Love handles

Your body will have areas that it will preferentially hold fat tissue. Love handles are a huge one. You really just need to lose more fat to see results.

So, my friend that I am working out with really wants to get rid of her love handles.. and truth be told I wouldn't mind trying to work on that area as well, so I figured I would come to hear what tips people may have around here. The only thing I can think of is those sideways sit ups, but I can't get them to feel quite right and I'm sure I'm doing them wrong.. plus if there is another approach, it would be really nice to hear it!

Okay, that may help for me, however, not for my other friend. She is a STICK and is just trying to lose maybe five pounds, but mostly tone. She runs about 40 minutes a day with two days a week off at the most..

Doesn't matter if shes a stick or not. The truth is just that its not possible to lose fat in one area, over another. To make things worse, belly and lovehandles are the last places to get reduced.

Not for a lot of people. Some people have genetic fat (I know thats not the proper term), so they might have huge calves or big upper arms, or lots of fat on their stomach.

The last place for fat to come off for me is my legs, when I first started losing weight it came off my stomach - so its different for everyone.

If your friend is a stick how does she have love handles? She could very well look like a stick but could have a high body fat % you have to remember.

Suppose that's true. Well I'll just tell her to keep up her running and weight training with me and that hopefully they'll start to fade away.

Yes, I realize that there are some cases where a person has a flat stomach and a huge behind, or any other combination. However, as a rule of thumb, stomach and love handles are GENERALLY the last places to go.

thats true for me.

when i start losing weight i notice it on my ankles and chest first and a bit on my weight and as i lose more my hips don't seem to budge at all.

Its so frustrating but im just one of the many people whose "love handles" come off last :(

I've been working out religiously 5 days a week since January 1st. I have lost about 7 pounds but when I look in the mirror, the changes are very minor (loss is in my face, boobs, and arms). My major problem area is my stomach/love handles. My husband says I need to do more sit ups.

I've just increased my cardio from 30 minutes a day to 45 minutes a day.

Mondays are my ab days which includes 3 sets of 25 crunches, 3 sets of 25 reverse crunches, 3 sets of 15 crunch twists.

Do I need to do more ab work or will increasing the cardio be good enough? If not, any suggestions for ab exercises and should I ad resistance to my ab workouts?

I have a wedding to go to in 3 weeks and would like to lose at least another 5 pounds by then.

It doesn't matter how many reps you do, it matters how well you do them. You could do a 125 and you still won't have a flat stomach. It may depend on what your eating you can't eat wrong and then exercise and think your going to get anywhere it goes both ways eat right and exercise you just might get results. Drink a lot of water and just watch your diet and exercise reguarly and you should have the stomach you want if you keep at it.

I'm 18 and ive had love handles for a couple of years now.

I am 6 ft tall and weigh 75 kg's i am not fat anywhere except for my waist (love handles).

At the start of the year on the 25th of Janurary i measured my waist to be 99.5cm, I measured myself again on the 25th of Feburary and i was down to 92cm around the waist. 1 month down the track on the 25th of March i measured myself at 91cm. I measured myself today and i was still 91cm.

I am at the gym 5 days a week doing weights every second day for my upper body and lower body also along with 10 mins on the bike, 25 mins running at 10k's and 10 mins on the cross train EVERYDAY. I am eating very healthy with burgen bread and salad with some chicken, eggs for breakfast and just some low carb snacks once or twice at night times.

What am i doing wrong. Someone please help these things are starting to give me the shits.

Thank you.

Sounds like you need to log exactly what you are eating and doing exercise wise somewhere like fitday.com and actually checking the following

a) you are getting enough protein, to create muscle you need at least 1g protein per lb of lean body mass
B) you are eating less calories than you are using. Though you might be eating "healthy" you still need a calorie deficit to loose weight.

Hey all,

I've been pretty dedicated to fitness for about 2 years now. In the past year I've learned a bunch about diet and exercising. The trouble spot is the love handles. I currently do cardio 3 times a week for approx 45-60 mins.
Also weight train 3 times a week.
Any pointers to ditch the love handles would be appreciated.

thanks.
