Meal Replacments

I'm looking into buying some meal replacements.

Before we start I want you all to know I already take multivitamins and whey protein after my workout everyday. So, I don't need something that is going to help me with muscle gaining as much. I would like something that will fill me up and cure my cravings.

I have searched around a little and found out this:

This seems to be a very healthy meal replacement shake. Now, would you recommend this? Would taking this help me loose weight? Would this fill me up?

It says to replace 2 meals a day with this. If I was to buy it- on a weight loss diet, would I talk a normal breakfast. Then take this at noon, then maybe again for dinner? I wouldn't know where to fit it in. Especially, with the 5-6 small meal a day rule.

try whole, raw milk, with monster milk. Delicious, satisfying, and provides a long, steady stream of protein, glutamine, CLA, and a lot of other great benefits

I use 2 different meal replacement shakes. If I have the time, I create fruit/veggie smoothies with almond milk, non-fat yogurt, banana, frozen berries, frozen spinach, peanut butter and protein powder. ~300 cal and filling! If I am on the run, my buddy turned me on the shakeology. I just have a shaker bottle with water, pour the powder in and BAM! I have a meal.

Whatever you choose, I am a big fan of meal replacements. Low calories, tasty and filling. Great combo!

The one golden rule is: no high-fat dairy products. This means no eggs, double cream, full-cream milk, butter or full-fat cheese.
This is because dairy products are mucus-forming which means they encourage cells and arteries to become clogged. Only low-fat yogurt and quark are allowed, and even these should only be eaten occasionally. Dairy foods also tend to contain added hormones and chemicals, which encourage the build up of fats. Instead, you should buy plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, preferably organically grown.

I'd love to see a reference for the science behind these statements. Not sayin' you're wrong, but I'm always skeptical of good food / bad food claims. My going in assumption is food is food and eaten in moderation, most everything is okay.

A huge part of food cravings originate from a psychological basis. I think having weekly or even fortnightly booked in "treats" or a little of what you want in moderation will do you more favors.

Other food cravings come from your body lacking something. Some dieters find they crave carbohydrates alot when they are dieting as the body is aware it has less carbs and or calories then normal, the body doesn't understand or like the idea of a diet so it sends out strong cravings for a replacement of the carbs. Once you get your head around this and can remind yourself of this when its happening it can reduce some of the strain.

Meal replacements, I don't care what anyone else things, cannot replace a meal. The nutrients are powdered down and are not utilised by the body in the same way. I wouldn't trust my body to be able to get the same quality of nutrients from what I eat. For 6 months I ate meal replacement bars when I had previously been eating fruit, vegetables and meat/fish. After about 6 months I was really feeling yuck. I didn't 'click' it was the protein/meal replacements I was eating until I swapped my diet over- first thing I noticed was the skin on my face being much more radient and less dry and spotty. I also found my energy levels improving, I have no idea about my weight as I have't been keeping tabs. I do not trust meal replacements to get my the nutrients I need.

Definitely Diet

Yes I totally agree with HeatherSchead it's a diet issue. When I started really closely monitoring my diet and making sure I was taking the best vitamins, and the right ones for me, I lost almost all cravings. I was amazed at this initially as I always thought I had to be eating all the time because I was active. Not so. Hookup with a nutritionist or do some research on vitamins. Most of the ones in the store are crap. I have found the ones from Beyond Health work best. Check them out. Also I have heard that Perque has excellent vitamins. I'm interested to know if this info helps you.
