Milestones (Amy's diary)

I wonder if I had gone slower if my loose skin would have shrunk with me. I heard that happens but the rate of loss was too slow for me. It does seem to be shrinking sometimes now but then there are days that it doesn't look like it's shrunk at all. It's not fun to have but it's definitely not the worst thing at all. My nipples are itchy. Sorry if that's TMI but I think the loose skin results in more irritation against my shirts. Anyway, it's not bad and my nipples were too sensitive before anyway.

So, Amy... Glad to hear about your plans going forward. Go as slow or as fast as you want and work toward what you really want, whatever it may be. Love the plans for exercise. I'm turning into a huge proponent of it for weight loss. I think it's a weight loss must or near-must. Self-care and self-compassion is always a must. Keep doing that for sure!

Hey Amy, thanks for the update, good to know where you are. Your plans look quite reasonable. Getting out of the obese range will feel good, I know its just a couple of pounds below where you are, but milestones are important.

- maintaining was harder than expected, and I went up from my low of 176 to 178. Lesson learned - "maintaining" still needs to be pretty carefully monitored (ahem! possibly best to go easy on butter... and crackers... and chocolate caramels......)
I can only imagine what maintaining will be like, if I am lucky enough to ever get there, but hearing your experiences and those of others is a big help to folks like me. Thanks, you are a great asset to our forum.

Regaining sucks, but it's always good to learn more about the workings of your body. One of those pounds is likely water/gut filling and will be gone again as soon as you get back to your plan.

Amy I loved your post . I worry about loose skin. My stomach right now is my worst part , good job it's Halloween coming it will fit right in lol .

Losing is hard , maintaining is hard . I love your plans for November . Just got to keep on plugging away at it all.

I like that! So I guess I've been spending the last few months getting ready for Halloween. I don't like lose skin either, but I also see it as a reminder of my weight loss, its better loose than filled with fat!

Here in Ireland November is often a time to let go of the past and look to the future ( . And other things like remember the dead ) . Think that fits in well with kindness November , let go of the negativity that affected us this last year and be nice to ourselves and put ourselves first

Not TMI at all, Rob - stay away from irritating fabrics, would be my tip. :) And thanks for the support for my exercise plans - now to make them more than plans! And I'm agreeing hugely that:
Self-care and self-compassion is always a must.

Thanks, Alligator! And I'm hoping to be overweight-not-obese before the month is out - maybe even before the week is out! Have I mentioned that I have a bottle of prosecco waiting in the fridge to celebrate? :D

Thanks, LaMa! Yes, it's fascinating - both learning about bodies in general - and about one's own body and mind, and how they interact; health is not one size fits all. (Nor are clothes, come to that, but that's another story!)

About the loose skin question - of course young skin is wonderfully and joyously elastic, and can recover more quickly than older skin, but I do think that even at my advanced (don't ask!) age there's some elasticity. Maybe right up until it gets to that old-age state where the skin is very fragile? Anyway, I'm giving it go - natural elasticity, plus moisturisers, plus some exercise.

Oooh kindness month, love the sound of that.
It's Cate's idea, originally - and her motto:
~Be kind, not only to others but to yourself. Self-care is not selfish~
pretty much sums up the whole ethos. (Thanks, Cate, for this recurring inspiration!)

I love the idea of November as a sort of spring cleaning of the spirit, Petal! (November is sort-of spring anyway, for the Southern Hemisphere! and it's never the wrong season to do that kind of sorting-out and letting-go.) And yes, I'm with you, Emily, in not waiting for November to plunge right in on kindness! :)

I won't ask about your advanced age then but just remark that I'd assumed you to be a little younger than me :)

Age is an interesting thing. In most social settings we tend to segregate, more or less, by age. However here there seems to be little of that. Maybe its because we can't see each other, or maybe because we are all here for similar reasons. Either way its kind of refreshing.

I have created some mental pictures of people here, I think it helps with association. Amy, I have a hard time seeing you as older than me, I imagine you to be much younger than I. And I know that by my standards there are some very young people, Emily, Vic and others, but I have no trouble relating to them here, if I met them face to face as strangers I might. To plagiarizer from Garrison Keillor this is a place where all the men are strong, all the women are good looking, and all children are above average!

And Kindness November has begun! Or rather, Kindness is not just confined to November, and I expect will run longer than just one month, too, which is even better!
Cate has begun the thread, here:

and is welcoming all comers and all suggestions for kindness. :)

I've made three suggestions so far, and will be doing at least two of them myself, today. See you all over there!

Yes, I like it, too - without labels like "age" we are able to just interact as people. I like not having politics here, too, for the same reason.
I did mention age in terms of skin, because there is a real difference in how bodies react to all sorts of things at different ages, but otherwise I wouldn't have. You might be a touch older than I am, Rob, but if the whole population was divided into two halves, older and younger, we'd be in the same half (I think - I'm not actually a demographics expert! But you get my drift - I wouldn't be in the "young folks" section).

That probably is best, its one unrelated trail we don't want to go down. I am sure we have people here with a variety of views, and some who feel pretty strongly. I have always liked a reasoned cool headed discussion of politics. I like discussing things with people I don't agree with, it can really help me better understand the world and look more critically at my own beliefs. Unfortunately discussions like that seem to be getting harder and harder to find, particularly in the US.

And we have our hands full with weight loss!

I get so much politically talk at home that I'm glad it's not here. I listened to a full brexit debate the other day. Its enough to drive you to chocolate. Lol

I reckon Amy im in your era too. I am half a century young lol .

I might have a glass here myself to celebrate when you reach your goal. ;)

Being able to re-evaluate our own beliefs is important, I may seem set in my ways on some things, but if someone can show me why I am wrong on something, then I learn and move on, unfortunately regardless of topic this happens rarely with people being too stubborn to talk to each other.
