hey y'all,

A short intro about me: I'm a 26 y/o Belgian and have been living in Central Africa for about 1,5 years now - so I sweat alot even without exercise (by the way does that help wih weight loss? :) )

I' getting married in August and this has finally motivated me to get myself into shape. I used to be quite sporty yet have let myself slide since university. I have a mostly sedentary desk job but do walk about 25 minutes each day to work.

on to the fitness:
I'm currently 106 kilos (according to some online calculator 231 lbs) for 1,84 meters, which I guess should be around 5"11. About 3 months ago I started paying more attention to what I was eating: no more potato chips, no more chocolate, and no more soda's (my 3 biggest nutrition vices).

my usual eating routine is as follows:

- I eat a bowl of cereals for breakfast and drink a ton of coffee (black, no milk or sugar ever)
- Either a regular size cheese sandwich (just bread and cheese-nothing else) for lunch -or no lunch sometimes when I’m facing deadlines, which unfortunately happens quite often
- a regular meal at dinner which I admit I didn't pay a huge attention to the calories (ie spaghetti, meat, fish, potatoes, etc). Since I started working out after work I eat dinner quite late (8-9pm)
I drink a whole lot of water throughout the day.

I have lost about 5 kilos doing this for 3 months, yet decided to up the stakes.

The past 5 weeks I have started working out quite intensely, while keeping the same diet. I have worked out 4-5 times a week from Monday to Friday after work without fail. I usually do an hour or more of cardio (cycle and elliptical - using around 1000 calories according to the displays), and some 20 minutes weights. Despite this much increased physical activity, I have not lost a single pound since I started working out 5 weeks ago, while my eating habits are the same as those which allowed me to shed the 5 kilos earlier. I do notice my clothes fitting a tad more loosely than before, but nothing spectacular.

Some people say I'm not losing weight because i'm gaining muscle while eliminating fat, but i'm not entirely convinced of that.

I realize this is a long term process and I don't expect overnight miracles. I came looking on these nice forums seeking some advice to help me get fit and in top shape for the wedding.

Thanks for reading my wall of text and bring on the advice! :p

Hello SteveC, welcome to the Forum. If you fish around the Forum you may find what you're looking for. Reading the Stickies has oodles of tips. I found for myself that starting a diary here also helps quite a bit, people can pass info back and forth between one another. ;)

I wish you all the best on your weightloss/getting to a healthier you journey.
Congratulations on your engagement!!

Take Care :seeya:

hey steve,
welcome to the forum...i just wanted to mention that sometimes there'll be good weightloss weeks and sometimes bad ones...just a few days ago i was going through a similar situation where i'd been constantly loosing kgs then weighed in at the same thing daily for almost 7days, it was very depressing because i knew i was eating right and exercising, but i didn't give up, i kept strong and just 2-3days ago the scale started moving down again which i'm glad about.

so for now all i can suggest is hang in there and i'm sure you'll continue to see some progress soon. all the best xoxo
