"low-cost" equipment (just the basics)

So I'm 18, a freshmen at a University, and I've been working out (weight and arobic) for about 20 weeks. But Soon classes will end, which means the end of my gym membership on campus. And I can't afford (not 100% true but I don't want to dig deep into my limited college funds) a gym membership at the local gym because it's one of those over-hyped over priced gyms, for summer alone it's going to cost me 250USD. So I need some suggestions on some low-cost equipment. I think I can find some dumbells for about 60USD that are those 'screwable' kind (change weights by attaching or removing little weights). As well as a bench also in 80 dollar range. And that will cover, chest, abs, arms, legs, but I can't think of anything for my back. I've been using a roman chair, and seriously love it, but they are rather pricey.

What can I do to work out my back, and what else do you guys think will provide the best buck for the workout?

is there a college in yur hometown that might honor your student ID?

Just a suggestion. Never hurts to ask.

if the chin up bar is adjustable you could do reverse bench presses!! which works back really well..

Chin up bars are cheap and fit in the doorway.

Or you can get the full pull up bar and dip station thing like I got for pretty cheap too.

I like the chinup bar idea, though I hope I can get my body into shape (in the next 6 weeks) to be able to do a full chinup. Currently I'm at 260lbs, and can only do 10reps at 240lbs. Also mreik, great idea with that reverse bench press, I never thought about it (nor heard about it), but it will work great on my back :).

If you're 260 i'd strongly recommend a daily run of a mile or so as part of your workout. Running, not jogging.

Otherwise, pushups, bench dips and lots of dumbbell work including 1-arm rows with the other arm on the bench.

If you're serious in the summer heat you'll get in to great shape.

The biggest problem is buying weights... 50lb dumbbells go for 50 bucks a piece. Yikes, it's just iron - it can't cost that much!

i received the adjustable dumbells about 3 years ago and they worked great.. not exactly sure how much they were but the go up to 60lbs, in 10lb increments.. maybe that'd be cheaper(not sure tho)

Most every part of your body can be worked with stuff around the house, plus dumbells.

As far as back goes, do military presses, standing rows, seated rows, and reverse flies with the dumbells. The amount of stabilization you require from free weights like that will add a lot to your muscle failure.
