Love Handles On An Athlete

I am 30 and Male. I'm 5'10 and 160 pounds. I exercise 5 days a week and have been doing so for 7 months. I've been a generally athletic person my whole life. I do heavy cardio (running and swimming) and my heart is in excellent condition as I excersize at a heart rate of a 20 year old. I usually burn about 700 calories when I run. I also do yoga, and I weight train and do abdomenal work almost every day.

I am very fit except for some love handle action and a bit of gut in the front. I can't figure out what to do to get rid of it.

My diet is pretty good.

Any ideas.

Doing abdominal work everyday is unnecessary. Losing fat is primarily a diet issue, so I'd appreciate it if you included more about your diet than "It's pretty good."

Basically, you need a caloric deficit to lose fat. Eating natural or whole-grain stuff is good too, with minimal refined flour/sugars/etc and limited fat.

Thanks for your response. OK.
I am a vegetarian, except for fish.
I eat lots of vegetables and fruits, some nuts (trail mix). I don't drink anything but water and juice during the week.
I drink beer and other alcohol on the weekends.
I don't normally eat desserts or sweets, but I also don't decline them if the situation arises.
I would say that I am very moderate about my diet. Nothing extreme in either direction. I eat when I'm hungry and I don't overeat. I balance my carbs, protein and fat pretty well I think.

So, maybe it's just a matter of cutting out some of the calories each day?

There are two ways of having a calorie deficit - eating less, or doing more. In BFFM, Venuto recommends the latter, but the choice is yours, or you could do both. Eating too little for too long can put your body in "starvation mode."

Thanks. I spend 5 days a week, at least 1 hour to 1 and 1/2 hours every time a the gym. I don't know how much more time I can afford. Where can I learn more about 'starvation mode'? Maybe that's what's happening.
