Coming Clean--kind of

Well I am sick of trying to dance around topics in my life so I will come clean, the only reason I didnt before is because if someone happens to be on here that knows me IRL they will surely know who I am now LOL. I have a disease cystic fibrosis, it mainly affects my lungs. It causes me to get serious lung infections that require high dose IV antibiotics that honestly just make me sick even though in the end they are what is making me better. Most people with CF have trouble gaining weight, they are what is called pancreatic insufficient (think of taking a pill that makes you not absorb fat but they have to battle this all the time and eat about double calories of a normal person) so if anyone out there is reading this and knows what CF is I am not cheating and easily loosing weight LOL, I am pancreatic sufficient (as can be told by my weight).

Anyway I am on IV's right now and very sick to my stomach the past few days accounting for my hard time getting in enough calories because I am so nauseous, hopefuly it will let up soon. My metabolism may also be a bit harder right now because my body is figting an infection. Hopefully I do not have trouble maintaining this loss once I am back up to par (hopefully mid next week). This is also why I have been short on excercise, some days I just cant do it, I am too tired.

that is all in my world

if you want to know more about CF ask away I am not shy AT ALL and I like to educate others or you can visit

ta ta for now

I would do what feels right for you. The challenge is for fun and motivation, is by no means a guideline to follow. If you are not hungry and have already consumed a healthy amount of calories, I woulndt eat it for what boils down to 1 pt in the challenge, unless you really wanted it.

Great job on your loss! I see how well you have done in that other challenge!

Thanks, I decided to have the mini candy bars last night, it was real torture :smilielol5:! Considering the scale was still -2.5lbs from last week I dont feel bad at all! PLus it got me to 1801/1900 calories LOL, whew!

I feel like a real looser because I excercised the least of my team of 3 red ladies and now we made a calculation error and we are 4minutes30seconds short of our goal, ugh ugh :banghead:ugh. I have to do better htis week!

well week 1 Memorial day challenge synopsis

journaled food 7 days=7pts
within caloric range 5 days (1low/1high)=5pts
excercised 250minutes=5pts
lost 3lbs=5pts

All right

I journaled sunday but did not coutn calories since I wasnt paying attention to serving size on one major item and I know I HAD to be way over calories. Not bad all in all. I am not used to having weigh day on monday, I almost forgot, luckily I wanted to see what damage I had done during the weekend.

Nicole, I have now read in depth the link you posted. I must say I was quite ignorant before. It's just ever so amazing for me when I face people like you fighting against the odds and pulling themselves together all the time. Yes, it does make feel as I am a lazy snot but it also inspires me.

Do you often feen uncomfortable or it happens just time to time? Do you get adequate treatment? I don't like being nosy but I am genuinly interested so just share as much (or as little) as you want. :)

You are a brave, little chick!

:seeya:

Yu-ah we each have our crosses to bear and this is mine :patriot: it is not like I am the only one with struggles so I do not like to burden others or sing a :nopity:song! Those IRL know I am not like that but I feared there was no way to mention it in writing without it coming across as such. I looked up information on bulgaria and no wonder you have never heard of it, it is estimated that there are less than 100 people in your country with CF compared to 30,000 here in the US (and many here dont know what it is).

Here is some info for you (or anyone). Most children are diagnosed within first 2 years of life, most right away with screenign and testing now, I was the oddball and did not get diagnosed until I was 21 because my case is not as severe as many it was often misdiagnosed. I like to educate people because later they remmeber me and come to me when they hear something or unfortunately when someone in their family ends up having achild with the disease. I have met many wonderful poeple by being open about my disease.

As for how I do. I do not have the digestive related issues mentioned and I gain weight etc normally. I do have borderline diabetes and have had my gallbladder out. For the lungs I have these bouts requiring IV antibiotics about once a year, usually in feb/mar, though this one has been my worst yet they are usually resolved fairly quickly. I have normal lung functions:biggrinjester: and overall am very fortunate.

If you have any otehr questiosn be sure to ask!

What Is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:

clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

Symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis

People with CF can have a variety of symptoms, including:

very salty-tasting skin;
persistent coughing, at times with phlegm;
frequent lung infections;
wheezing or shortness of breath;
poor growth/weight gain in spite of a good appetite; and
frequent greasy, bulky stools or difficulty in bowel movements.
Statistics

About 1,000 new cases of cystic fibrosis are diagnosed each year.
More than 70% of patients are diagnosed by age two.
More than 40% of the CF patient population is age 18 or older.
In 2006, the predicted median age of survival was 37 years.

Well since one challenge is weighed on friday and the other on mondays and my weekly log gets buried back behind posts maybe I will just post each day like I see others doing.

Monday--------1,980-------------341---------45------------73--------75=18=1980-1800-270=-90

I have a feeling my calories were not actually in the negative today, I was sleeping most of the day, also to my demise is that I normally cook veyr healthy dinners and right now that is not happening so if it cant be microwaved or picked up we arent eating it :angelsad2: since hubbby cant cook. Back to docs tomorrow, all will hopefully test well and I will be done with these wretched meds:cuss: and back to myself soon!

Hi Nicole

I am sorry to read that you have CF to contend with. It sounds like it can be quite debilitating at times. No wonder you have been feeling down if you have been ill and needing such strong medication.

Obviously the ideal long term solution (apart from a cure) is for your hubby to learn to cook and become great at putting together nutritious meals for you all. After all - you will probably need sound nutrition most when you are feeling ill.

If that is unlikely - then I suppose you will be stocking up on nutritionally decent food that can be prepared very easily.

I am a big fan of tins of baked beans. We eat them all the time because they are very good for reducing cholesterol - and hubby is inclined towards high cholesterol. We actually try and each have a tin of baked beans three times a week - but we normally only manage two. Baked beans come in tins so can last in the cupboard for ages, you can heat them in the microwave very easily, they are great for cholesterol, high fibre, high protein and very cheap.

I hope that you are feeling better soon and am sure that will help to raise your spirits.

Thanks for posting the Self Happy Weight calculator link. I worked through that and it came up with a weight within two pounds of my goal weight - so I was quite pleased about that. It suggests that I am pitching things at about the right level.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Margaret-you are such a dear, thanks for stopping by. It can be difficult to keep your spirits up. Normally I always vaccuum seal our leftovers so days when I am not feeling well we have our own healthy/nutritious microwave dinners. We did not have a big chest freezer for about 6 month so I stopped that and this was what happened. We got another freezer this weekend so that will be all fixed for next time. I would LOVE to get hubby to cook but it is one thing he absolutely refuses to do. If I want to hide a present from him I hide it in the kitchen cupboards LOL! Before I met him he ate either A-cereal or B-frozen pizza AHhhh

I am glad you liked the healthy weight calculator and how clever you are to pick a weight that is very reasonable, I think we tend to shoot a bit too low which is why I like that calculator.

Nicole, you are so right that we all have our crosses to bear. The point is that many people moan all the time (mememe) and you don't! This is what surprises me. :) Certainly you have quite a good luck to have a nice, little kiddo and a loving husband (despite his lack of cooking skills :smilielol5:). So life is mixture if good and bad always, always...

I have checked the "happy weight" myself. It is 133.8 which is about 4 pounds below my original goal. Interesting. I will aim for it as it is in my "healthy range" I set up already. However I must tell you guys BMI 21 is very lean for all sizes and frames! I suppose I never want to see myself at BMI 19. I am not a fan of sticking out bones!

By the way talking about microwaves - is it only me who has heard that they are bad for health? In England no one seems to have ever beeen told so. I should say they are BAD for my wireless connection. It dies anytime the macrowave is on. I refuse to cook my meals in it and our electricity bill is in the skies. Am I just brain washed that the microwave is bad? I wonder how much truth there is in it...

Tuesday-----2017--------264------53------------133----75=2017-1800-567=-367

todays calories are very rough estimate because I partook in a brownie that was not marked with calorie info so I tried to assume the worst I possibly could which weighed it in at 470calories which I think is high but rather be conservative and we had steak tonight and again I dont know how much so I put in double what it defaulted to for a serving size, I should invest in one of those scales for my meat.

workout was good, feeling much better, yahoo!

Tuesday-----2,034-------240------83------96----75=2034-1800-593=-359

120minutes excercise :smash: 30min gym am 15min walk work 55min walk home then 20min jog dogs

well I tried my weird concoction for the roadblock and it was good! Hubby even said it wasnt bad at all and would be a good winter food--even if there wasnt any meat, yes that point was not missed on him and even though I chopped onions really small he could still tell :svengo:! the way I made it (perhaps too much butter) and with 5 servings per pot it was 370 cal 17g fat 49g carb 8g protein.

I have been seeing a good weight all week, shall see how tomorrow goes now that I am eating normally again.

Monday-----2,353-------362------52------135----90=2353-1800-558=-5

Yikes, I was sooo hungry today, this evening especially. Barely etched out a negative LOL and I am not 100% sure I can go to bed without a snack:ack2:! I was doing really well all day but then I caved when I got home before dinner and had a junky snack that was around 500 calories and I didnt even realize how bad it was, I should have had that for dinner (I am going to check the calories on it to make sure sparks is right). ah well live and learn.

Of course it is a PMS day. I am one lucky ones who nurse and have the monthly :reddevil: and I am someone who took birth control just to keep her at bay (that doesnt work when nursing--well not for me) and I have such weird cycles. On day ~20 or so I get sooo crabby and cant sleep and generally have a day or so after that where I am ravenous then nothing for about 5 days then one day where I am exhausted then :reddevil: shows up that night. I am VERY predictable even if the # days arent always the same.

Tuesday-----1957-------291------60------82----60=1957-1800-251=-93

When I weight train I really dont know how many calories I am burning, still need to replace HR monitor battery. Also cutting back on nursing so if this continues (hopefully) then I will need to remind myself to eat less! Up 2.5lbs from last friday but between getting over being ill and hitting a rough patch on my eating it is not surprising.

well I have to be honest, yesterday, thursday I was at around 2500-3000 calories YIKES, I forced myself to enter it into sparks but I wasnt keeping exact tabs on things and it came to 2500 so I imagine a bit more (calorie amnesia you know) AND about 1200 of that came from a trip to KRISPY KREME AHHHH.

ok so I have been feeling so run down since being ill and I still have some lingering issues with digestion and sleep so Ihave been eating like crap, ESPECIALLY for me, my friend was like YOU want to go get doughnuts. So anyway my point is today I am breaking that cycle I am doing whole hog healthy eating this week almost exclusively unprocessed foods this is the last week of my amazing race competition AND my "friend' will be here any day so its the perfect time. Weighing in at 148 today and scale said 144.5 last week so I plan to be down to 144 by next week or if I am really good and its not down then I am ok but either way I am trying HARD this week.

I will check back tonight

ps for my fruits veggies yesrteday I BARELY scraped it out with a banana then 1/2 my daughters (big ones so prob 2 servings) then apple at work then before bed I had an apple not even thinking about it but it saved me and I had some spinach in my eggs and then some lettuce and tomato at lunch so all in all I think I scraped out 4 servings YIKES.

Saturday-----2047-------282------58------123----0=2047-1800=247

well I think I still deserve a :Angel_anim: even though technically I am over calories today however I dont buy it because I cleaned my house like a madwoman for 10 hours today! IT was so far behind plus i did extra cleaning and TONS organizings so gold star for me today. I was so so so hungry today. I ate 100% healthful unprocessed foods no junk at all, I just was hungry all day, hubby had ice cream tonight and I mixed up some frozen blueberries with kefir (a yogurt drink) in blender and had that as again I was s-t-a-r-v-i-n-g!

PLUS I am usually really good during week and rotten on weekend and today I did well, tomorrow is a dinner party and they alwasy have horridly bad for you foods so we shall see how that goes I dont plan to be hard on myself just watch portion sizes.

well the party went fairly well, no real way to count calories today, I didnt do the best at the party but I didnt eat much today besides that. Overall not too happy with myself but nothing devastating.

happy to see a downward trend in the scale this morning, back towards my new (pre-pms) low.

ashamedly have not excercised fri-sun, planned to today but had to leave too early today and didnt get home until late, I also dont know what sort luck I have but I have caught a bug so a bit of a temp and under weather nothing too bad though--no excuse really as excercise could have helped.

tomorrows another day and I have to weigh in for memorial day challenge, expecting about even result but I cant remmeber my monday weight last week since I really keep track on friday---off to check.

monday went fairly well I did well until I had a setback with my healht and then I decided to allow myself a bowl of ice cream for comfort, it wasnt even that good, and definately wasnt worth it. I am also unable to excercise right now so all plans losing the most weight htis week went out the window. I need to focus on what I can control right now and not let myself get out of control on at least those items. Ugh, bad luck so far this year in the health realm.
