Hello All,

I originally signed up about 1 -2 yrs. ago in hope of loosing weight. Well......... I haven't lost anything, instead ended up gaining about 10 lbs.I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Currently I'm about 160 lbs. 5"8', my goal is to be 130 lbs.
My biggest problem is staying motivated, I always feel like saying "I'll start tomorrow" and never do but always repeat the same thing.

The worst problem is that my gym is my condo building, and I'm still not going :(

Today's motivation came after my husband took a picture of me and I realized that I not only have a muffin top, but I also have a Shar Pei back :(

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why can't you stay motivated?

99 percent of the 'struggle' if that's what we're calling it - is having your head in the right place to get to where you want to be?

Are you setting your expectations too high? calorie count too low?

why can't you stay on track?

What Mal asks....

I've never understood this.

You say you want to lose weight, so why not just take the necessary action? I'm not downing you.... I'm genuinely curious here.

Is it that the desire to be lazy is stronger than the desire to be fit?

I mean, if I'm hungry, I eat.

If I'm bored, I find something/someone to do.

If want to know something, I read a book.

If I want to change my physique, I follow a proper diet/exercise routine.

I think the answer to my questions, even if you know it or not, has a lot to do with how, where, and when you are focusing your attention and thoughts.

I really know that it is a difficult task to stay motivated and to stick to the diet you decided to do. Maybe you just haven't found the perfect diet yet. Which diets have you been doing during the last years? And didn't you get any support? What about your husband? Didn't he appreciate what you were doing?

One of te things I've learned over the past 20 or so years... is that diets do not work.. at least not in the long term - diets might help you drop 10 lbs but unless you're willing to commit to a total lifestyle change - those 10lbs are not going to stay off.. and a lifestyle change, while the weight might come off slower - it should stay off.

Right, again agree with Mal.

We see time and time again people come in here saying things like, "I was here 2 years ago and lost a bunch of weight. Now I'm heavier than when I started and really hoping for some motivation to get this weight off again!"

Big, big problem here.

These people don't have their perceptions, thoughts, expectations, goals, etc set right at all. All these things having to do with the mind are off.... or worse yet, completely left out of the planning.

That said, all they focus on is the number on the scale coupled with a short-term perspective. Once they start seeing results and reaching goals, they get comfortable b/c their minds weren't conditioned for lifestyle changes. Rather they were conditioned to see a specific number on the scale.

And when this is the case, and when this number is reached, most, if not all will revert back to their old ways.

From my perspective it looks like insanity..... but it's not. It's just poor planning and lack of understanding.

Hey Butterfly! I used to be the same way, 100 percent of the time. I'd wake up in the morning and HATE the way my pants fit and the way I looked in the mirror.

But eventually it will come down to where you're SO tired of it you want to do something about it. You have to start because you WANT to, for you. If you do it for someone else, or for any other reason, it won't work. I tried so many times to lose weight, but couldn't because I wasn't all in it.

This site helped me a lot, actually. I looked around, read some stories and saw that it IS possible to do it. And I started and it's gone well so far. It's not impossible, I promise!! Just remember a journey of 1,000 miles starts with a single step. Go to the gym in your building each morning for one week. You'll feel so much better after that, you'll WANT to go (at least I did.)

Give it a shot...nothing to lose but pounds!! :hurray:

I would agree with you as well, but most people start with a diet anyways-me too. You are frustrated and you want to get rid of some kilos as soon as possible. And if you change your lifestyle the kilos will come off very slowly, but with a diet it is often much faster. So I have decided to do a diet first and to change my lifestyle after having lost some kilos. I hope it works :)

Some (all) of your comments helped! I'm back and determined to loose the weight.

I started excercising on Monday. My plan is to do 3x a week the first 2 weeks and then increase by 1 day. and 1 hour each time. I did 30 mins. elliptical and crunches. Followed with the same routine today. Food-fish, chicken, eggs in the morning, lots of veggies, baby carrots, celery, etc.Water,Water,Water no tea or coffee. NO SUGAR. I Hope my plan works out ;) I would LOVE to loose 5 lbs. this month or by the end of the first week in march.

I know but that's my problem, I will not drink coffee without milk or some sugar/splenda or tea without sugar/splenda.I'd rather just put it aside ofr a while.

I'm pretty new to this forum, so here is my (possibly unhelpful) advice: don't make it an "everything or nothing" kind of plan. I think that sets most people up for failure (I know it does me atleast). Don't get me wrong, I think its great to have some goals each week or month as far as exercise/eating/weight loss -- but the problem tends to occur when you (not specifically) say I am going to work out x times a week, only eat chicken and veggies, only drink water and give up sugar, etc . . . and then you eat a cookie and go "oh noes! I'm so bad, I've ruined my whole diet, oh well I give up". I suspect that the whole food/guilt equation leads a lot of people to pack on the pounds.
So if you like your coffee in the morning with a little milk and sugar, go for it. A teaspoon of sugar is never going to make you gain weight. Now, if you are ordering double latte frappe mocha whatevers from Starbucks, that's a different story . . .
So start exercising. Clean up your diet, but also eat intuitively - if you want a piece of cake, eat it, enjoy, and move on. I honestly think the reason why most people have a problem "starting" is because they take that all or none approach.
Good luck! And sorry if this seems like a bit of rant. . .

^oh not at all. I think you are very right about the "all or nothing" approach. I think I'm just so frustrated with the stupid 25 pounds I want to loose, and have had so many unsuccessful approaches, that' at this point I just want to do it. I make sure to post back as much as I can with the progress. I do plan to definately go 3 x times a week. My gym is in my building! for about 1 hr. and then throw in 1 flex time if I can manage it.

YOU GO, GIRL!!! You can do this. Just do it sensibly! Check out what your caloric needs are per day in order to lose weight. Check out the calorie contents of what you are eating and drinking daily. Keep track. There is absolutely NO reason for you not to take charge of your life and your weight and reach your goals! YOU CAN DO IT!

Cheers
