"Either I will find a way or make one."

So I've had this case of "reverse anorexia"... I look in the mirror and see normal but then I look at a picture and see, "OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!" I think that's the case for many people. It's hard to realize what is going on with your body, especially if you don't even really care. And then all of a sudden here we are, on a mission to once find ourselves beautiful again. I'm no longer blinded by my confused psych. I'm ready to do this, one step at a time.

A little run down of my history with weight loss may sound cliché. Highschool was great for staying in shape because I have always been active with sports and things. I was always the "big boned" girl and the "strong" girl. I was competitive and healthy. After graduating all he!! broke lose! I gained weight, lost weight, gained weight again, lost again. Now I'm going to lose again but dammit! It's going to stay off! I've never felt this determined and devoted to myself. It's going to be one helluva journey. :)

I started my life change in the beginning of November and recently set my ultimate goal to lose 60 pounds in one year. I figure this is more than enough time to achieve my weight loss goal. I'm going to be weighing in every 50 days, hoping to lose 10 pounds by each weigh in. My workouts consist of progressing through the Couch to 5K program, other cardio, and I have recently added more strength training exercises on off days. My battle is with the food I eat mostly. I can't seem to find a happy medium between too little and too many calories. That will work out with time and a little more help and research on my part.

Everyone knows it's going to take every ounce of determination that can be mustered up to keep going and pressing. If it were easy we wouldn't have these issues. What I hope to get mostly from this site is friendly, understanding people to talk to. People that have been there and people that are there... People that know what it's like to have someone tell you you're beautiful and not believe them.

Do you have a diary page? I would love to read your story. Or just tell me... How long did it take you and what kept you puching yourself?
 
yeah it's floating around here somewhere. Shandy's weight loss journal: Take 3--Action. or something like that. Really it was just a matter of slowly eating less(since I used to eat 2 or 3 servings of food at each sitting), then eating better and finally adding in some exercise. once I started losing weight fairly steadily I added in some weight training to keep from losing the muscle I had burried under the chub.
But to lose the almost 60lbs it took me just about a year. maybe a little over. but I really wasn't trying that hard for months at a time. If I had actually stuck with it I'm sure it would have come off faster.
As far as what kept me pushing, it was mainly this site. I had a lot of great people behind me offering support, ideas, and compliments. can't go wrong with that, and in the case of JZ :D I got the occasional swift kick in the backside that I needed to keep me pushing on my weight training.
other than this site, I did monthly pictures and measurements, set up mini-goals and rewards for reaching those goals, and made myself a personal challenge. If I could do front and side planks for a full 60 count(roughly 2 minutes each) I would go on a mini shopping spree. yeah, I still haven't gotten there yet. but I'm so close!! :D :D


and now that I've written you a book on the subject of Shandy ;) I think it's time I stop rambling for a bit. :D

Hey michelle! I found your journal!!! I'm glad you figured it all out. It is amazing that you are ready to do this- and once you stick to it for a while, and you start seeing the awesome results... you won't be as tempted to slide off because you will know it is all worth it. And no food is going to make you feel better than when you lose the weight and you are proud of your hard work and accomplishment. YOU CAN DO IT. Just stick to it, you will find a lot of good people on here! :D

Well you make it sound so simple. I like that about you. lol. I'm searching to see my muscle under the chub too. I'm already getting stoked for when i have to buy new pants because the ones I'm wearing are too saggy in the rear. :D

Aw thanks! I'm liking this site already. And reading the diaries is just amazing to me. To see the struggle and transformations that I will inevitably encounter, and to see people achieving their goals, it's just... inspiring. I already feel like I have someone to hold up my goals to, besides myself.
 
Today is the first day of this little at work challenge I have with a coworker. We are going to see who can lose the most pounds in two months. She's leaving for vacation March 4th so that is what set this whole thing off. We've been working together for two years now and I can't tell you how many times we've talked about our dieting and how we need to change something. This time around I actually feel like we are going to get somewhere. The person that loses the most by March 3rd will get $2 per pound paid to them. :D It's not much but it's a start. Any sort of motivational factor is a good thing.

I'm not too excited about having to weigh in... The scale and I do not get along. I am just going to have to DO IT!
 
Im sure youll conquer the diet in no time.

For me, eating right is the easy part. Getting up and exercising is the hard part! :smilielol5:

Sunday... The one day known for laziness.

I definately should have went to the gym today. I logged about 2000 calories for the day. Way more than I would have liked. =/ That happens.

I'm going to work it tomorrow though! I am meeting with Ryan, my Christmas present from my mom was a few meetings with a personal trainer. Haha. Probably the coolest thing I have ever gotten. I know he's going to work my muscles tomorrow morning for sure. The last time we met I was sore for three days after, but I actually like the pain. That means it's working... right? So, strength training and cardio blasting tomorrow.

How exciting. :)
 
That's so EXCITING to have a personal trainer! You sound very goal oriented and determined, and I'm sure with his assistance, you'll be right on track. :)

I think what really matters though is, IS HE HOT? Just kidding -- but really. Haha.

Anyway, I'm super excited we're on the same team for the challenge! It's going to be G-R-E-A-T!!

OH AND PS - I also read your first post about "reverse anorexia." WOW. Story of my life! Totally how I felt about my pictures!

Thanks for the post!

I read your thread and can relate to the difference between what the mirror (or scale or another person) says and what my head thinks!! In high school one of my teachers told me she thought I could be a model because I was tall and slim and pretty. I didn't believe her of course (even though looking back I'm inclined to agree). On the other hand, it wasn't until I saw group photos from my dad's birthday party this summer that I was convinced I was once again overweight.

This challenge is going to be awesome... Just what I need to stay on course. The food is challenging for me, the workouts I have in the bag. ;)

So 6 WEEK NEW YEARS CHALLENGE, DAY 1!!!

I'm excited to talk more with all the teammates. :D I hope we start our own "Team Two Thread".

Today I started work at 9am and I'll get outta here at 8pm, I'll probably get home at 9pm and get to the gym at 9:30... It's going to be a late night. I want to start off the first day with an oomph! Keeping in my alotted calories (1500) should be easy because I don't have really any temptations while at work. Well, aside from the Starbucks anyway. :p

I'll do some jogging and some elliptical tonight. Then I'll go to bed and sleep peacefully, wake up and do the same darn thing tomorrow. This week I'm working every single day until next Thursday. I guess it'll help me keep dedicated to this challenge!

Hope to talk to some more of the Team Two'mates. :D
 
Just posting how the 6 WEEK NY CHALLENGE points are going to go...

POINTS

1. EATING

You get 10 points for each day that you either stick to your alloted calories or stick to your intended plan if you dont count calories. Having an unhealthy snack is permitted if its not part of a loss of control where you're eating over your planned calories or eating nothing but junk for the day. That's when you screwed up and dont get the points.

If you eat clean the entire week (again, snacks are OK but mini binges are not), you get an additional 50 points at the end of the week.

2. EXERCISE

You get 100 points if you work out at least 4 hours per week. At least 60 minutes of that time must include weight training, yoga, pilates or some other form of strength training. You can split up the strength work outs any way you want as long as you do a total of 60 minutes within your 4 hour total weekly exercise.

3. WEIGHT

At the end of the challenge, you will receive 5 points for each pound lost during the challenge. Week to week weight change during the challenge will not count toward additional points.
