maybe not such a good idea?

Hi All

First time here on this website forum.

I am just getting back into a exercise regime. I workout 5x a week. I do about 40-45 minutes of cardio (elipitcal) and then some weight training. Maybe 15 minutes worth.
Someone told me about this 'breakfast meal' good for people who workout.
It is instant oatmeal mixed and peanut butter added. To this I add a solid dollop of vanilla yogourt. While it is very tasty I am wondering if I am fooling myself in thinking this is low cal.
I might be answering my own question, but I need to put this out there anyway. I have not lost any weight. In fact my jeans are getting tighter. This might be due, in part to my bum and thighs getting firmer and sitting higher up on my leg is it not. And could this 'meal' which I eat at least 2x a day be fattening?
I have been replacing other food groups for this one 'meal' over the past month.
What are some better choices? I am feeling healthy and all. But I also feel bloated almost all the time.
Someone, please reply, OK?

thanks,

Total calories for the day are what contribute to weight gain or loss...

Get yourself an account at and ACCURATELY measure your portions and keep track of your calories and other nutrients for each day. Peanut butter is generally good for you, provided it's the trans fat free variety, but it's not low calorie and you have to watch portion sizes.

Hello and welcome to the forum!!

Good luck and make sure to let one of us mods know if you have any questions :)

You need to add up how many calories the meal is and figure out how many you are bringing in on a daily basis.

Sounds like you are calorie ignorant (it sounds very high calorie to me, peanut butter is a worst offender heh). But that's okay, because that can be fixed with education.

Most people who start working out do not burn a significant amount of calories and thus have to have their weight loss come about through diet. It takes a while before you can get the conditioning to burn 500-600 calories a workout session (and often the people who can do it don't need to, a bit of a vicious truth).
