Ill tell ya one thing, you already have the right attitude! Do it for yourself! With that being said, we need to know a few things about you to start you on the right track.

1. age
2. weight
3. What kind of goals have you set for yourself (weight loss, muscle gain, endurance)?

im 15. i dont know my weight but i am very overweight. i intend to lose weight through cardiovascular exercise) but weight train so as to keep "buff" meaning little excess skin and stretch marks.

OK, first thing is find out approximately how much you weigh. That way we can calculate how many calories you need to consume to maintain, and lose fat.

I hate to break it to ya, but calories are the measure of fat loss. The easiest way to do what you want is to monitor calories going in and balancing it with what you burn. Its something you have to know.

In order to burn one pound of fat, you have to create a caloric deficit over a period of time equalling 3500 calories. Without knowing how many calories you eat a day, you can not be sure that your creating that deficit.

just remember to drink water during workouts and when doing weight lifting, observe proper form because you might injure yourself.
