Hello I was doing some digging in another forum website and came
across a meat and egg fast diet for those who hit a point where they
are stuck? It looks to me for 7 day's you eat eggs and meat no cheese
diet sodas accondiments veggies or fruits, well anyway there were a ton
of people saying they were losing anywhere form 5-13 lbs in 1 week
then hopping back on their regular diet and still kept losing but not as
much a week, but it gave them a re/kickstart? I was gonna keep it in
the back of my mind for when my weight quits ?
What's everyones opion on this fast? Tammy:rolleyes:

it seems to be popular among stalled Low Carbers... but i doubt it would do much if you aren't on a low carb diet (which id on't think are a wise way to go anyhow - it's not a lifestyle choice.. and any diet that eliminates food groups isn't healthy long term.. no matter what the dead doctor claims :D

Hi Niapage

In response to your question, and the previous replies, low carb diets do not exclude whole foods groups. It's a matter of finding your own level of carbohydrate intake that precludes you gaining weight. The meat and eggs might be helpful in the short term, to 'restart' your weight loss.

You can eat fruit and low carb, recommended fruits are small berries, e.g. blueberries, blackberries, bilberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc. They are lower in carbs than most other fruits, and very good antioxidants as well. Basically, stay away from high sugar fruits, and the greener your vegetables, the better. There is no such thing as a 'carbohydrate free' diet, as all foods contain carbs, even if only a trace.

As maligned as he was, remember that Atkins was first and foremost a practicising cardiologist, so had much direct experience of the overweight/obese, and knew what it was like to be overweight himself.

I suggest you read the book, and other writings on cardiology and weight, do a web search to get broader opinions, then judge. The book is hard going at first, as it's more of an exercise in cardiology until you get to the diet bits. The case histories are interesting, and inspiring, however.

I think that the main thing with any plateau phase is not to slip back. Remember you're already slimmer than you were before! Good luck!

After reading maleficent's posts on carbs/protein/fats, it's hard to imagine cutting down on any of the 3.

My mother goes to weight watchers, and related this experience to me. There was a member in the group who was absolutely stuck. She was asked to write all the foods she was eating. I forgot what she was lacking, but when she added it back into her diet, she started to lose weight again.

On the other hand, you probably couldn't do a lot of harm by doing something for only 7 days.

It's an adaptation of the Atkins diet(by the way he died of heart failure.) The first stage of the Atkins is mostly meat, eggs, cheeses. It will really strip the weight off. I was on that stage before and lost a bunch though it quickly came back.

it's really phase 1 of atkins... or a modification thereof... as has been said- one week won't kill anyone but - i prefer balance...

sumner, I think one of the biggest misconceptions about atkins is that you can have 2 pounds of bacon every day and still lose weight... most people don't read the book and really put their health at risk.. I've read the book, and prefer balance in my diet... I don't like sugar and am switching over to whole grains from white flour products... but phase oneof atkins where youc an't have fruit is just too severe for my tastes...

hiya,
It is much the same as doing the induction of atkins you will lose weight quickly but you will also gain it back (and then some) quickly! I'm a low carb veteran and in the past lost a lot of weight on atkins, unfortunately it all came back and now I'm just exercising and trying to watch what I eat (most of the time).
The best thing is to take it slow and remember the slower you lose it the slower it comes back, I can eat the occassional chocolate bar (or block of chocolate for that matter) and not gain a thing while in the past had I done that on atkins I would not have been a very happy chappy.
But as with all things the choice is yours just don't say I didn't warn you :)

Thanks

Hello everyone,
I totally agree with you can't totally cut out
a certain food group but from the looks of phase1 It looks like
you have veggies meats and a little carbs. I am happy with what
I am doing now which is watching my calories and fat but I must
admit I do feel hungry after hours when your not suppose to eat!

Thats why it crossed my mind drop some weight and feel full but
of course healthy is always ontop of my list! I can's see eating a
lb-2lbs of bacon or any meat at that but unlimited baked chciken
breast some cheese I can go for that lol!;) Thanks I am sticking to
the calorie thing for now! Tammy:D

Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK

You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

Thank you but I have been doing low calorie/low fat/ sice
the middle of April and lost 60 lbs and went from a size 22
to a 13/14 and some 15's lol! So yes it does work I am starting
to think low carb or no carbs diet fail because you feel ran down
and tired if you don't get enough ''good' carbs I tried ADKINS a long
time ago and I actually missed the good carbs such as heathy treats
and apples bannanahs wheat bread for sandwhichs any lean cuisine
meals ect you can't have on ADKINS and that caused me to fail.On
a 1200 calorie diet they pretty much have everything I like just a
healthy version of it!
Thanks for your opinion but so far low calorie-fat dieting is working
just worrying about the plateau what to do?TAMMY

Personally I think this diet is very bad.

1. It's horrible on your colon. You need fiber.

2. It's horrible on your kidneys, first from the byproducts of using protein as the primary fuel, but also from the byproducts of all the meat being re-absorbed into your body through your colon walls.

3. When you are that starved for carbohydrates, your muscles can do the same thing as if you were protein deficient, in that your body can break down lesser used muscles in your body to get what it needs to rebuild. So yes, you can lose muscle.

4. Can you say "cholesterol"?

Lol I agreee I looked at the date I poted this 3 months
ago,I have since then learned what's healthy and what's not!
Thanks for opinion at the time I saw that on a website and
was curious how it worked?Tammy:)

Woman dies from Meat & Egg Diet!!! Read all about it.

I'm not sure if you for some reason think I'm trying to start something with you or not, but regardless, yes, I've seen multiple people switch over to almost nothing but meat and eggs for much longer than a week, with the idea that this was the proper way to do the "low carb" thing and that it was good for them. It is truly no laughing matter, quite sad actually, especially since the #1 killer in America is heart disease, often due to a diet high in meat and eggs. :(

Go my girlfriend I am so glad to have back up on atkins not being BAD like a lot of people think!~ And actually you only do the meat and eggs a week but we do have good carbs like veges we are allowed to have on atkins! There are stages and you get the good carbs but The first phase helps get rid of all the years of build up of fat and bad stuff in your body! There are a lot of misconceptions and yes we eat healthy no carbs also chicken breast turkey bacon the choices are amazing!

also i need to find it but in the news a couple of weeks ago the studies showed that low carb does not harm woman it actually helps I will search for it!

Nov. 8, 2006 — Americans have been debating the risks and benefits of different diets, specifically low-fat versus low-carbohydrate diets, even decades before the Atkins Diet and the South Beach Diet swept the nation.

Now, a new study has answers to an old question: Is a low-carbohydrate diet bad for the heart?

Related: Health Problem? Concern? Ask Us.

No, suggests new research published in today's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, and it's not any worse than a diet high in carbs.

The study, which involved more than 82,000 women from across the country over 20 years, confirms what previous research has suggested: Low-carbohydrate diets do not increase heart-disease risk.

Even though low-carb dieters might tend to eat more fats and other heart-unhealthy foods, over time their risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) did not exceed that of their counterparts who instead consumed a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.

The study's researchers say the results suggest that low-carb diets are at least on equal footing with other forms of dieting when it comes to heart health.

"This study suggests that neither a low-fat dietary pattern nor a typical low-carbohydrate dietary pattern is ideal with regards to risk of CHD. Both have similar risks," said study researcher Tom Halton, a former doctoral student in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.

"However, if a diet moderately lower in carbohydrates is followed, with a focus on vegetable sources of fat and protein, there may be a benefit for heart disease," Halton said.

Backing the findings are data from three trials published in 2003, which showed that low-carb diets do not increase cardiovascular risk factors.

In those studies, the Atkins Diet, a bellwether regimen on the low-carb scene, was compared to a different diet emphasizing a low intake of fat and cholesterol.

The results? Those on the Atkins Diet actually had greater improvements in insulin sensitivity, HDL (good) cholesterol and triglyceride levels than did the low-fat, low-cal dieters.

The findings, however, come with a caveat common to many of the other studies on high-protein, low-carb diets. In short, don't go crazy on the red meat.

There is some of it but i think it depends on the person whether they get bad health from it because it is a lifestyle change and if you choose healthy lean than your doing it and your results are faster so actually it depends on the individual!
