Most people have no real interest in working out

Most people look at working out as a chore and a bore.
Most people think they do not have time to workout.
Most people do not really think there is any urgency to workout.
Most people think if they workout they need a partner or they won't workout
Most people are intimidated by the going to the gym experience
Most people can't see themselves working out more than 3 times a week.
Most people would rather sit and eat than go to the gym
Most people can think of three quick excuses to not work out.

I know these all sound like sweeping generalizations - But, how far off am I?

I think if you took the time to read this you are not like MOST PEOPLE.

You are not far off at all. Most people are fat and lazy. Period. Go anywhere: the mall, a restaurant, the beach, an amusement park, the office, whatever. Take a good look at the first 10 or 20 people you see. How many look 'fit'? The ratio is usually about 1 in 10. Pretty damn sad.

I see it too. I look around and see so many people out of shape, over weight and unhealthy and I can't help but wonder what gets in people's way of taking care of themselves. I don't always realize it, but I feel so lucky to have such a fit lifestyle when it comes to my body.

It's funny. I'll hear people talking about me saying "he can probably eat anything he wants" or "he must have a real fast metabolism". No, I watch what I eat and bust my ass at the gym a minimum of 6 days a week.

Then there are the people at a cookout or in a restaurant that will tell me "Look at you, you can eat this XXXX or you can have a second plate, so why not try it" Ummm...the reason I do look like this is because I don't eat garbage, and I do watch my portions.

Its all about where you place your value when it comes to health. If you build a clear preference in valueing not just how something tastes and textures on the tounge but how it sits in your system and how it effects how you feel in yourself then it becomes pretty easy to enjoy consuming in a wholesome way. People don't realize there are more criterias to food appreciation than just taste and texture.

Wow, you sound like me only more articulate.

I know we are preaching to the choir but unfortunately it is a very small choir. I am pretty much a fitness health nut. Man, it is lonely out here. People it so badly it scares me. The way the avoid working out or getting on a workout program amazes me.

In the last three and half years I have not missed a day of doing a least one sixty minute ( 1,145 days ) cardiovascular workout. When I do my workout I sweat profusely and I give it it all I have.

I have cut my intake of all fatty foods to zero. In the last year or so I have decided on eating only fruits, vegetables and whole grains. I do not drink. I only drink seltzer and orange juice.

I am focused on my next workout right after I finish my workout.

Folks, it is all mental. How excited are you about getting and staying in shape?

You folks sound like people that try to promote good health by your own actions but as what happens to most of us, your advice falls on deaf ears.

Believe me, I feel your frustration. The good news is, the fact that your hitting deaf ears has not diminished your enthusiasm.

I hope yours and our message gets on there and most people start living a more healthy lifestyle.

If they only knew how great this feels!

Youn sound hardcore about exercise. I know what you mean about deaf ears. However, we cant impose our values on others. It s not that they don't hear us, its more likely that they have blocks and restrictions within that gets in their way. I relate to this notion because I've myself had experienced areas i know i need to priorities in life and though it seemed others around me got it and could explain it to me, I still didn't get it enough to put it into action. Its the the same for fitness. Whats important is the level of value that can only be provided by the individual. We can give tips that support those willing to make that change in themselves though.

This is very true. People are always saying to me, "oh you work out all the time, you can eat whatever you want," when trying to convince me to eat junk food with them. Yeah, my high activity level means I can consume more than the average woman my size, but why would I want to fill up on empty calories that won't give me energy or nutrients? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the occasional treat, but on a daily basis I feel much better when I eat healthy clean food. I've actually reached a point where if someone offered me a bag of chips or an apple for a snack, I'd happily choose the apple.

yeah, i'm the same. I've turned off of chips and snack biscuits, especially fiizzy drinks these days. Once in a few months i get a craving for a can of coke but by the end of it i always find myself regreting it. I'm into my green teas these days.

^ Do you train while sick? Do you not consume meat, eggs or dairy?

Knock on wood - I have only been sick once. It was a month after my first year. I still crawled out of bed for two days and worked out for sixty minutes Since then I have not gotten sick. It was right after that when I started eliminating a lot of foods like chicken and any chips and bread. Now its just
fruits vegetables and whole grains. No meat, eggs or diary.

great point!

The one thing that really drove home my believe in that was when I was watching a movie that Robert Deniro was in and I thought of all the weight changes he had gone through to fit his movie characters. I just said if he could do it so can I. Then, I asked which character do I want to play? I chose a character in great physical shape!

This made me laugh, because I get this all the time and it frustrates the hell out of me. I am a woman, and the women are the best at this because they are always looking for 'advice'.

There is a dialogue with random women at work that goes something like this:

"How do you do that?"
"What?"
"Have such a flat stomach?"
"Well, I workout six days a week, and I eat healthy small meals six times a day."
"oh "

Like I was going to say I eat what I want and take a magic pill or something, and hearing me say the I eat right and workout was so disappointing.

Crazy right!?

That's a fun kind of motivation, when I do my martial arts I occasionally like to visualize myself as a taken character, depending on the style that day. :)

Aguaro, I mostly see myself as Jin Kazama, I sometimes like to feel like Hwoarang, Hehachi and Eddy(when i do capoeira :D), but Jin comes up the most.
