Motivation to change

Hi there!
I joined this board in hopes that being surrounded by people with similar goals will keep me on track in my goals!

Currently, I'm about 5'5 1/2 and weigh 140lbs, and hoping to loose 10 lbs over the next 4-5 months. Last school year, I exercised 3-4 times a day, 40 minutes on the elliptical, and ~15 minutes on weights. Sad to say, once my summer job began, I slacked off for about...3 months and I'm not sure if I gained weight or not because the number on the scale didn't budge, but I feel like my pants are beginning to feel tight. I only re-started my exercise regime near beginning of August [40 min running/yoga 3-4 times a week]...and hopefully that'll keep the weight gain in check until I'm fit enough again to go back to my 1 hour exercises.

The thing is, exercising isn't the problem, it's my eating habits that's hindering my efforts. I usually eat when I'm bored, but sometimes I'm studying and all I can think about is how hungry I am. I'm not the type to deprive myself either, and I always eat breakfast, lots of vegetables and protein...I just eat too much. I count the calories for my breakfasts, since I tend to eat most in the morning, and it ranged from 400 - 700 kcal...which is quite a big range, I think. And it's not like I eat less for lunch and dinner either, so at the end of the day, the calorie count is wayy higher than what I need to loose weight. I can distract myself from the hunger for a little while, but then the stress becomes too much and I cave.

But anyway, I think I've talked enough about myself for now! Don't want to scare people away :p
Nice to meet all of you!

Hi and welcome! :)

It's good that you know what your problem area is with the weight - it makes it easier to be able to fix it.

I don't know if this would work for you, but one thing that helps me is that I always eat the same thing for breakfast (at least during the week - on the weekends I change up a bit). I always have either greek or homemade yogurt and blueberries (frozen) and coffee for breakfast. In the winter I might change that up and have oats and blueberries and honey for breakfast, but either way - it's the same thing every morning. That way I know exactly what I'm getting every morning and it doesn't mess me up for the rest of the day.

Also, make sure that whatever snack you have includes some form of protein and maybe some kind of healthy fat. Protein will help keep you feeling full for longer and so will fat. For example, I might have peanut butter on an apple, or an avocado with some veggies, or something like that.

Good luck to you!
