Lower Abdominals/Back

I'd like to tone up my lower abs and back area, but I don't really know where to start. When I do most core workouts, if feels like I'm only working my upper abs, so I try watching my form and fixing any problems there; hasn't really helped. Is there any KILLER lower ab/back workouts out there that anyone would like to share?

There are some really great exercises for that area, but the best way to reduce fat from that area is to do a mix of weights, cardio and clean eating. The only way to reduce fat from a specific area is to reduce overall body fat.

Here are 5 tips to help. The link in the tips will take you to a site that has ab exercises and descriptions.

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink a cup of water at each meal.

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. If you need more guidance or exercise ideas you can head over

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss.

if upper abs are dominant than do an upper ab exercise and straight away do core / lower ab exercise...the 1st exercise shood fatigue upper abs so that the core or lower abs have to work harder on the next set

Abs are for the most part all about the diet, I know guys who have ripped abs who don't even do ab isolated exercises they just do really good compounds so your key will lie in the kitchen for abs.

However strengthing these areas are very important so try to do compound movements with a couple of isolation movements. For example squats, deadlifts, and planks. Then throw in a leg lowering and extentions. Every strength training session i do I always do the first 3 and then vary my isolation movements for session to session. Its a great way to build up strength and stability in your core.

You should really concentrate on RDLs and modified Oly lifts since you're a thrower. These lifts will help with your lower back/posterior chain.

I believe the reason is that some guys have really ripped abs is because they carry a lot less bodyfat than woman. Unfair, huh? btw I just started the Billy Blanks Ab Bootcamp and shame on me for not checking out this dvd when I got his series. I have to be careful of the ab exercises I do due to my neck. A good portion of this tape involves standing ab routine. My tummy was in pain, deep in the core so I know it's working. I just checked it out due to a new series I have seen on infamercials. and some moves reminded me of kickboxing and Billy. I thought I'd pass this good info on for all to benefit.
