Anyone Else Doing Medifast?

Hello All!

I posted my before and during pictures already so I thought I would post here and see if anyone else is doing the Medifast diet. I have been doing it since Feb. 28th and have lost 56 lbs. I tried every diet around and would lose a few pounds here and there but nothing like this diet.

So I just wondered if I am alone in my weight loss journey.

My mother lost on it... went off it and gained it all back.

Yeah, you cant go back to your old eating habits when you get to goal. There is a correct way to do it and still eat 1500 calories a day to maintain your goal. I love the program but it is not for everyone.

I am doing it, I am doing it!!

I see you posted this a while ago, but I am looking for another on the Medifast plan too. I just started, today is my second day. I am feeling pretty rough, I have to admit. My bones feel like they ache. Did you go through that too?

I have about 150 to lose. My goal is 145-155lbs. I weigh 297 right now. I feel I am really ready to do this this time. I am having a hard time getting motivated to exercize though. I cannot imagine mustering up the strengh. I really struggle when I make meals for my two young boys. I want to chow down on thier lunch!

You look great! You are an inspiration to me.

Well ive been doing the whole calorie counting thing for a while now and its deffinately worked. But its stopped working lately i either hit a plateau or gain. So i tried upping my calories and that worked for a while then stopped. I tried zig zagging calories. That worked but then stopped. So i looked up diet plans on the internet and Medifast really appealed to me. I know most people just think its a fad diet but i would like to give it a try.
However it is quite expensive. So ive been reading the basic principals of the diet and from what i can gather it entails eating 5 smalls meals of around 100-150 calories and one 300-400 calorie meal consisting of lean meat and vegetables. Do you think it would be possible to diet this way but not using the medifast products?

:)

i thought medifast was a very low calorie liquid diet -wiht really only one meal of solid food a day..

I'm not totally sure it's long term healthy...

Have you been keeping track of your calories? programs like and the 100s of other calorie counters can be a great tool for that... what range have you been eating in? what are your workouts like?

there are a few threads aroound here on the concept of 6 meals a day and there's no real proof that it helps with weight loss - its really about total calorie consumption for the day.

Well i was consuming around 1500 calories a day. But then i was told that for the amount of exercise i was doing i needed to up them. So i used the BMR calculator and that estimated 1800 calories day. So i stuck to that for a few weeks an i lost more weight but its stopped yet again. So i need something to get my weight moving again. Cause it really is dis-heartening when nothings happening an your working your ass off lol. Thats why im considering medifast, i thought maybe if i changed my diet plan it might start moving things again.
Exercise wise im pretty active. I usually do around 2 aerobics classes a day 5 times a week. Then sometimes more cardio in the gym dependant on the amount of time i have. But i also throw discus twice a week in 2 hour sessions and that usually consists on an hour of weight training pair session. And im usually on my feet alot between classes an at lunch in my college hours. And i walk everywhere to the gym, from the gym, to the track and back and to the bus and back every morning for college.
So its not like im not burning off my calories. And i have a small journal i carry around with me to keep track of calories.

Really stressed with it all at the moment :(

My weight loss had stalled for about 3 months - I wont call it a plateau because it really wasn't -it jsut wasn't coming off as fast as I wanted and at the same time I wasn't being as meticulous as I had been... so I was eating fairly close to maintenance... not really stopping any exercise just not being careful with calories.

I finally got my butt back in gear and this week I had - so far anyhow a- fairly nice reward on the scale.

Steve, our charming resident expert, has posted around here a few times that one of the ways to kick start weight loss again, especially if you've been at it for a while, is to eat close to maintenance for a while - - that could be a couple of weeks -then refocus and cut back a bit on calories and you should see an improvement.

I didn't do it intentionally it was just a bad attitude on my part -but I can honestly say it did work... figuring out maintenance though, is what might take a few tries... for me it was about 13.5 calories a lb - the average person is around 15 calories per lb.

you've been doing great so far -you're down almost 50lbs.. that's fantastic -

have you also been checking measurements regularly - you're working out a lot so you mighy see more changes there as well

Yeah ive been told to check out measurements. I guess that would help out alot. I probably wont get so down if i dont lose anythin then.

I love Medifast :)

I've been on Medifast since last October, and have lost nearly 150 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but no - it's not a liquid diet. I have 5 MF meals a day plus one "Lean and Green" meal - with calories hovering somewhere around 1000 a day. Medifast meals can include shakes, hot or cold drinks, and soups, puddings, oatmeal and (pretty darned yummy) bars.

I did a liquid diet long ago under a doctor's care, and this is so much better - I'm losing weight quickly, but don't feel "woozy", I can exercise, I feel great, I'm more agile, I don't think about food constantly, because I do eat.

I started running a couple of months ago - I honestly feel amazing, and it's all thanks to Medifast.

Medifast is Great!!

I have been on Medifast since mid-August 2007. Since then I have lost 65 pounds and hope to lose 42 more by the end of the year -- and I know I will be able to do it!

In October 2006 I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. I had tried diet after diet and, after losing about 20-30 pounds, the weight would come right back and bring friends -- even though I hadn't done anything different in my schedule or diet. Once diagnosed with diabetes, the meds I had to take packed on even MORE pounds and made losing the weight necessary for proper glucose control nearly impossible. I found Medifast in a diabetes magazine, got my doctor's reluctant permission to try it (he didn't think I would last more than a few months) and, not sure if it would do any good, ordered two weeks' worth of food.

By my next doctor's visit in early November, I had dropped 40 pounds and he began taking me off diabetes meds and reducing the dosages of some of my other medications. I am now in complete remission from diabetes (as of January 1), am off ALL diabetes medications, have gone from a size 20 to a 10 in nine months, and feel better than I have since I was a teenager -- and that was a LONG time ago!!

MF has been great for me

I did a liquid diet back in 1990 - Optifast, the one Oprah did. I lost 100 lbs (went from 257 to 157). It was 3 months total liquid, then 3 months easing back into regular food. But when the 6 months was done, that was it.

I went on to get married, have kids, and gained weight. In Sept of 2006, I was about  240 lbs. I was ready to go back to the only thing that ever worked for me, total food fast. But my dear husband was concerned, so I found Medifast. With MF, I could do 5 liquid meals and one "regular" lean & green meal (L&G)..... or actually get MF meals that were close to "real" food! I started in Sept. 2006, and chose this meal plan that seemed like a real eating plan, not "fasting":
B: Oatmeal
Snack: Pudding
L: L&G - Salad w/ chicken breast
Sn: meal bar
D: soup
Sn: hot cocoa.
(and LOTS of WATER!)

I ate 6x a day, but the foods took a week or so to figure out how to prepare them (gotta let some of them re-hydrate a while!), and lost weight. I didn't exercise a bit until 3 months in. For me, following MF was pretty easy. I didn't have to make many eating choices.

By summer 2007, I had passed and re-set my weight loss goal several times, and lost 70 lbs!!! Wowza! I'm still about 10 lbs above a "healthy BMI"... but I'm holding here for a while.

I "transitioned" in July 2007, and still use MF meals 2-3 times a day (I make cookies with their shake and oatmeal mixes, I have these cookies for breakfast every day.) I love their bars.

I'm in the hardest part, maintaining, and I've been up & down about 8 lbs. But my new clothes still fit, and I will not outgrow them!

So MF has been great for me. The real clincher was/is the on-line chats, forums, blogs. I go there frequently for tips, encouragement, motivation.

Good luck finding the right program for you!

Medifast is Life Changing!

Medifast has changed my life and continues to do so!

I've lost a total of 88 pounds on Medifast since November 07. My health is better and my life is better. I started out at 357 - the highest weight I have ever been. I couldn't walk, sleep let alone breathe. I couldn’t play with my children. I could barely walk the halls at work. I need to do something as I was miserable. I wasn't fun to be with or be around. My marriage began to suffer. I realized that my kids and my marriage were more important to me than anything.

I did lots of research and even tried to have the lap band surgery. I tried and tried (saw 6 docs!) and due to insurance constraints, I was told no time and time again. It finally dawned on me that God didn't want me to have the surgery - He wanted me to find another way.

One evening my hubby came home and was so excited about the Medifast program that he couldn't wait to tell me about it. His boss, who had been 80+ pounds overweight lost it all in 5 months. I was shocked. His health increased - he stopped all medicines. He was no longer a diabetic. My hubby got the website for me.

I went to the site and checked it out. We discussed the program and all the benefits and decided to go for it that evening. My first order arrived November 13, 2007 (I'll never forget that day as it is the first day of my new life!) and I began this fantastic journey.

Was it easy? No. I had to re-learn 35+ years of bad habits. Does it take work? Of course, it’s not going to come off overnight. Am I still learning? You bet. Do I regret ever using Medifast? Absolutely not. I don't call this a "diet" because it’s not....it’s my life plan. Medifast is teaching me the way to be healthy for the rest of my life.

There is no magic pill.
There is no magic chef.
There is no magic patch.
There is no magic liquid.
There is no magic wand.
There is no magic surgery.
There is no magic...period.

MF isn't even magic....but it truly is amazing.

This wonderful program has 25+ years of research from John Hopkins backing Medifast. I have the most amazing support group online you can imagine. Can’t make it to a center or there is not one close to you? You can do this program online! You can place your orders, join support groups, talk to Nutritional Support (they are awesome!!) and ask them any question you may have; and you can physically see the results others have achieved by visiting the Success Forum. You can see those who’ve lost 30 pounds to over 200 pounds and more by utilizing the Medifast tools. Talk about motivation!!

Your journey doesn’t end there, either. Medifast has a transition and maintenance program to ensure your success. Now THAT’s a true life plan!

I have 135.8 pounds left to lose. That number used to overwhelm me, depress me and cause a downward spiral. Not any longer because I have the most amazing plan and tools at my fingertips – I have Medifast! :hurray:

I am Thin - thanks to Medifast

I was heavy my whole life (now 54). I started Medifast after realizing I couldn't continue my active lifestyle at 215 pounds. On a 5'2" woman, that's a LOT of weight. Nothing else worked - and I tried them all. I decided Medifast was my last hope.

Well, it worked! I lost 80 pounds in a little over 9 months. I'm now wearing a size 4!! I hit goal on April 20 and feel like my life has just begun. I've been in transition for nearly 8 weeks now and am currently 2 pounds below my goal weight.

I think the secret is not in the food itself (which is pretty amazing, let me tell you). It's that the program taught me how to make good choices. By only having to focus on preparing one meal a day (the Lean & Greem mentioned by other posters), I learned to make healthy choices. The transition stage then taught me how to add back other food groups, and still make those healthy choices. I have totally changed my relationship with food. I love it, but it doesn't control me any more.
