Hey everyone, I'm new here. Sorry if this is too in-depth/personal or against the rules in anyway.

My name is Michael, I'm 27 years old from UK. I'm around 5'11 and 287lbs. I'll start by answering some of the template questions.

How much weight do you want to lose? Realistically around 91lbs, ideally around 119lbs.
What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? I don't have a set timeframe, just as soon as possible.
How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? Mostly dieting and maybe add on walks/exercise further down the line.
Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? My family is pretty supportive of me and my weight loss although not the best educated on the subject.
How realistic is your goal? I believe it's extremely realistic given I had Gastric Sleeve surgery July 2019 which I think speeds the process up.
When will you start? I already have.
What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? My laziness + the fact I cannot cook at all.

I should give some background into myself. At my heaviest weight I was 380lbs, I could barely walk the length of myself without my knees almost giving out.
I have had agoraphobia since I was 16 years old. Which meant I very very rarely left my house. I couldn't cook and had takeout/junk food all the time, I also drank 2litres of soda every day for about 9 years, so I got really big.

After the passing of a grandparent and feeling like I let them down for not making something of myself, I was in a really dark place and I vowed to lose weight, friends said if I just stopped soda i'd lose a lot of weight given my size but that didn't happen. I tried various diets but could never stick to them and nothing changed. Then I saved up some money and that, mixed with money my grandparent left for me after they passed, I decided to opt for Gastric Sleeve surgery.

I had my surgery July 4th 2019, I was 380lbs, then dropped down to 368lbs with my pre-op diet. Since I had my surgery I have lost 81lbs total.
Around November 2019, I resumed junk food and eating crap (to what my stomach could handle given it's 40% of the size it used to be). My weight loss halted and fluctuated between 308 and 298 for about 4 months. About 3-4 weeks ago I decided to get back on the diet grind. went from 308lbs to 289lbs.
I got stuck there for about a week. I added a protein shake into my diet and dropped a further 2lbs. It has since been another week, I'm stuck on 287 and it's showing no signs of moving. I've completely plateaued and I have no idea what to do. I am looking for advice from people who know more than me on this subject. I have no contact with the people who done my surgery for advice as it was done abroad.

As mentioned before, I cannot cook. My diet, while it might seem really really low in calories for someone my size, isn't actually unhealthy because my stomach is a fraction of the size it used to be.

Diet consists of:

Breakfast - 2 Protein Weetabix pieces & skimmed milk | 370kcal~

Lunch - 1 scoop Diet whey belgium chocolate protein shake | 91kcal

Dinner - Uncle Bens Roasted Garlic Rice (250g) & Sliced Cooked Chicken (240g) | 644kcal

Snacks - Sugar free Redbull x2 (355ml) | 22kcal

In total im having around 1126 calories per day.
Since inputting this data in a calorie counting app, I've since decided to cut the rice portion in half and will be starting this tonight.

The data the app im using is giving was giving me pre rice half portion was 12.7g fat - 139.7g carb - 103.6g protein and a total of 1126kcal per day.
From tonight my new totals will be 10.7g fat - 110.1g carb - 100.4g protein and a total of 974kcal per day.

I drink some water throughout the day although not too much, maybe around 0.5litre.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong and why my weight is not moving at all. I'm really just looking for advice on why my weight loss has stopped, what I can do to kickstart it again and what you would change.

Note: I'm really inactive, work really long hours from home which involves me sitting at a desk 90% of the day coupled with the fact I simply cannot home cook. This diet was the easiest for me and was working until recently.

I appreciate any and all advice, thank you very much.

TL;DR 380lbs>287lbs and have plateaued, need advice.

Hey Michael welcome to the forum!

I am no expert on dieting or weight loss, I can only speak from my own experiences, you will get more expert advice from others, please consider all you hear here.

I have lost 119 lbs in the last 11 months, so it may be possible to lose the weight you want in a year or so, but that's probably about as fast as it gets, others may tell you slower is better, and they may be right. Think about it. You have a lot of life left its more important that you develop good eating habits for the rest of your life than that you lose the weight fast.

Anything below 1,200 calories a day should only be done after consulting with your doctor. I did that, talked with my doctor about it, and for a while I was in the 1,000 calorie a day range, I am now up to more like 1,200 calories a day and am still losing weight quite well.

Your first post is a great start here, I suggest you try posting your food and exercise daily for a while. It will help you and help us understand what you are doing. I am sure you'll get good advice and support.

I am looking forward to following your progress!

Hi Mikk and welcome :grouphug: Congratulations on your achievement so far: you've come a long way already and you've proven your commitment to a change of lifestyle. It's hard for me to comment on your food intake because I know the guidelines after bariatric surgery are so difference from what makes sense for everyone else. Did you get any recommendations or menu suggestions from your surgeon? And do you still take the supplements recommended for you? I can remember watching something on tv about a cookbook author who had bariatric surgery and went on to write a cookbook specifically for people in her situation but I can see it would be difficult if you don't cook at all.
Two things that might make a difference in your situation are drinking more water (between meals of course) and taking 2 minutes every hour of your work day to either get up and walk around or just get up several times in a row (depending on how mobile you are now) to keep the circulation in your legs (and brain!) going. I know your work days are already very long but most people are more efficient when they don't sit for hours on end.

Hi, Michael & welcome to the forum. I did some googling about bariatric sleeves & came to the conclusion that seeing a nutritionist would be the best option if that is possible for you. Are you taking a multi-vitamin?
One of the links I found, which was quite extensive & seemed aimed at professionals, had some interesting info. The link was Gastric sleeve diet: What to eat and avoid & this was just one of the recommendations-
Topics Recommendations Eating habits Plan and arrange frequent small meals throughout the day (4–6 meals/d, according to the post-operational stage) Eat slowly and methodically chew your food Avoid foods that can form phytobezoars, such as persimmons and citrus fruit pith Fluid intake Drink sufficient amounts of fluids to maintain adequate hydration (≥1.5 L/d) Separate liquids from solids; it is advised to abstain from drinking 15 min before a meal and/or 30 min after the meal Avoid carbonated beverages Prevent nutritional deficiencies Eat an adequate amount of protein Make an effort to eat a balanced diet and limit consumption of calorie-dense food and drinks (e.g., milkshakes, ice cream, cakes, and cookies) Take appropriate dietary supplements for life.
It's worth a read I think.

Thanks for the welcome, 2 days since post, made adjustments as mentioned and have dropped another 2lbs. Back to movement! Current weight is 285lbs.

2 lbs in 2 days is amazing. I doubt you can keep that pace up, but you must be doing something right!

What are you doing? What are you eating and what exercise have you done in the last 2 days?

Keep up the good work!

Basically no exercise, only left my house to go shopping on motorbike.

I ate 1 piece of protein weetabix in the morning with skimmed milk, a protein shake in the afternoon. and about 120g of chicken and 125g of garlic rice.

It's a really low calorie diet but I can do it because of my gastric sleeve.

I know post-surgery diets are weird but I do agree with Cate and would like to stress that I hope you´re at last taking your recommended vitamins and minerals.

I don't know anything about the gastric sleeve, but I do know Cate and LaMa are right, you need to maintain some basic level of nutrition. In my experience that does not have to keep you from losing weight.

Best of luck with it!
