Losing weight without changing your diet? (important)

I have an insulinoma which means I produce too much insulin, as a result of this I am hypoglycemic which means my blood sugar levels drop faster/lower than a healthy person. Because of this it means I eat more than I should and I'm putting on weight very fast.

I used to very healthy with a standard figure but now I'm very out of shape (I pretty much have man tits!). I play football (soccer) very often and my fitness has very obvioulsy deteriated. I can't play full match any more, I'm not running as much and it's seriously affecting my game.

Essentially, because of my condition my whole life is falling apart. I need a way to keep fit/lose weight but without changing how much I eat, so preferably exercise (although I play a lot of football without change).

Could anyone help?

I don't think this is too much of a problem but you are right, I could just cut back on everything unhealthy. I guess it's a sacrifice I have to do. What I'm really wondering though is if it's scientificly possible to lose weight without changing what you eat, so purely exercise.

There was a study released a week or two ago that proved the level of activity is more important that what/when we eat. Obviosly it's only one study and many people are going to disagree with it.

As I always say... for every one study that says this... there is a study that says the exact opposite.

Do what you can and tweak things as needed.

It should be once you are expending more calories then you are taking in you should lose weight. Now that is dependent on a calorie just being a calorie which it generally isn't. Anyway click onto fitday.com and at least see what you daily calorie intake is and then figure out how much exercise per day you will have to do to lose weight.

However for my 2 cent, no you won't be able to lose the weight by just doing exercise, as if you are currently putting on weight while still playing football you would seriously need to up your exercise levels and that will probably only get you to a point where you aren't gaining any weight let alone losing any. So diet will have to play a part, due to your condition i would consult a Dr or good dietitian into helping you out with your diet

Yes, you can lose weight without drastically chaning diet, provided your diet isn't way high on calories, and the macro's are at sufficient levels to be healthy.

its probably more about what you eat. too many simple sugars, and not eating often enough. i would think a hypoglycemic would benefit a LOT from the right carbs, at 6 meals a day. should keep the blood sugar from ever dipping too low.
And I too would suggest speaking to a dietician. Doctors know biology, but not food. Dieticians specifically study how to deal with diabeties, hypoglycemia, and other 'dietary conditions'.

Thank you for the responses. Massive coincidence but I'm feeling a lot fitter at the moment. I played a game of football the other day and was still easily running at the end which is very good for me.

Very good idea about the dieticion, I feel it's exactly what I need.

Thanks all.
