A little history on me. I quit smoking 8 months ago and added 15lbs to my already overweight body. I had a goal of quitting smoking and getting into shape before I turned 40. I have til December to get to my goal.
I started going to the gym 5 days a week and doing 20 mins of weight training and then 30 minutes on the treadmill, elliptical or bike.

I did not weigh myself till today and I have lost only 2 lbs. I was shocked I feel bigger (muscle) stronger and leaner. But I had only lost 2lbs. I was waiting till my pants started to get loose but it never happened.
I have changed my diet some but I guess not enough. I thought doing this much exercise would help in the weight loss but no in 10 weeks. I am going to have to really focus on eating right from this point forward.

I am six one and 250lbs now and would like to be 215lbs.

Thanks for listening to my rant

Hi MRI. I am 6'0 and started off as a 253lbs smoker so I know where you're coming from.

I would start by counting calories (buy a scale, you CANNOT guess) and log everything you eat over about 2 weeks so you get a decent idea of your intake. A rule of thumb is to aim for 12 calories per lbs of bodyweight. At 250lbs that'd be 3,000 calories.

Eating right is really the only way to lose weight. We all got to be overweight by being poor at portion control (we gotta face the facts) so buy a scale and be accurate. It's a drag at first but will pay off.

Good luck

is the calorie counter I use. There are others of course but you really have to know how many calories you're consuming. Think of it as a daily allowance of 3,000 calories. If you fancy a snack do you want a boiled egg (70) and an apple(85) or can you splurge 300 cals on a Snickers?

MRI, Iain is right, you need to know your starting point with what you are eating now in the way of calories before you can make a decision on how much to cut and what to change in your diet.

30 minutes is ok for your cardio but the intensity might need to be increased and you don't say what your doing in your weight training.
