiking trip.

I'm not nearly as alarmed today as I was. I was having this pressure on top of my foot that made it feel like it needed to pop, so I skipped my afternoon walk and lounged on the couch instead yesterday.

I woke up today and the pressure is gone. I'm thinking I'll skip my morning walk and assess this afternoon to see if I feel like I can walk without any complications. I'll take it easy and won't walk too quickly.

The only reason I'm hesitant to go to a doctor right away is our health insurance is expensive and doesn't cover a lot so I can't really afford to go to the doctor. The price of our insurance a couple of years ago tripled for a family plan and removed a lot of the benefits we used to get. And it doubled again in January once my wife left her job and we couldn't cross-reference anymore.

Over-expensive health care sucks enormously; I´m sorry you have to worry about something which should be so simple in such a rich country. If the pain is gone completely and felt "like it needed to pop" it may have been one of your metatarsal bones being slightly off. Your foot muscles are adjusting to quite a bit of increased movement and decreased weight after all. If you want to help them do so you might try some of these exercises (with your kids, if you want them to feel accomplished; they´ll likely do a better job than you, though possibly not quite as good as the ballet dancer showing them). Be gentle though!

Thank you for the advice, LaMa.

I don't like to sound like I'm whining, but if you've ever heard anything about the U.S. health care system being terrible, it's all true. I have several friends with medical conditions who refuse to go to the doctor just because it would put their family into debt. We're still fighting with the insurance company over the birth of my younger daughter last November. If I had to choose between getting my foot looked at or feeding my children, they're always going to win out.

I didn't really consider losing weight as being a factor at all. I always automatically assumed that less pressure on the muscles, bones and joints would be all positive but I suppose the body does need time to catch up to all of the changes.

And you're right about the walking. I had gone from 7,000 steps a day to 10,000 and I was exercising 7 days a week. Maybe I ought to scale it back for a while. I may be getting ahead of what my body is ready to do.

I'll save that video and maybe stretch more before I start exercising. Admittedly, I wasn't doing any stretching or warming up before any of my walks before.

I hear your healthcare system sucks. Ours is a little better but still not perfect. It is sad that you guys don't have a decent medicare system. I understand completely why you wouldn't go to the doctor.

Rest can help too. Take it easy and see if that helps. Pushing it too soon can lead to injury for sure.

LaMa has the right idea. The exercises will help to strengthen your feet - that will help too. I know walking around barefoot at home helps too as I was doing it when I wanted to try barefoot running-lol. Key is not to do too much at once and give your feet time to adapt.
