Hi everyone!!!!!!! I am a stay at home mom. I have 2 kids, and their 4yrs and 2yrs old. I'm having troubles finding someone to help with motivation on even where I should start to loss weight. I know obviously stop drinking carboninated drinks.. like dr.pepper or beer. And eating more fruits and vegetables. But I want to loss at least 30lbs. My doctor told me its not healthy to loss more then 2lbs a week. If you loss to much to fast. You'll do the yo-yo affect. So I figure if i loss that 30lbs by june that would be a reasonable goal.... I don't know. Please help me. I need ideas. And lots of support!!!!!!!!

hi!

thanks for replying to my thread, thought id come visit yours! i wana loose about 26lbs by june and to be honest i dont know how to do it! i dont know if to just eat fruit and veg, or to go high protein. problem with me is i drink a lot of milk so somehow i need to kick that habbit. its good you have a good doc to talk to. what exercise do you like doing?

Hey! I am working on losing weight for my wedding and started a blog (http://sneakingintoshape.blogspot.com/) to try to motivate myself and others! You should check it out and feel free to comment or follow me on Twitter and we can try to motivate eachother! @sneakintoshape

Hey Tink,

Well that's a very reasonable goal. My grandma told me if i'm serious about lossing weight. To be reasonable about my goals. Or i'll get overwhelmed and quit. Milk is good for you, you shouldn't quit it. But are you drinking homogenized, 2%,1% or skimmed. And how much a day..... The exercises i'm trying right now are tummy crunches and twists. They don't hurt my knee to bad then, but irritates my hips more. A rowing machine too. But that hurts my knee and hips alot. During the spring to fall I walk. Alot.

But my down fall lately is beer, and dr. pepper. I can drink a 2L of pop a day. And beer about every week to 2 weeks. I'm stopping the beer after this weekend. I'm only drinking this weekend, cause its my first full night off from my 2 kids in a year.I won't go high protein if I was you. Those kinds of diets aren't good, they work great for getting rid of it fast. But you get it all back and then some. My Aunty learnt that, she was on the atkins diet..... High protien no carbs. She lost her weight sooooo fast. But she gained back double when she stopped it. I'm only taking out all sugars, and carbinated drinks. Adding in green tea daily, and more water. Less portions of food, but still balanced. Your body need certain nutrients and minerals from everything you eat. If you take away even one of those you will go threw withdrawls. And feel hungry allllll the time.......

Hey there,

so for support I found a buddy is great, my sister and I are doing our journey together and we then started a blog we are then accountable to anyone who reads it and knows was we are doing (our friends and families know what we look like in minimal clothing and now we know we HAVE to change). We are both moms, my daughter is 2, my sister has a 5 year old and a 2 year old. She actually just posted a blog about exercising with the kids so she could get her work out in.

My suggestions (these are all things that I have done and I am down 50lbs in less than a year)

1. Water. Drink lots of water. There is a formal take your weight, divide by 2 and that is how many ounces of water you should drink a day. Seems like a lot, but our bodies do not need anything besides water for liquids.

2. Cut out soda, tea, coffee etc. If you HAVE to have something caffeinated limit it to one cup of organic coffee a day. Soda is the worse, have you ever seen that video that shows how many tablespoons of sugar is in one can of soda? It is a waste of calories! I used to drink a 2 liters or more of soda a day (mt dew and dr. pepper are my poison). I have been soda free for 7 months now and it feels great. I no longer crave it, I crave water!

To answer your question about milk, if you need to drink it go for 1% it does not have that much more fat/calories than the fat free but has way more vitamins in it. I took a class through WIC that was all about milk and which one to drink. By the end of the hour class it was clear that 1% is the healthiest choice when it comes to milk.

When I made all my diet changes (I'm Paleo as much as possible) I was SO HUNGRY, without all the fillers and such I felt like I was not eating enough. I definitely eat more food now than I ever have but it is healthier choices, and still less calories. I am 1 day away from completing the PaleoCleanse for the second time (I did it once last year) and it is no gluten, soy, dairy, sugar, preservatives, and no processed foods. It just cleans your body out. It take 28 days to get things like gluten and sugar out of your system. Once they are out, you no longer crave them. Its great, I seriously can be right in front of a chocolate cake and have no desire to eat it.

The one big thing I keep thinking about is my daughter, what she sees me eat and drink, she will want to eat and drink. To her just having water (she has NEVER had juice!) is normal. Milk is a treat and is so sweet to her. Our desserts are fruits (frozen grapes are a favorite). I love that I am not only making healthy choices for me, but teaching her how to make healthy choices of her own. Last night at dinner my sister and I went to a local restaurant that is all organic. I read all the options to my daughter (choices are BIG right now with the 2's) She had options of sandwiches, grilled cheese, chili, quesadilla, and grilled chicken. She asked for the grilled chicken. I made SURE she wanted it "Are you sure you don't want a grilled cheese?", nope she wanted the grilled chicken, and for sides she picked broccoli and brown rice. I don't think as a kid I ever would have passed up french fries and a grilled cheese.

Good luck! You can do it. =)

Is it full sugar dr pepper you drink?I imagine if you cut them out you would see a difference! Or though I wouldnt really recomend diet sodas either as I got addicted to artificial sweetners a few years ago, it wasn't good! could you think of something to replace these drinks, like fizzy water with fresh orange squeezed in. I have stopped drinking fizzy drinks but when i drank them it was just the fizzy sensation that I wanted. For me with the milk it's not good to drink the amount that I do which is a lot, because of the amount of sugar ( which i think is natural but its 5g ish per 100ml ) I drink it it tea ( and i drink a lot of tea!) and i drink it warmed up,I need to try and switch to soya milk which has less carbs.

yeh i thought i would be reasonable with my goal, for reasons that you have said and i have spent so long being overweight, that its way healthier to loose that amount and maintain it rather than either staying as i am, or trying to loose a huge amount and then piling it back on!

i have read that caffiene is bad as when you have the drop from it, this causes you to crave food to raise blood sugar levels, unless you reach for another cup! I always have decaf tea and coffee and I dont miss caffiene

Dr. Pepper is probably pure sugar..... just looked it up. OMG. 1 can just one can of dr pepper has 10 tsps of sugar. And I was drinkinggggg about 3 to 4 can's a day of it............. holy jumping jellybeans. Ok Tink, very good question!!!! LOL. OUch. Milk isn't really filled with alot of sugars, its got alot more fat's in it. I use to drink Homogenized, which is about 3% I think. Holy did I start to gain weight...... I started to drink 1%. And didn't lose weight but didn't gain more. You didn't say what type, or exactly home much you drink...... just alot.lol. My caffiene, is going to be a very hard thing for me to get rid of. I tried not drinking it one day..... and it got ugggggly. lol I couldn't keep my eyes open. My kids are under 4 soooo no one watching them with eyes wide open, not good. But I am removing my coffee whitner and sugar from it slowly. I usually use 2 heaping tsps of both coffee whitner and sugar in it.... started today. with leveled tsps. 2 each i'll do that for a week and then go to 1 1/2..... sugar is like crack. At least I think sooooo. If I go cold turkey i'll get more cravings. And i'm not drinking pop sooooo lots of sugar gone there. Its a start for me...........

Hey Soon to be Light Mama 22 - I have 3 kids and and when I hit 40 I was diagnosed with hashimotos hypothyroiditis which basically means that my body is attacking my thyroid. Thus my metabolism was slowing way down. In 2008, I found myself 40 pounds overweight and depressed. We had planned a trip to Italy that year and I was determined to lose the weight before then. Here is what I did: Bought myself a rebounder (mini-tramp) and hand weights and did a light jog while moving my arms with the weights for 20 minutes per day 5 days/week. I can't begin to explain all of the health benefits from rebounding. Do some research on this and you will be amazed. The best part is that I could do this in my family room in my bathrobe and catch up on my favorite DVRd shows at the same time. I would try to imagine my body after shedding the pounds and it kept me going.

Since I've tried all of the diets out there at some point (especially after pregnancies when I had lots of weight to lose) I knew quite a bit about what worked and what didn't. To make things simple I decided to try a gluten free diet (recommended for those with autoimmune disorders such as mine) and just try to eat as healthy as possible. I don't mean to be condescending but don't even think you will be able to lose weight if you continue to drink beer and pop. (regular or diet) - not possible. Even diet pop has chemicals that make your body hold onto the fat. You really should only be drinking water, tea, or organic coffee. You absolutely can not waste calories on beverages. If you need to sweeten a beverage use stevia. You also can not waste calories on complex carbs such as bread, crackers, et. You really need to eat whole foods (fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy). Keep it simple.

Thank's very much Beyourbest. Great advice, i'm willing to give up my pop and beer. And I am definitly going to look into that exercise.... my cousin has one and she doesn't use it... maybe i can borrow it for a month and see if I like it. As long as it doesn't hurt my knee and hips. I'm down for any exercise. They only thing right now I can't and won't give up yet. Is my morning coffee's, I am going to take smaller portions of side dishes of rice, pasta's and etc. But no carb's I don't think I can do that....maybe. I'll have to look into it. I've talked my doctor about all possible things that might stop me from lossing my weight and what to avoid. She found no problems medically. No thyroid problems, or diabetes or vitamin defficiencys. So i'm good there. She did recommend not to take out all carbs and sugars. Yes sugars like the one I put in my coffee, but if I don't feel I can. She said start to lessen them til i'm not using any. Everyones bodies run different she said, so find what works for me. Makes sense...... She said not to go on a high protein no carb diet. Because i'll loss the weight to fast and will do a yo-yo effect. So I am lowering my carb intake. But not getting rid of them completly. Another site said that when you slouch all the time, your stomach muscles become weak and retain weight there easily. That could make sense too. I have always slouched cause of heavier upper body. So i'm definitly looking into alot of exercises that will help me with that. And thinking about buying a posture belt to help me fixs my horrible slouching habit.

I'd suggest abdominal exercise instead of a belt (belt will only mask the problem, not fix it). crunches, planking and side hip ups should work most of the area.

Early weight loss can easily be more than 2 Lb a week which is quite normal (and misleading, most diets use this early stage to "sell" you on the effectiveness of their program) but after a month or two you shouldn't really expect more than 2-3Lb from any diet.

My sister cannot give up her caffeine, I gave it up before pregnancy so it wasn't really an issue for me at any point after my baby was born, but with 2 she HAS to have coffee in the morning. She posted this image the other day that I am going to share with you because I think you will appreciate it. http://crappypictures.typepad.com/crappy-pictures/2012/01/the-uppers-downers-of-parenting-or-coffee-wine.html

I think if you need some caffeine some is okay as long as you're not over doing it, like most things moderation is key. My sister tries to limit it to one cup of coffee or tea a day. I still think you are doing great by working towards no soda and things but doing it in a way that you do not overwhelm yourself. Keep it up!

There is no harm in having a cup of coffee or two. In fact, in moderation, coffee is actually contributing to your health and wellbeing.

And there is nothing wrong with having the occasional coke or pepsi or whatever it is you fancy. If you can make it a no sugar one, it will be easier to work it into your diet, obviously.

The person who claimed you can't lose weight while drinking diet soda or anything like that is grossly exaggerating, and they're completely wrong as well. Plenty of people, on this forum and elsewhere, have lost huge amounts of weight, me included, without ever entirely giving up coke etc. I lost 125 lbs and had at least one large glass of pepsi max daily. There is nothing in diet soda that makes you 'hold on to your fat'. The sweeteners in it can make you crave more sweets, if you're unlucky, but that is down to the individual, and you have to find that out for yourself.

As with everything, moderation is the key. If you like your soda, diet or otherwise, it will be much better for you to incorporate some into your daily diet than to eliminate it completely.

And of course it will help you to lose weight to switch to diet stuff. If you drink 5 cans of diet pepsi instead of full sugar (or Dr. Pepper, or whatever you prefer), you just eliminated roughly 750 calories from your daily intake.

And yes, I do know the old discussion about the sweeteners and how 'dangerous' they supposedly are - that is where moderation comes into the picture yet again. A glass (or can) of diet soda a day is not going to do you any more harm than breathing in all the crap in the air, or ingesting all the chemicals found in drinking water.

Hey San, I"m curious as to where you are getting your information on this? Both my Trainer and my Nutritionist said that soda DOES cause you to hold onto weight/fat because of the chemicals, and they said that the diet ones are just as bad as the regular ones. My nutritionist said if I wanted to drink soda (which I don't any more) that she would prefer I go with the regular one because the fake sugars have more toxins and chemicals in them and it would be better to just have sugar instead of all those toxins. While I agree with you that it would not be impossible to lost weight while drinking soda, and that moderation is key, I lost 5 lbs the first week I cut out soda from my diet. I'm sure I"m not the only one who could share an experience like that. It may not be impossible to lose weight, but it sure will make weight lost harder by consuming the empty calories and carbs and all that bad stuff that does come from consuming alcohol and soda.As well as the suggestion from an earlier post to go for fizzy water with fresh squeezed juice in it, thats what my nutritionist had me do.

Thank you very much, that was a funny read!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The one morning I tried not having a coffee, I couldn't wake up, got my kids there breakfast......and wow. I feel asleep while sitting on the couch. I felt like such a bad mom. So i decided not to mess with my coffee. I am going to lessen the sugars thou that I put in them. And San thank you very much, for trying to make me feel better about my one can of pop i had the other day. It was a slip, but I think I will do without pop when I can, and maybe have one can here and there. I felt like such a tool, for having the one. As of monday, I'm going to be going full force on the diet and the exercise....... This weekend wasn't the best time for it. I finally got a night of from my kids in a year. And my man took me to an italian resturant. We had dinner for two, Omg great food. Not sure how good for me and I drank light beer all night....not that it was good for me. But I needed this night off. Does anyone Know what alchol is ok to drink on a diet anyways. Except wine..... I can't drink that stuff always gives me a headache. But thanks again for the support, I'm keeping in mind alllll of your advice. Even after 4 days, of eating different and not drinking as much pop and lots of water. I feel better..... I've been doing exercises daily and still lost 2lbs. WOW.

I think vodka with a diet lemonade or coke or just soda water, or no added sugar lime cordial and soda water. well done for reducing the pop! :)

Congrats on the loss! There is a lifestyle called Body for Life, I did it back in high school and lost a lot of weight, but it was a great concept of balance and moderation. You eat super well, clean when you can but you get one cheat day a week. The idea behind it is that even if you indulge once a week, if you are doing great the rest of the week/time that one indulgence should not mess you up. However now that I am much older I have noticed any over-indulgence messes me up. But I can normally do with moderations of "slip ups". Keep it up! 2 lbs is GREAT!

@heavy mama 22, welcome to the forums! As a raw foodist I would suggest that you eat foods that contain more water like tomatoes and watermelons. That can help you get filled up without gaining more pounds.
