Metformin and weight loss?

Hi!

I had introduced myself last week with a weight concern and got no replies. I am trying to get things in control with my weight as I feel as though I have a valid concern. With as active as I am, I spend about 12+ hours a week at the gym alternating cardio and weight training. I can burn anywhere from 4000 - 5000 calories a week through what I am tracking, and then the burn continues as I lift. I am 41 and I weighed 172 at the doctor's office this morning. I am 5'5 and obesity runs in my family. I started really pushing it at the gym 3 weeks ago, I am drinking lots of water (some days 100 ounces), I am tracking what I eat and do not eat fast food, bread or pasta carbs, and really try to get in enough protein to refuel my muscles and to give me energy. I did speak to a dear friend of mine at the gym who is an instructor and her husband is a doctor, and she expressed that I could be over eating on protein and building muscle, which will naturally cause weight gain. My first 2 weeks, I lost 5 pounds. Went from 175 to 170. Then, last week, for whatever reason, I started gaining about a pound a day. I got to 174.4 by Thursday. I only weighed just to see if gain was consistent. No, I do not normally weigh everyday, but with the increase of my weight, I was trying to track where I was at, see how much I have gained, and problem solve to see what in the world I am doing WRONG! Even if muscle does weigh more than fat, I still should not be gaining like that. But I am not lifting enough, or I do not think, to gain a lot of muscle to see weight gain like that.

I do have thyroid issues (hypo), but when I had my levels checked last month, they were fine. So, went to the doctor today for crud. My husband was home last week with the flu and I teach Pre-Kindergarten. The crud has been going around my room like crazy (and I clean often!). While there, I expressed concerns with my weight. No, I am not letting the scale define me, but with what I know, 30 pounds or more is considered obese. I feel I am closing in on that. Thinking normal weight for me is 145 - 150ish. Thing is, if you saw me, I do not look near what I weigh. Still, I do not want to be in the obese category or have any related issues that accompany it. That is my concern. With obesity in my family, and my mother has diabetes due to her weight, naturally I am concerned.

So, went to the doctor with the crud and expressed concerns with my weight. Told her all that I have been doing. My vitals support my exercise ... my heart rate was at 59 BPM and BP was 120/80 (not ideal, but not bad). She suggested that I take Metformin. It is a good medication for non-diabetic people wanting to lose weight and then hoping to conceive. Got to talk to my endocrinologist first, but I think he will be on board. Yes, I am 41 and want to conceive. Hubby and I have been married over 17 years with no luck and I saw a fertility doctor and had treatments and two IUIs before having an emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor last year, so my body and hormones have been through a great deal.

Anyway, I am a novel writer by nature. Just want to add some history and concerns if anyone else has had the same experience or advice.

So, Metformin for weight loss??

I have inserted 2 photos. The first one is me in a body pump class. I am wearing the black and white tank with grey pants. The second is me doing body combat. I am wearing the Auburn shirt and grey pants.

Hi Sunflower. The only approved indication of Metformin is Type 2 Diabetes. However it is also used for nondiabetic people who need weight management, and also possibly with polycystic ovary syndrome. This far you know already. What metformin does is to help Insulin "let the sugar into body cells." Basically Insulin is the hormone that promotes "saving" carbs in form of fat. And we can help Insulin do its job by:
1) Having low GI (Glycemic Index) food. Sugar and everything with sugar in it has High GI, everything with fibre and protein has low GI. So taking a cup of Fruit yoghurt is a much better choice than a doughnut for snack.
2) Besides Metformin, you need Chromium and vit D in form of supplements.
3) I totally understand that a need for weight management could be a mental burden. However, the more you are concerned about it, the more Cortisol (a stress hormone promoting weight gain) you will have in your system. Let the journey of managing your weight be a joyful one. What you do with your mind is much more important than what you do in the gym. There are methods to modify our mindset about ourselves.
Hope it helps.

Hello

In order to successfully lose weight you have to understand how the body functions with fat.

See this:

The mitochondria (cell vitality focuses) in your muscle or liver cells pull a portion of the fat (put away as triglycerides) from inside your fat cells and put it through a metabolic procedure. This changes over the fat into warmth, carbon dioxide, water, and ATP (adenosine triphosphate). We should separate those.

Warmth: Heat vitality is essentially imperative for being not-dead. You know how you, being a warm-blooded well evolved creature, keep your body temperature right around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit virtually constantly? That's right, its by smoldering calories. When you're icy, you blaze way more calories to keep yourself warm. What's more, in the event that you're pondering exactly the amount of warmth vitality is put away inside fat, next time you make a dish of bacon, empty the abundance fat into a can and put a wick in it. You will be stunned by to what extent it blazes.

ATP: As you may recollect from our take a gander at creatine, we require ATP for muscle capacity. Our essential wellspring of prompt vitality is created when we sever a phosphate atom the ATP, and it makes a little blast of accessible power in your muscles. At that point it gets to be ADP, and it can't be utilized again until it grabs another phosphate particle. Krebs Cycle, infant. Essentially, it conveys fuel to your muscles.

What's the Deal With Creatine?

Creatine has been uncontrollably prevalent since the 1990s. It's touted as an alternate way to increasing lean…

Carbon Dioxide: Whenever you smolder anything (see heat, above), it gives off carbon dioxide. It's valid with fuel, and its valid with muscle to fat ratio ratios. The carbon dioxide will go through your circulatory system until it comes back to your lungs to be breathed out.

Water: Fat normally feels kinda wet to the touch, isn't that so? That is on account of there's some water in it. You'll pee it out.

I'm a non-diabetic person too but my doctor also suggested Metformin for weight loss. I took it once a day (500g) for the first 3 months and I lost 5 lbs. That's good enough for me specially since I didn't really took it continuously. I just take it when I remember to take it. But eversince I knew it was effective, my doctor also suggested me to take 2 a day. Many people noticed I lost weight but I don't really watch my weight and I'll wait for my next doctor's appointment by the end of the month to know how many lbs I lost.
