Losing Without the Parents Getting Funny

You know how it is 'there's nothing wrong with you, you don't need to lose weight' blah blah blah....

The typical lecture from your parents when they notice you are suddenly doing more exercising and less eating than normal.

My problem is that I know I am not fat, fat but I still feel uncomfortable - I like the skin and bones look, always have done. I do it unhealthily sometimes but that is why I have joined this sites and am trying to break away from pro-ana sites. My problem is my impatience - I have used many methods for weightloss in the past which I know deep down are wrong but I want quick results, these include fasting, making myself sick, over-exercising, chew/spitting, 2,4,6,8 diet etc...

I am determined to do it healthily this time but the parents can't find out and surprisingly enough it is alot easier to get away with eating nothing than only eating salads etc.

I am 5'8 and 126lbs, looking to get down to 92lbs.

Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

omg your 5,8 and wanna become 92lb thats scarly that will be so underweight that the skin and bones look wll be gone and youll just be bones.
i may not be the best person to get advice on because im considered boarderline anoerexic and im going to the doctors. even thou im still on the way to get to my goal weight, my goal weight isnt so underweight that i will be in deanger for my health and 92lb will make you so underweight that you wil be serioulsy ill.

Keep in mind that if you get down to 92 pounds, you're going to lose either a lot of fat, a lot of muscle, or a combination of the two.

To much muscle loss will result in your body eating itself to maintain fuel, not to mention compromise how your vital organs perform. To much fat loss will result in you losing your period and all sorts of hormonal malfunctions. You would have better results worrying less about trying to lose weight and go to the gym and put on some muscle which will help burn more fat.

hmm well if your going to do it anyway ill show you the better way. I don't think you need help looseing weight but you need help knowing that some weight is good. you should talk to a psychologist/or your doctor but your not going too. so do this ask yourself why you want to be super skinny? IE: maby to be more attractive? well then ask the people your attracted too if they like supper skinny, probably not I think. well anyway, you should talk to someone cause this path will lead you to more suffering, sometimes in ways your not even aware of.

template for loosing fat (cutting)
by average I mean you just want to effectively loose fat, without becoming extreme about it. I will try and outline the basics for you, and later on you should make adjustments / additions that will best fit your needs.
all that will be discussed is for optimal fat loss

DIET : -40% protein 40% carbs 20%fat this is a basic layout. "what kind of protein?" well you should eat: chicken, tuna, eggs, fish, beef are all acceptable basically avoid things like fast food meats and other stuff that's just common since. "what about carbs?" mainly oats, whole grains, starchy vegetables, and fruits mainly the ones with the word (berries) in them. "and fat?" most of your fat intake should be from vegetable oils, seeds and nuts. if you don't like those foods there are some alternatives. -"how many calories?" around 200-300 or 20-30% less than your maintenance level, "how do I know what my maintenance level is?" one way to figure it out is to keep a calorie intake journal for 5-7 days. If your weight stays constant, then you simply divide the total calories consumed by the number of days and you’ll get your daily intake. -liquids: 1-2 gallons/4-8 Liters of water a day is the basic amount you want. you should eat 6 meals a day spaced out 2-3 houres. foods you will want to say away from are: soda, mayo, chips, french fries, ice cream, most salad dressings & oils(except olive oil), cheese. if you can't live without them then go for non-fat and low sugar type things. use some common sence and don't try to make drastic changes all in a day, it should be a gradual process. once you get to the weight you like then you can raise your calorie intake up to maintenance.

SUPPLEMENTS: (first tier supps) for fat loss is a multivitamin and some EFA's (essential fatty acids). (second tier supps) protein powders like casein (used before bed) would be the one of choice for fat loss, whey (after workout) is also benifital. thermogenic fat burners or stimulant-free fat burners are usefull in loosing weight, follow the direction on thoes products which is very important. they will add an extra boost to your goals (san tight is a good stimulant-free product). I would not bother with anything else like carb blockers, fat blockers, appetite suppressants, and other fat loss products you will see everywhere, with maby the exception of thyroid hormone increasers but usally there is no need for them.

WORKOUT PROGRAMS: almost any program will work. the only thing you will want to add is less rest between exercises and sets, but don't hurt yourself.
alot of these exercises have dumbbell-counterparts.
Chest: Parallel bar dips, Bench Press, Incline Press
Legs:Squats (including front squats), tiff-Legged deadlifts, Calf-raises
Back:Bent-over rows, Chins Bent-legged, Deadlifts (also a leg exercise)
Delts:Military press, Lateral raises
Arms:Close-grip bench, press Close-grip chins
you can find fully detailed workouts.

CARDIO: there are two main types of cardio you should use, first is called slow cardio and the second is called HIIT (high intensity interval training). you should use them in a ratio of 3-1 (IE 3 days of slow and 1 day of HIIT). For best results do cardio 4 times a week for an houre, too much is somtimes counterproductive and too little is well too little. "what is slow cardio?" slow cardio is doing any activity (running, biking, swimming, boxing, etc) with about 75-85% of your max heart rate for an houre. "how do I know what my max heart rate is?" well when you do an activity where you are still able to talk without being extremely out of breath, or another easy way is take 220 and minus your age then take that number and multiply it by .75-.85 which will give you rough percentages of 75-85% of your max heart rate or (HR), of course this is not entirly accurate, cause everyone is different. "ok what is HIIT then?" HIIT works like this first you warm up doing whatever for 5 min then take some time and stretch. after your all ready, start a moderate pace for 1 minute then you move your pace up to 90-95% of you max HR for the next 15-30 seconds, then go back down to your moderate pace for 1 min, then back up to 90-95% and back down agen. you get the idea (moderate for 1 min, then 90-95% for 15-30 sec) do this around 15-20 times and your done.

WILLPOWER: alot of people try to make changes too fast and end up quiting, so don't over do it, this means to slowly change your diet and work your way up to the suggested cardio regimen. if you don't workout already and don't want to that is ok, working out is not required for loosing weight but it will help the main parts are your diet and cardio. by phaledax

jesus 92 pounds is really, unhealthily skinny. I'm not sure if you're a guy or a girl, i couldn't spot anything in your post to say either way. I'm a guy, same height 5'8" weigh around 200 pounds. I'm about 20 pounds or so overweight for my height. I'm hoping your not a guy because that is frightening if your weight is already 125 and you wanna lose more. If your a girl, 125 is still a bit on the skinny side. Like the guy from the above post says, you should speak to someone who is qualified to help you because it is obvious that this isn't a "i'm overweight and I wanna lose weight" scenario. As evolution mentioned, if you lose that sort of weight you will get real sick, real quick. Do the right thing and seek some professional advice.

i think the doctor is great to talk about this type of problem, i mean after loads of encourgment from my friends and family, i have started going to the doctor :)

Good for you girl! You should treasure your health more than anything. It's bad enough when you get sick and can't do nothing about it.....so please don't get sick on purpose.

Keep a healthy weight!

This site is all about improving health, looking better and feeling better. With your goals I really can't give you any advice other than "don't." You most certainly do not have my blessing. In fact last I heard- even being attracted to the skeleton look is now considdered a mental illness. I would say cut your losses and maintain what you have.
Being a man who has been in the fitness game for a very long time I can certainly understand that looking good is more important to some people than their health and although I no longer believe it myself I can relate. Even though we are talking about your immidiate health. What you may not know though is that to have that look will take weeks or mothes of careful (not reckless) harmful planning to maintain for a very short amount of time before you have to gain it all back with less muscle and it will be harder than ever to lose it again. Every time you do one of those destructive diets it will become harder and harder each time.

I am glad that you want to play it healthy now but I certainly doubt that anyone here can give you a good way to reach that goal. It is a self destructive goal and it is painful for people to see.

Guess what? It isn't always about weight. It's more about the way you look.

126 and 5'8" is a perfectly healthy weight. You shouldn't be trying to get to 92 pounds, that's really unhealthy. You're looking to drop over THIRTY pounds, and you're already at a perfectly healthy weight.

Of course you're parents are getting funny over this. Just because you are still eating food doesn't make you healthy.

If you were to become 92 pounds, you'd be skinnier than a fashion model, and that certainly isn't good.

I would suggest excercising of course, but don't cut down your calories to extreme amounts.

If you lose that much weight, you'll lose muscle as well, as someone else said. You might think that the muscle doesn't matter, because you are going for the "skin and bones" look, but you're body is going to start to break down, and you won't function like a healthy person should.

becoming extremly underweight can effect other parts of you, you will feel unhealthy theres no much u will be able to do, you wont be able to concentrate and walking up your house stairs may seem like a big challenge, we cant make you not lose weight but if you do want to lose weight do it healthy and dont go to extream measures!

my parents r constantly telling me that im hurting them when im losing weight n that there blood pressure gets high cause there worried, and there saying i should stop losing weight caus ei f i keep it up ill put them in hospital, they killed me from inside, i felt worthless and upset i felt i had no control over everythinng and i should just give up trying to be happy and just let my parents be happy and control my life.
ims till trying to lose weight however im doing it secreatly now. but i dont c why they got so angry its not like im doing anything stuiped or trying to lose lots of weight.

When I was loosing weight my mom was always like "I'm not spending money on your 'diet', you're fine, what are you anorexic??! Why can't you eat with the rest of the family?!"
Then when I finally lost is all she wouldn't give me credit. She said "You were just on a growth spurt.." Yea ok. I lost 50 lbs and grew an inch... lol.
She did finally give me credit though, however painful it was for her to admit.
Then when I got into weight lifting she always said "I'm not gonna spend all my money on weights what are you trying to prove? YOU'RE FINE! You're not gonna be Arnold Schwarzenegger at 17!"
She always came around though even if her words were not always that encouraging. I just told her "Just wait and see". Now she comes to me for weight loss advice.
HA!
I don't know what is with parents and weight loss (or weight lifting). If I had a kid I'd encourage the crap out of him.

lol you guys make me feel more normal about my mom.. it's really a pain in the ass to live w someone who has always something to say against u

My mum is always making comments about me losing weight is not healthy, evan if i've just put on 10 pounds. She got back from holiday a couple of days ago and said "you've lost weight" in that strained voice that lets you know she doesn't approve. Of course i've put on weight recently, not lost it, silly bint. I just ignore her, someone whos smokes and drinks like she does can't lecture me on health.

Yeah, I definitely can sympathize with that!!

92 pounds is way too low. I'm a celebrity/fashion mag junkie and I know off the top of my head that the SMALLEST supermodel/skin and bones actress at 5'8" is probably around 110 or 115. Which is incredibly hard to maintain, by the way. Not impossible if you are naturally very skinny though, which it sounds like you must be. You are probably just not toned and would look incredible at the weight you are at if you just exercised a little more. You need to eat foods very rich in vitamins - lots of salads with extra virgin olive oil and vinegar dressing. (Olive oil has tons of antioxidants and will keep you looking young - a big problem with very skinny women since they don't have fat to plump up the skin and fill wrinkles). Lean chicken and organic 4-8% fat beef cooked on the george foreman is excellent. I like mine with salsa! Old fashioned oatmeal is good. Salmon/tuna is excellent. And do some pilates/yoga to tone up without building big muscles which weigh a lot.

And most importantly, don't worry about the numbers on the scale. Aim to fit into those awesome jeans (or whatever). Remember, a flat butt is never sexy - look at the runway models (skinniest in the business) even they have cute butts. At 5'8" you will look weird being smaller than a size 2 or 26 (think Kate Moss or Paris Hilton). Most men I've found PREFER a woman around a size 4 (Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron) so don't stress about getting too small. Just don't be flabby and you will look FABULOUS!

You're at a healthy weight. Some weight training (learning the big three's form (esp. arching and breathing) and lotsa back training), HIIT and low-intensity cardio, a balanced diet and not looking at the scale all the time, and you'll end up pretty purty.

Also, as I assume you're at an early age, it is essential for you not to think about your problems and pains as much and open up to what the world has to give.
