I have changed my diet quite a bit I am a huge bread eater. I have cut that out of my diet. No bread, no pasta and no potatoes. I don't really miss it that much. I am eating very well lots of veggies and a little bit of lean protein.
The problem (not a problem for me but people are on my back about it) I am having is I find myself eating between 680-800 calories a day. I know I should eat more but I just don't feel hungry. I tried to eat more tonight and I seriously feel like I sat down at a buffet for hours. I felt so full and bloated. I do not like that feeling of overeating and being too full. My best friend is always telling me I should eat more so I did tonight in my day I ate a total of 1000calories. In 13days I have lost 19lbs. Iam 5'7'' 237lbs(start weight 256)

My question is should I really eat mor even if I am not hungry anymore?? to me that sounds really crazy when you are losing weight..
I do exercise quite a bit, I do a workout with strength and cardio every day
I also go for bike rides with my daughter on the back of the bike!(in a seat) mind you there is quite a bit of uphill around here! I aslo walk alot.
So all you health experts what would you say to this?? Thanks

weigh in this morning and I hit my 20lbs lost woooohoooooo!!!!
20lbs in 2weeks!!!!!!!! WOW
I am so happy!! I don't think I will have lost 30lbs in 3 weeks
I probably will start losing less at a time but my goal is not to lose the most I can but to lose some until I reach a healthy weight. I have a long journey ahead of me but I beleive in myself and I will do this!

you have to force yourself to eat. you're making your body go into starvation mode. moreso than the fact that once you start eating normally again you'll gain weight is the fact that your body isn't getting a fraction of the nutrients it needs to function properly <<< may be why you're not getting the right responses from the brain to eat.
the weight is also coming off at an extraordinarily unhealthy rate. i congratulate your will to lose weight, but as you said, you're not racing anyone. take your time. if you are a girl, go no less than 1600 calories a day, if you're a guy go no less than 1800. i'd say bump each of those calorie rates up 200 more to be honest, but i'm not a real expert.

good luck =D

If you find you're full on a thousand calories, try high calorie density healthy food (nuts, cheese, or avocados, for example). They'll give you more energy for less space in your stomach. I agree with what's been said above, you definitely need to eat more.

Thanks, I eat pumpkin seeds, yogurt, oatmeal, lots of veggies(raw)
skinless chicken breast(grilled) I will try eating more, I have tried and felt so full I was uncomfortable(bloated, and trouble digesting). I will try having more nuts and see. about the 1600cals?? I thought it was 1200, I guess I have alot of work to do to be able to eat 1600 OMG.
I haven't tried protein shakes befor maybe I could get more cals with that. befor I resort to shakes though I woud really like to try and eat real food and see where it gets me.

Would you be able to write up what you eat on a typical day? So we can look at it and see if it's healthy and/ or what kind of swaps you might make to make sure you're getting enough. (Remember calories aren't a measure of weight or how full you feel eating them, they're a unit of energy. A small handful of nuts can have the same calories as about a pound of zucchini/ courgette)

Congrats on your weight loss so far.

The typical rule of thumb is that you should always eat at least 1200 calories a day. But that depends on the person too. Give us your specs. I know you're female (I'm not a stalker, I just checked your newcomer post), but we could use your height, weight and what a typical day of eating is for you.

The reason why you need to eat a minimum number of calories is because your body will eventually defend itself. It needs calories to survive, and if you aren't giving it enough it will eventually put itself into starvation mode. Storing as many calories as it can into fat. If this happens you will get way more tired and the weight loss will stop. This is why it's important to make sure your body is getting enough calories.

I weigh 234lbs, I am 5'7''tall
What I eat in a typical day is::

Oatmeal with 1%milk, blueberries (220 cals)

snack: 0% fat yogourt with a 1/4 cup allbran (75 cals)

lunch 4oz grilled chicken breast with salad (175 cals)
(lettuce tomatoe, cucumber, celery, olive oil, lemon juice)

snack apple or whatever fruit or veggie I feel like at that moment
(95 cals)

for dinner I often have a salad with either fish or chicken(175cals approx)

sanck yogourt with raw pumpkin seeds (95cals)

* this is what I ate yesterday, I don't eat the same thing all the time but it looks alike calorie wise anyway. I eat until I am satisfied but if I start feeling full I stop eating.

You definitely need to eat more than that. That's 835 calories. You'll make yourself sick in the long term eating like that.

Some simple things- switch the blueberries in your oatmeal for banana, or have both, or add some natural yoghurt on top of the oatmeal. Switch your first snack to an ounce of nuts (~150 cals). Drink milk (my 0.1% fat milk is 37 calories in 100ml, which is just over 3.5 fl oz). Switch your salads for more substantial vegetables (that will be better for your health in any case). Have your meals with bread, rice, or pasta (not too much, they're reasonably high calorie). Try alternate methods of cooking (frying isn't too bad if you can use a smaller amount of oil than normal; make a meat dish with some sort of sauce). I'd also recommend you cut back on the amount of meat- the nutritional requirements in the UK are for no more than 100g (~3.5oz) of meat a day, less of red and processed meat.

If you really can't get your calories up, you may want to consider fruit juice or something like that, particularly fruit juice with as much of the pulp in as possible to get the best nutritional hit out of it).

Amy1985 is quite right, you'll become ill eating like that.

Also, when you lose weight from drastic calorie reduction it tend's to be mostly muscle loss rather than fat loss.

Thank you. I'll try, I don't think I'll be able to eat a banana and an oatmeal in the same meal!! just a banana fills me up until 2pm. I had a toast with cheese tonight with my salad but I wasn't able to finish up my salad.

I know it may seem confusing to have to eat more calories to lose weight, but it's unhealthy to starve yourself.

If you feel that you are having a tough time getting to 1200 calories a day, there are some non filling healthy foods that can help you.

If you feel you just can't eat any more during your meals, try these for your snack.

Nuts, a great way to increase your calories is to have some nuts (TWSS) in between your meals. Or you can add them to your meals, add some to a salad or in a another dish.

Avocados are great for calorie increasing, and they're very good for you. Try adding some to your salads.

Real fruit juices are great in the morning and can also help you increase your calories for the day.

Hope these helped, good luck! :)

thanks, I have been eating a bit more nuts and a little whole wheat pasta.
I am curently on a plateau. I have changed my work out, a little longer and a bit more intense. hope this will help!

:iagree:

You should definitly be eating at least 1200 calories a day, no less! But its good to se your after making a change and have increased your calories!:)
