Minimee's diary

Hi and welcome to my weight loss diary.

I joined the site 8 weeks ago in the hope of finding the healthiest and safest way to lose weight.
I was so inspired by the before and after pictures, I just knew that this time I had to try harder than ever before.

This time I was going to stick with it no matter what, and If I had an off day I would not give up (like I had done so in the past).
I started by doing lots of walking on the treadmill and had lost 9lbs in my first week, by the end of week 3 I'd lost 21lbs.

I then decided not to weigh every week and just focus on healthy eating and exercise (I figured I'm on the right track now so why weigh every week?).
I got curious and ended up weighing myself 3 weeks later and was shocked to see that I had lost 4lbs...

I couldnt understand how I had lost 21lbs in the first 3 weeks but then just 4lbs in the following 3weeks?
I understood that It wasnt always going to be 9lbs but couldnt help but think "all that work and just 4lbs"?
That wasn't going to stop me as I'd come this far, and thought why stop now.

I should point out that I fully understand that a loss is a loss regardless of how much :)

I wasnt going to give up, and kept going only now a forum member advised me to add strength training to my routine, So I cut down on cardio and added in strength training.

I weighed myself and I am very happy to say I have lost 13lbs.
This brings my total weight loss to 38lbs :)

I do have a long way to go, but feel the best I have in as long as I can remember.
I look forward to helping others in the future and I will recommend this site to anyone that ever needs the support, help and advice as it has been an absolute god send to me.

Thanks to everybody for the support, even the members that have no idea that I looked at your thread and felt so inspired by the progress I saw.
:D

I am starting week 13

It's been a slightly confusing journey but from the help of many forum members I finaly got the balance of strength and cardio and have a better understanding of it now.

However...
I Sprained my ankle over a week ago(not through exercising, believe it or not :))and thought it was going to set me back as I couldnt think of what I could do for cardio, that didnt involve jumping or lots of movement and weight bearing, as the past weeks I have been using the treadmill and doing high impact workouts.

Ive found that I can use the exercise bike for cardio (I found a great routine online that involves alternating between peddling as fast as possible and then slowing it down etc) and this is now in place of all the high impact cardio I was doing before my injury.

It is going really well and I am please to say I have lost 47lbs in total.

I would say savoury foods/wine were my weakness before but I cut it down and have found that keeping myself busy and drinking more water/green tea has done wonders for that puffy/bloatedness I used to have in my face & body.

I will try and add some pictures shortly :D

WElcome back and congrats on your progress so far.

The reason why you lost so much weight in the beginning and then slowed radically, i believe, is because of water loss. But don't worry. It happens to all of us. I only found out about this recently. We lose a lot of water because when we start all of a sudden eating a lot less and eating more healthy foods, we consume less salt. High salt foods retains water. Without all those highly salted foods, we are just going to shed all that water. And just by eating less we will be eating less salt.

I personally find it easier to weigh myself every day but i have noticed in the three weeks i've been here and recording it that it jumps all over the place. Its important not to take this too much too heart and get depressed about it. So long as you know you are not cheating and eating over your calorie allowance, it will keep going down over all. But if i have a high salty meal, the next day the weight is up dramatically. Sometimes i don't understand it myself. In 24 hours to this morning i put on 1.6kg and i didn't even eat salty food. I can't account for it but i am not going to worry about it. I know I am losing weight. I know it will drop down again. I don't believe i have put on 1.6kg of fat overnight. Its just water as far as i'm concerned.

I didn't go for my walk yesterday but i also don't attribute the rise to that. Its just a bit incomprehensible but i do think its water gain.

Sometimes people do eat too much on their diets. These are usually too many treats. People who eat too many treats on their diets lose weight more slowly too. Certainly the weight goes up and down a lot with exercise. When we exercise our muscles hold more glycogen. As glycogen is a liquid i think it probably weighs more than solid fat. But glycogen is ready energy and solid fat is just flab. Right?

Thank you fortyfour

I appreciate the information and have definately got a better understanding of how the body works.
The water loss was really frustrating to me at first and that is why I chose not to weigh as often, I just found that it was disappointing if the pounds wernt coming off(although they were/are in inches which made me realise that it also could be muscle growth as to why the scales wernt moving so quickly.

Either way it is working and although I know I have stated my weight loss, It's more about how I feel in myself not what I see on the scales, although it does help to see the number going down :)
I think once you get your head around it...it's not so bad.

We'll get there eventually haha :)
Thanks again

Another day and I am really feeling the positive effects of weight loss.
The feeling of putting my shoes on without it being a struggle, walking up stairs without having to stop half way, even driving my car feels so much more comfortable.

I'm halfway there and already major changes are happening and it makes me happy to know that it will just get better and better.
:)

Its great when you start to feel teh results and it becomes motivating in itself. Don't give up. Keep going whatever happens, even if you get bored with the new slim you. That's the thing.

I found out why i put on 1.6kg overnight. Menstruation. It started a few hours after i wrote that post. See there's always a sensible explanation so one shouldn't get up set unless its just going up and up.

Thanks fortyfour and I'm glad you worked out what was causing the slight change in weight, I bet that made you feel more at ease.

I'm interested to know what you meant by "even if you get bored with the new slim you"
Are you speaking from experience or did you just mean to keep focused on staying healthy?

It was a long time since I was slim, I can't imagine ever getting bored of it :)

I am really quite bad at keeping this diary up to date but I will try and at least put my weight changes up, if nothing else.

I am 186lbs today and feeling great.
