Miss Universe Australia model too skinny?

I don't think her body is beautiful, nor do I think she is at a healthy weight. She should gain some weight (in a healthy way) because she is a model and she should look good, but the media has already convicted her of being anorexic with the only evidence being her BMI and her appearance.

I have a huge problem with this restrictions on BMI that are being proposed. I believe that they should have standards expected of models for more healthy looking bodies. But I don't think they should ban people based on their BMI. It's hysterical and sensationalist.

SOMEBODY QUICK! GET A BIG MAC!!!

That girl is staved! if my daughter looked like that she would be in a hospital for anorexia.

I did see the articles online but not any decent pics. The pics i saw she looked ok, where did these pics come from?

Skinny people unite!!

I'm glad she got her say and I'm even happier she's up to 117 (just like magic, go figure)

Perhaps the part of the story that wasn't covered was cutting weight for competition like they all do, much like jockeys and wrestlers etc.. It's part of the job.

But Australian Medical Association president Rosanna Capolingua, whose organization represents Australian doctors, said the contest should impose a minimum BMI cut-off of 20.

"The most unhealthy part about it, though, is the image it is showing other young women who may view this as normal, when clearly it s not," Capolingua said.

This really goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to trying to discriminate.

Now, people considered by BMI to be of normal weight (<18.5) aren't even allowed.

Not every doctor out there has smart things to say....

Thank You.

I really find it interesting that they singled her out though, you know? Look at the rest of those girls in that pageant! They all look bloody the same. So like I said in my previous post, it's the pageant, the modeling world, that needs to take a look into themselves and up their flaws.

Ok, i am from Australia, and girls like her are defiantly NOT in the majority at all!!!!!

Thats wayyyyyy too skinny.. Not attractive in the slightest..

im sorry, shes just disgusting and full of shit.

haha, I agree.

I just wish the hard questions and honest answers would have been produced. I guess Diane Sawyer (the interviewer) didn't wanna get pushy with her. Was it so hard to admit competitions have cut-throat strategy involved with weight loss and leaning out? C'mon, I was born at morning but not yesterday morning...

oh wait, full of shit? maybe once every three weeks - if that. That's a laxative queen if ever I saw one - providing she ate enough to make a complete bowel movement. If she eats 6 meals a day, 5 of them must be 5 carrot sticks two hours apart.

She's not disgusting and full of shit, her illness is.

If she does in fact have one. It's hard to be ill and often think straight. What she says and what she defends is most likely the illness speaking through her.

The only thing I'm wondering is did yall notice how she wouldn't show what a serving size of her meal looked like? She just kind of walked around it and was like yea theres some meat and some vegetables. So does that mean 1 shrimp and a carrot stick or a 3-4oz serving of chicken or some meat and like 2 cups lettuce? I think that if she really thought that what she ate was the correct amount she would have been able to say more exactly what she ate. And they didn't even ask how much does she exercise. All she said was she was "active". Hmmm it still seems fishy to me.

yes the excuses she gives sounds suspicious.
also ''I feel fine'' isn't an exact analysis. to know if her health hasn't suffered she needs to be tested, you can feel good because you have a diet coke once in a while and still be malnourished.
but I do believe she doesn't know she is not eating enough or that it could be a form of eating disorder. by trying to stay fit she is taking it a bit on the extreme side- even if she is naturally skinny which is fine- she looks too skinny.

I don't believe people were actually trying to attack her either, after all of the cases of models dying (anorexia, bulimia or not) it is just comprehensible that it alerts people to try to send the right message out there.

I agree that the girl herself shouldn't be berated for having an illness (if she does- she sure appears to.) What I'm confused and horrified by is the fact that she's obviously been told by a great many people that she's gorgeous and has a nice body. Um...no!! No matter what standard of beauty a person uses, she is TOO SKINNY. It's awful looking. Why would people validate that?

I wouldn't get too defensive.
I took Wishes comment at "her weight is disgusting" not "omg she's a horrible disgusting person", I use the term disgusting in the terms of "Wow...that's too low of a weight, it's horrible to look at and knw someone thinks they look fine like that."

Full of shit? who knows. She's probably been brainwashed all her life because of these things, depending on how early she started.

Illness = cancer, flu, etc..

Anorexia = decision; a self-perpetuating addiction.

The polar opposite (the obese class) would be to say this forum is comprised of people with extreme eating illness in varying degrees. I don't think that boat will float here.

I agree, I don't class Anorexia (or Obesity) as an illness. It is something that you do to yourself, a decision you make, and subsequently an addicition.

The same goes for alcoholism and smoking. You make the decision to light the cigarette or have the drink, and you makie the decision to stuff your face or stick your finger down your throat.

That's not an illness, it's self inflicted.

Sydney model Stephanie Naumoska, 19, was one of 32 contestants from more than 7,000 hopefuls to make the glittering final at an event promoting "healthy, proportioned, bodies."

Hmmm if you ask me they're all too skinny and dont accurately represent a REAL woman. How many of us are over 5'10 and all toned and rail thin?
Hellooo where's the CURVES. and I'm not talking hey yeah fat is okay. But wheres the NATURAL woman. with some legs and ass..and for god sakes do they have to be giants haha. cmon here where's the love for little 5'4 inchers like me. haha:ack2:

No, and Illness would be something you cant help. If you stop putting food into your mouth and kid yourself repeatedly enough that you believe it, then its self inflicted still. Mental health or not.

The problem with todays society is that nobody wants to take responsibility for anything.
Proof of point, see 100 years ago for any anorexia or similar. Funny how that works eh? Same goes for Obesity. You can kid yourself that you are not eating that much, and that you eat healthy, but your body is telling you the truth.

Hit the nail on the head as usual. But you have to have been there, and beaten it to understand i think. Most people here just wont "get it".
Those that fess up and stop making excuses for everything and everyone are the ones that succeed.
