Well hello to everyone that is reading this and thank you for taking the time to read this
so i was wondering if i should start this in the corny way of "this is the first day of the rest of my life" or the "Day 1" but to be honest this could be my 50th day one, i have tried allsorts and i have a carb and chocolate addiction, i am 22st and a very out going person but under it all, i am so afraid of evryone and everything, i cant find clothes to fit and that is my biggest problem or when they fit it costs a lot

i am not follwoing any diet, i am just trying to eat healthy and i will inform you of my progress and any recipies i find

good luck to us all

Hey and welcome to the forum! Writing/typing a food log on here can be beneficial as you can see where you are going wrong and how many calories you are consuming! Good luck and let us know if you need anything xx

Hi Lynsey

Welcome. I think most people here over a certain age a lot of experience with dieting and diets. You are not alone.

I also have an addiction. You say carbs, I say sugar. So i'm quitting sugar and eating healthy. I don't mean fruit, mind you. (some people seem to think i would include fruit when I say sugar.) No, i mean any food that has sugar added so that it's sweet and moreish and hard to stop eating. So that would include chocolate. But not carbs. I like my carbs - pasta, rice, bread, beans. I don't eat much meat so i rely on these foods to keep me going.

Anyway lets not get into a debate about words. I am sure we mean the same thing. I am sure we have much the same dietary issues.

If you are interested, read my diary. Its called "I'm aiming for 59kg" You may think its that much easier because I was not particularly overweight when i started this diet. But since i've been on this forum, i've come to think that so long you are not diabetic, then its just as hard for me as it is for anyone else or you. Only I may make it look easy. That might be because in some ways I do have some things easier. I don't have a husband and kids to feed and worry about. So i can eat what I want and don't have to be tempted by what i feed them if i had to cook. I don't work either so my time is my own and my life is now largely stress free. I also have dealt with my depression so its not bothering me too much at the moment.

I know all that could change in a moment though. I could get some hormonal craving and go and eat myself silly. This is a possibility at least once a month. Last month I gave in. I expect I will do so again. I have never been able to resist that sort of craving. But I am not going to give in too easily even so. And helping me out, I think, is not tempting myself daily with little treats. I am weaning myself off the taste for sweet foods.

What i do here, is write a daily food diary. I must say i have found this very beneficial doing it here in public. Being aware that others may scrutinise what i do, i try a bit harder to do the right thing. Its the first time i've ever done a public food diary. I think its a really good thing. I also share my recipes on my page.

Being determined to eat healthy is the best way to start out. I hope you can keep your determination strong. I am sure its the way to get back to health and fitness. Not just for you but for all of us. And I am sure its the only way to maintain it in the long term too. Good luck.

i think it is hard when you are on your own though as i hate to cook for one :( my mum makes it hard for me though as all she ever wants to talk about is how i am doing and what i have eaten, she says i am not allowed chocolate but then leaves it hanging around.

the thing i need advice with is snacks lol
i need to know what is good for snacking on as i have a massive sweet tooth

well i got weighed today and i have lost 4lbs the biggest loss i have had in a long time
i am planning on going out with my work mates at the end of the month and i want to lose some more lbs just as a confidence thing more than a i want to look great and pull lol

so lets see how it goes

good luck to you all
xxxxx

4lbs is awesome :) Do you like veggies cut up into little bits with low-fat cream cheese? That's what I try to snack on. Orrrrr if you have a sweetie tooth then apple with peanut butter? You can still have sweets just in moderation. Like if you'd normally have 2 slices of cake as a snack, just have a few bites and then a huge glass of water--Chances are the craving will go as soon as you've had a few bites. Or instead of milk chocolate, try dark chocolate :)

Go easy with the peanut butter. It's very high fat, high in salt and easy to eat half a jar if you don't watch out. Or even just a tablespoon.

I am trying not to snack but if I was you because you want to lose a fair bit of weight, i think you should have something like a tomato sandwich with no butter or margerine and you can afford to eat more than me and still lose weight. I mean if you eat this, by comparison to what you might normally eat, this is still pretty low in calories right? I mean this is the sort of snack you would eat if you were quite hungry, not just bored.

If you were eating from boredom, then go for plain celery and carrots, fruit and vegies. I know. It sounds dull but it is something you could eat a lot of before it had a negative effect on your diet. Make a bowl of steamed vegies and put a tiny dash of olive oil on top, and sprinkle with ground black pepper. Sometimes i've had this in a cafe and really enjoyed it. I wouldn't bother at home though myself. Vegies that go well in thsi sort of thing are broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beans, asparagus, squash. You should feel that you can eat fresh vegies till the cows come home. (not potato though apparently) so long as they are not ruined with lots of butter, cheese, or anything rich. But plain vegies are what's called "free foods" in some spheres.

Whatever you choose to eat, study the label and see how many calories and fat are in it. Fat has i think 4 times the calories of carbohydrate foods and proteins. So you eat less but get a lot more calories.

Have a glass of milk. But avoid flavoured milk.

Have an egg sandwich with no butter or mayonnaise or anything like that. Try it with a bit of dijon mustard or seeded mustard perhaps. Use only wholegrain, wholemeal, rye or multigrain breads. Try to avoid eating white bread.

Its a bit hard to say without knowing what you normally eat, what you are eating on your diet, and how many calories you are supposed to be eating each day.

Fruit is good too of course.

A cup of vegetable soup? Preferably home made and not high in calories or salt.

i have very supportive friends but it is so nice to have people on here i can talk to and know were i am coming from.

i do have one fear about losing the weight and that is i do not want to lose my personality when i become thinner?
does anyone have this concern?

I second the recommendations about fruit and vegetables for losing weight- kiwi fruit are really good for my sweet tooth, or apples, or plums, or oranges. Vegetables are lower in calories but not so good for the sweet tooth (will take away the feeling of wanting to nibble though).

I see no reason why your personality would change through weight loss- you'll be the same person (as your personality and such is contained in your brain, not your fat cells), just smaller.

Gap

well today i went to my GAP (Getting Active on Perscription) and it went very well i am for the first time very excited about fitness

they teach you everything about fitness and make a routine for you to use the equipment
it looks very cool and i was nervous when i went and it was full of old people, but they were so funny

it was nice to see and talk to people who feel the same about fitness and weghit loss

any info i get and any hints and tips i will put on here but if you live in the uk you may want to talk to your doctor about it as so far so good

i am going back on wednesday so we shal see how it goes

hello

Well i went to the gym and it was har work even just getting there as it was after a 24 hour shift at work, but i knew if i could get there after work i could get there anytime :) i did have a rough morning that day so i was ready to work out, i did 5 mins on the cross trainer, 15 reps on the weghits, the bike for ten mins, then some more weghits and to finish 10 mins fast walking on the tred mill and to cool down some tennis. it was so much fun and i did not feel self consciousand i seem to be making some good friends :) i would suggest this gap to anyone who whats to do fitness, my group has about 5 people in and on is my age the otheres are a lot older but they are very funny and very nice.

i cant wait to go back :)

I don't have an iPhone, but FitDay, which is recommended a lot around here, appears to have an application for the iPhone. I'd probably wait for someone else to show up who has more experience of smart phones to tell you about that sort of thing though.
