Movie Actors

Action (rather kung fu/karate) movies are nowhere near as good as they were in years past. Nowadays all we have Jet Li and Jackie Chan, which use a lot more cables and special effects. The 80's and 90's brought us stars like Seagel, Van Damme, Norris, Cynthia Rothrock and Michael Dudikoff. These previous movies I think were much "better" in terms of the martial arts involved. What do you think? Remember Under Siege and Above the Law, every person that Seagel came into contact with had a broken arm or leg. Great for movies.
Anways, what do you think of movies today with movies of this previous era (those that are old enough to remember), and who was an actor/actress that you enjoyed to watch?
I Like Bruce Lee's Movies, he is a very good Martial artist and a actorr, nowadays they only use gungs, that sucks! No FIGHTING!
But his Movies was from the 60-70s

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Sammo Hung yet. Yes, the guy from Martial Law. That show wasn't all that great, but Sammo's early films were actually pretty good and showed how much of a great martial artists he really is.

In fact, I'd go as far as saying that Magnificent Butcher is better than Chan's Drunken Master. I love the Magnificent Butcher. It is such as great comedy kung fu movie.

Another film of his, although he is not the main character, is The Prodigal Son. Yes, it is highly choreographed, what more would you expect, but the kung-fu by Lam Ching Ying is simply superb (despite the fact that he plays a completely camp actor ...)

Sammo Hung is more of a director/producer these days, but I saw his recent movie about triads (Fatal Move), it was pretty gory... LOTS of blood and decapitation. He had one fight in the end, using a long metal pipe as a staff against a sword. He also had a war movie about 2 months ago called Three Kingdoms, which I will watch this weekend :)

Donnie Yen's new movie IP MAN is the BEST kung fu flick I've seen in many years. It's about the story of the famous master Ip Man, who was Bruce Lee's first teacher. Donnie Yen was amazing in it, as usual. The guy is probably the most versatile martial arts actor in the world. Most martial arts actors bring their own style to the screen, but Yen studies every style in depth and then adapts it to the big screen. He studied MMA for 2 movies (SPL, and Flashpoint) and now Wing Chun (which he never studied before) for Ip Man, as well as several classic wushu battles with Jet Li.

Highly recommended viewing :)

They are filming Ong Bak 2 at the moment but he hasn't done anything for a while except at TV commercial for a car company

I saw the trailer for Ong Bak 2 when I went to see Ip Man. Looks BADASS! It's more of a prequel to the original story, but the fighting is more "wushu"-ized. But still exciting nonetheless. Can't wait to see it next week!

Yuan Woo Ping is the action director behind many of the famous Hong Kong and Chinese actors, you might want to check your favourite movies and see the fight choreographer and action director to see who else is making your favourite star into a star.

The new movie of 2009 is True Legend and I am working in it, Yuan Woo Ping is directing and action directing, he is amazing to work with, check his IMDB credits.

Look out for the movie towards the end of the year, worldwide cinema release

:)

Glad to see you posting again, Conan.

Hope things are going well, big fella! :)

Best regards,

Chillen

You are quite right, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, is more of a drama, it is no way of a genuine action movie. Chou ren fat is not an action star, neither is Chang zi yi.
It doesn't mean it is not a good movie, but no way even near an action movie.
If you watched Shao Lin Temple by Jet Li, IP Man by Donnie Yen, you know what I mean?
