Mid-Morning and Mid-Afternoon Snacks?!

I need some suggestions for snacks in between meals. I am fairly confident in my breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals as far as calorie count and healthiness. But I am struggling with my snacks for work during the week.

Originally, when I shopped for this and next week, I bought pineapple tidbits. The horror when I realized that the tiny cup of pineapple had 13 grams of sugar. I am not diabetic that I know of but I haven't actually been to a Dr. to find out. My family history is enough for me to steer clear of sugar.

With that said, I just took a walk and got some dry roasted edamame, kiwi, and pickles. I also have crunchy peanut butter that I'll have a tablespoon of in the afternoon.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for snacks that are low calorie but will keep me full and also help accelerate my weight loss?

I prefer something that will last a while, I like carrots, celery and broccoli but I would prefer to dip them in ranch. I don't eat hummus.. Also, items that don't require a lot of prep as I am at work for these.

Hi. While number of calories and amount of sugar are important, the nature of sugar you are getting is as (some times even more) important. Fruits usually have medium GI (glycemic Index) and are considered fairly safe in moderate amounts. Dries fruits have much higher sugar per mass. You may try protein snacks that give energy with low GI. Protein bars, cottage cheese, yoghurt with fruits are some suggestions.

Thanks @wlcoach.

With that said, what is your opinion on the pineapple tidbits with 13grams of sugar. Is that not considered really high?

Hello Ginger, thanks for your feedback. I don't mind at all! And yes, I thought it was WAY too high. I know I didn't get fat eating pineapple but if it will slow down my losses I'd rather cut it out.

I do like nuts, but find that they are really expensive sometimes, and hard to put down. Yesterday, I settled with roasted edamame which was delicious. But another snack I have to hide if I find myself munching too much.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will add yogurt to my list for snacks next week. I usually find the Light & Fit for diabetics. I am not diabetic but the calorie and sugar is way less than normal. I cannot do greek yogurt. Blech.

Yeah. I am trying to switch it up. I figure if I am going to stick with these changes I have to enjoy what I am eating every day! I'll post here if I have any other ideas.

i suggest you shop at the asian grocery store near you , i personally love roasted seaweed they come in a pack of 5 sometimes each container within the pack is usually 30 calories and theres loads of minerals in seaweed ect... also the fruit at the asian grocery store is a bit more exciting, learn how to prep asian fruits and when there ripe to eat there always full of flavor. but if your looking for something cake-ish but not to high in bad fats and white sugar look for vegan baked goods locally near you, they normally use less sugar and less processed sugars , if you can get vegan gluten free thats even better , as you wont feel as bloated or heavy after eating something.
