Matt's Girl's Diary

Matt's Girl

New member
I will compose a proper introduction post later, I want to get up and running with this diary in case I forget what I have done today!

Basically, I am new to weightloss having been quite happy with my UK size 12-14 frame (I am 5' 8") for the last goodness knows how many years. Yesterday however I went shopping for some new clothes and was shocked to find nothing to fit me in my usual sizes. Medical issues and a major change of lifestyle this year has meant that the weight has crept on and I didn't even notice. My clothes must have stretched with me or something!

So, here goes. I don't know my weight and I am going to try one month being super healthy before I even think about getting on the scales as I think itwould depress me rather than motivate me. Unlike friends, I have never weighed myself on a regular basis and think this was (at least part of) the reason why I have never had hangups about my weight before KWIM?

So, here goes...

Day 1

Exercise:
20 minutes gym (various)
20 minutes walk (just about to go... will walk quickly!)

Food:
Breakfast - Large M&S fruit salad, coffee
Lunch - Bowl home-made chicken and vegetable soup , pint of water
Afternoon - Brunchettas snack (129 calories!), coffee
Dinner - Poached haddock and vegetables , coffee

Glad to be here! Hope everyone is having a great day!

:newbie:

Hiya
I'm a UK-er too :)
I think not weighing yourself is a good idea for now if you don't wanna get depressed but I am sure that you look great anyway - I think size 12/14 on a tall lady is a perfect size.
I'm a size 16 and 5'7'' and aiming for a size 10/12 (but more 12 because I like curves!) but unlike you I weigh myself everyday and it does get depressing if I haven't lost anything for a couple of days so good choice you've made I think :D
What I have noticed is if I have a jug of peach or lemon barley by my side all day (I am on study leave for A levels atm so I am revising at the computer/desk all day so it's easy to have a jug of drink with me) then I can drink it throughout the day and not feel hungry as much because it has flavour and it is quite filling between meals instead of a snack. And it's only 10 cals per 250 mls :)
Good luck in being healthy :D Sounds like you are doing really well so far :D

Thanks Karmann. :waving:

I will try the jug of drink, I too am at home studying - older than you though, I'm a "mature student" (charming name!) at uni - and expect I will be chained to my desk for most of the rest of the year writing my thesis.

I have just bought fresh fish and asparagus for dinner (although my other half wants chips with his!)

Day 2

Exercise:
20 minutes walk
Couple of hours dancing!!!

Food:
Breakfast - Cereal bar thingy, coffee
Lunch - Cheese salad
Dinner - Pita bread with vegetables
Later - Vodka and diet coke

Gosh, looking at yesterday, I think I drink too much coffee :blush5:

Eek yesterday I drunk 6 cups of tea throughout the day, not very good and I was up til 3am :| Haha.
Which cereal bar did you have? I am never too keen on them, the healthy ones are always too dry or boring for me but they're good to have as a quick breakfast on the go so it's a pain.

Hey, I'm Anke. I'm 20 and am size 16 also 5"8. I'm going for a 10 or 12, I'll see when I get there.

I also don't obsess with the scale, to keep my sanity, hehe. An hey, being tall we can eat quite a bit, wooo!

It was a Nature Valley Crunchy Granola - 194 calories - and actually now I read the label, not as healthy as some! They were giving them out at the station last night so my boyfriend got a couple on the way home :D I grabbed it because I was in a rush this morning! I had to go to the doctors (I am having some hormone problems and need regular blood tests) and he laughed at me when I said I didn't want to know my weight!

Im guessing your other half is Matt? :)

wow lucky to be tall! , i always like tall people.

Hi, gosh you have done so well with your weight loss! Yes, Matt is my other half, how did you guess? lol!

How long do you think it will take you based on what you have lost so far? I am new to this and so do not have a clue about how long it will take me to get to a size I am happy with.

I am so glad I found this board. I'm a late night snacker and it will give me something to do instead of going to the kitchen!

Day 3

Exercise:

Food:
Breakfast - The other cereal bar thingy, coffee
Mid morning - Apple, diet coke
Lunch - Pita bread with salad
Afternoon - yoghurt drink
Dinner - Baked potato with creamy cheese filling (at someone else's house so I didn't know what was in it. Tasted very fattening though!); and a (tiny!) bowl of ice cream
and (a tiny!) bowl of ice cream

I can't believe that I ate all those times today - I think it was because I had nothing much to do. (I often forget to eat when I am busy.)
Hmmm... perhaps I ought to start counting calories properly as I am sure today added up even though everything was relatively healthy.

Well, let's see, in 6 weeks I lost 13.7 pounds, so that is about 2.2 pounds a week.

I weigh 194.5 now, and my goal is 165 pounds.

I still need to lose 29.5 pounds. By my calculations I should be at goal in 13 and a half weeks. That means the first week of September. And that is "Spring Day" in South Africa... just in time for bikinis!!!

Ankebuzz - that's brilliant. And a great incentive to have a goal date to aim for.

As I'm new to this I am learning as I go along. For instance, I was out all day yesterday and now cannot remember everything I ate - I did have a ham and salad sandwich for lunch and I was about to have a packet of crisps with it when a friend mentioned that I had said I was going on a diet - I had completely forgotten! . This is going to be my biggest problem, REMEMBERING! After a lifetime of eating what I want with few consequences, this has come as a shock!!!

The other thing is that I have no idea of the calories or whatever in some foods. I am not as bad as my sister who believes pizza is a health food ("because there is lots of protein in the cheese" ) but we had a buffet type thing for dinner last night with falafels and kofta and stuffed vine leaves and I had NO IDEA of the calories in them. I tried to look it up on the internet when I got in but the recipes vary so much you can't really tell. I think it may be a lot though :smash: but they are so small!!!

How do you cope with eating out? Just stick to salad and things you know?

I am away for a couple of days, so will have to keep a notebook if I can't get to this site to log what I have had. The bad news is that I will be at the mercy of college caterers (I am doing some research at another college) unless I take my own picnic type meals but I don't know if there will be time to prepare them. The good news is the place has a gym!

Back on Wednesday - hope everyone has a good 2 days :waving:

Whoops forgot to put today's meals (so far) down!

Breakfast - Muesli, coffee
Lunch - Cottage cheese, apple, celery
Dinner - haven't a clue what it will be but am not having anything else until I get there just in case!

I'd find eating salads regularly would get boring... Never be afraid to ask how things are prepared when eatng out -and ask for adjustments to be made (this tends to be easier at non-chain resturants but even some chains will try to accommodate)

When I go out I swap the usual side fries for rice/ potato /veggies and I try get grilled chicken (or normal and eat it without the skin).

It gets easier, I promise!

Thanks for the advice everyone :cheers2:

I'm not even going to try and add what I ate over the last 2 days because I only wrote down one meal in my notebook and then kept forgetting to do it! I did eat healthily though - luckily I do like salads and I have discovered the convenience of Ryvita!

Think I will start again with my diary now I am a bit clued up.

1 pear
Coffee

Lunch
Green salad  with small poached haddock fillet (107 calories!)

Afternoon
4 x Ryvita and cottage cheese and tomato (starving all of a sudden! :D )

Dinner
Roasted vegetables

Exercise
3 miles walk (walked rather than took tube into town!)

Breakfast
2 x toast (Weightwatchers bread which is really odd and full of air!)

Mid morning
Coffee

Lunch
Ramen noodles

Mid afternoon
Fruit salad

Dinner
Curry on salad rather than rice - which was surprisingly tasty!
Several small poppadoms (only 37 calories each!!)

Only one coffee today! I am trying to treat coffee as a treat to have when out rather than a habit every couple of hours! I am drinking plenty of water though. Might start putting down my water intake to remind myself to drink it. I cannot remember having anything else today but it doesn't seem a lot when written down. I wonder whether I should start looking at portion sizes/more exact calories now I am getting into it...

Oh, and today I felt hungry for the first time in ages! I rarely feel hungry, I don't think I do enough exercise on a daily basis to feel hungry!

3 vodkas has plenty of calories :D

Mind you, you cant restrict yourself too much or deny yourself too much otherwise you will end up doing the binge thing (or going nuts!).

Though i have to admit, i dont drink or eat as many muffins as i used to, i definatly still have them! :D

I suffered the next day for the vodkas, so that was my punishment! :D

Matt says that when other girls drink they may sleep with strangers or dance on the tables... whereas I eat carbs! :smilielol5:

I love your bike. I used to cycle everywhere (I don't drive) until I moved to the city and then daren't because of the traffic. It is those lifestyle changes that mean weight can slowly creep up I suppose. Goodness, I just looked at your progress pics (I am managing to find my way around the site now) - you are amazing!

Exercise
Not a lot - loads of housework though!

Breakfast
2 x WW toast
Pear
Cottage cheese
Tea
(250 calories)

Lunch
Chicken salad sandwich with extra chicken salad!
Pear

Dinner
Pita bread with salad, tuna, usual stuff.

Too much bread today - boring boring. Will have to plan better!

Well an unexpected turn put paid to my eating practically anything the last couple of days! The return of some medical problems has meant I have had bedrest and lots of fluids and that's about it. My skin is looking horrid from lack of fresh air and a default detox! Oh well, if I feel better tomorrow I might continue with a real detox as I'm halfway there!

Hope everyone else is fine and enjoying the sunshine (those that have it!).
