Lurker turned Poster!

Hi everyone,

I joined this forum close to a year ago, but this is my first post!
I've done a lot of lurking and reading, but today I decided I may as well become more involved to hold myself more accountable. A little bit on my story: I'm a 19-year-old student, and I've been overweight for I'd say about all my life. I've never been obese or close, but a little more than chubby. It never kept me from being athletic; I played two varsity sports in high school, but it never made me lose the weight.

I'm 5'7", and in high school (as I can only vaguely recall) I started out around 165 pounds, but after a 5-week language homestay program before my senior year I gained about 10, and never took it off. I started college last fall at about 180, and during that first freshman semester gained about 7.5. Then I saw a picture taken of me during the holidays and saw how I looked! From there I knew I had to change. During the spring semester I lost about 20 pounds through diet and exercise, and then steadied out around 168. I looked and felt much better!

During the summer I was in Europe for about six weeks, and I had a fairly normal lifestyle, not focusing on my weight, but I walked everywhere and fortunately didn't gain any. However, this fall it started to creep back up when I got back to school due to poor habits. I hit a one-day maximum of 175 about a week ago, and decided it was time to get back on the wagon!

Right now I'm down to 169.2. My short-term goals are getting to 160 by mid- to late January, and depending on how that goes, to 155 or 150 by spring break in early March. I've mapped out varying schedules of losing 1-2 pounds a week, so it's not too fast. Ultimately I'd like to be 145 by the end of the semester in early May, and 135 by the end of the summer, although I'm not 100% sure of my goal weight since I've never been that skinny!

Apologies for the long introduction, I just hope this post will make me more active on the forums. I may start a diary, but we'll see. Good luck to all!
