Manual Treadmills?

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone had ever used a manual treadmill and could tell me if they work well or not. My family used to have a motorized treadmill but it just stopped working and we got rid of it a few months later. I'm thinking about getting one again but I saw that the manual ones are a lot cheaper. I really don't need all the fancy extra stuff that comes along with a motorized one. I just want something I can get a good workout on. Any advice would be appreciated!

What's your definition of work well?

What are you hoping to accomplish?

any equipment will work over time if you use it regularly, but there are lots of things you can do without having something take up space...

In my opinion, you'll get a more effective and cheaper workout by taking your butt outside and going for a walk...

I have looked into these and have considered buying one on several occasions.
The reason I would buy one is that i have issues keeping a constant speed that motorized treadmills require. I feel that a manual one that is essentially a hampster wheel that you control the pace to would be a great thing for me.

In my opinion it doesnt matter what you buy as long as you use it with regualrity and enjoy using it.

Maleficent - Yeah, I know it would be a better workout to get my butt outside for walks, which do. I have dizzy spells though and I was thinking of a treadmill so I can get a decent walk inside so I don't have to go on a walk, get dizzy, and have to do a long walk back from wherever I am at the time. I would just be able to get off the treadmill and take breaks here at the house when I need it. I do enjoy the outdoors much much more though. ;)

Bigguy - I agree that having more control over how fast or slow you're going with a manual could be better. I will definitely be checking into them more!

Thanks for your opinion guys. :)

:waving:Hi Nikki! I have lost all of my weight with a manual treadmill (and Weight Watchers - but mainly the 'mill!). My hubby picked it up at an auction for $5 and it has certainly been worth more than that! It is old and rickety and narrow, so I have to hang on to the rails at all times. To change the incline would require getting off and moving a "key" thingy from one slot to another - so I just don't. From the day I started, I have simply kept it set on the steepest incline. Initially I could just walk about 20 mins. Then I walked through a 1 hr tv show and ran during the commercials. Now I run for the whole time, and during commercials I jump off (carefully:blush5:) and do my calisthenics and light weights.

I would love not having to hold onto any railings, and it might be nice to vary the incline - but I can surely recommend a manual treadmill over NO treadmill at all! If I didn't have it right in my own basement, I just know I would not have been able to accomplish this weight loss. I won't run on ice or in the rain or cold, and I hate going to a public gym - so you can see that my old, rickety, cheap 'mill was a wonderful investment! My hubby does lots of things wrong, but he sure got this one right!:beating: I have thanked him many times.

Good luck
ABBA
