We need windscreen wipers on our glasses!
Your determination to get fitter & your commitment to exercise is showing in very positive ways. I like how you are being very encouraging & supportive to newbies in the forum. It really can make a lot of difference, especially when you first start out.
Yay for courteous drivers!

Wipers would be amazing but if they’re anything like my car wipers I wouldn’t change them until they’re rock hard and do absolutely nothing but scratch the lenses! :)

Thanks Cate. Means a lot.
Starting is the hardest thing to do and we all need a little assistance. The most important thing is to be in a good headspace when starting a new project/journey. If not it won’t work. I hate the feeling of knowing someone failed at something or is unhappy and I could have done something to help but chose not to.

Broke my hoodoo today. 89.1. I’ve been hovering around 90 for the last couple of weeks. I’ll go down to 89.8 or so then the next day back to 90.3 or so; never holding <90 for more than a day. This morning I’m almost <89.

While weight is just a number on a scale to me it’s motivating to see it decline so still woooohoooo!

Well I was going to take a short ride today but decided to push it.

Not a longer ride; just my usual but in a lower gear at much higher cadence. Boy do my calves hurt. Talk about feeling the burn. Averaged around 1km/h more than usual but my legs were spinning much faster. Essentially a 2 hour spin class!

I think I’ll sleep well tonight.

Ok so today I bought a weights bench.

I’ve been using dumbbells and resistance bands for years but since I want to work on my back and chest muscles that have gone missing over the years it’s easier with a bench press. I do have a 24 hour gym nearby that is only $13 AUD a week so I thought about going there instead but I don’t like the gym culture these days. I was once a regular gym goer but it just doesn’t appeal to me anymore.

I'm not a fan of the gym either - it sounds like you've got a good system lined up!

Op shops. Just saying. There's always lots of skinny clothes, often brand new.
I actually volunteer at an op shop every weekend. We don’t get much in the way of men’s clothes and the stuff we get is usually 2-4XL size other stores get more though.

Going to be a very short ride tonight. My bike is going in for a service. It’s an 8 km ride there (going the long way) and a 3km walk home. I MIGHT jog it home. I say might because I HATE jogging. It’s just very boring.

Just got back from dropping the bike off for the service. Went the very long way around. Turned a 7.4km round trip into a 17.2km trip one way and a 3.7km walk back!

I SHOULD have the bike back tomorrow night but it may not be ready until Saturday so I might not be able to go for a ride tomorrow. I might have to sort something else out.

I’ve mentioned it a couple of times on this thread and elsewhere that I’m really not trying to achieve anything with my fitness. I’m just getting back to exercise and fitness/weight loss is coming.

It dawned on me on my walk back that I’ve achieved a LOT of gains in the last 6 months. I used to feel it in my legs after walking 8kms on mostly flat roads. Now I happily hike 8kms on a hard hike up and down mount lofty once weekly, do 30 mins or so of resistance training 7days a week and cycle 40kms 7 days a week and don’t really feel it that much at all. I have lost 27kg, gone from a 2XL shirt size to a M, a 107 pant size to a loose 92 and 43.6 BMI to 32.3 (I put very little care factor into BMI as I’ve always been high. Even when I was very very fit I was still very “overweight” according to the BMI charts as I have high muscle mass).

I’ve still got a few months to go of solid exercise before I think I’ll start slowing down but I’m well on my way. Essentially now I’m in the best shape I have been in since I was a brickies labourer at 17 years old.

Not time to celebrate just yet but I’m feeling good about it.

I never know how to react when people ask about my weight at work. I don’t talk about personal stuff at all really. I’ve always seen it as unprofessional behaviour but I was at a different office today; one I haven’t visited in a couple of months and was asked by five or six people separately what I had been doing or how much I’d lost. Apparently it’s very noticeable.

I just make a joke and say I’ve not lost anything or I’m running marathon in the 2020 Olympics.

They say your not a true cyclist until you’ve blown up. Well I guess I can consider myself a true cyclist now.

About 30km in I regretted my dinner; a handful of left over broccoli and a handful of left over cauliflower. I completely ran out of puff. Somehow I managed another lap to total 45km but boy am I going to feel it at work in the morning!

Mainly writing this for myself but I welcome opinions/feedback.

18 months ago I was 116kg. Today I weighed in at 89. In the first 14 months I lost 6kg. The rest has come off in the last 4 since I reignited my passion for training.

I started out walking every night around the block. Soon the block got bigger, I bought a stationary bike and started paying attention to what I eat; not dieting just eating better and drinking more water then I brought my resistance bands out of retirement, then I upgraded my resistance bands then I started hiking mount lofty.

Fast forward a couple of months and I upgraded my bike and started riding that around the streets. It started off just slow and 7-10km a night. Now I’m doing 20-40km a night at an average 24km/h.

I don’t really have an end goal. I don’t care about weight or bmi or anything like that. Truth be told I’m not actually trying to lose weight per se. I’m just enjoying being active again and in order to be as active as I want I guess I’m going to lose weight.

At any rate as it stands right now cycling is my primary form of exercise with resistance bands and hiking mount lofty on the weekends my secondary and tertiary forms.

I started a thread on cycling here but I figured it really belongs here instead.

This is the thread
https://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/cycling-anyone.103434/

From today on however, I will be updating this diary, not that older thread.
Great self-motivation! Awesome. don´t forget to recover that is essential and also take a good look at your nutrition. I found that interesting article that might support you on your journey. Good luck!

Just shy of 54km tonight.

It’s amazing how well the bike rides when it’s just been serviced. My ankles of all things got a bit sore tonight but that’s it really.

FEELING GOOOOOOOD!
