Losing weight with a college schedule?

Hi everyone, I just started College, which takes place from 9-4 (get home at 4.40 or so). I tried to lose weight before but eventually gave up but I am determined more than ever now since College gets me up in the morning and has me sticking to a schedule, even on weekends. We eat lunch at 11, then again at 1, and from 1 - 4.30 or so my stomach is empty.

It's important as far as I know to eat at regular intervals to keep up a metabolism, so how does my school schedule suit a weight loss regime? Also what kind of exercise and how much should I be getting in a day now (morning before school, and after?)

I'm so determined to do this and would love any info or help with it

Thanks :)

Glad to hear you're determined!

Firstly, you don't need to eat as frequently as you're implying in order to keep metabolic rate up. Metabolic rate isn't that finicky and volatile. In fact, short term fasting has shown to increase metabolic rate slightly. Moral of the story... don't sweat your meal frequency so much. As long as your calories and nutrients are in check at the end of the day, you're doing good.

As far as exercise advice goes... it's tough to throw recommendations your way without knowing more. In the game of fitness, everything is context-specific. What's right for you might not be optimal for the next person given your weight, goals, experience, etc.

I'm 5-10-11", weigh about 260. I am up early in the morning for college so can jog in the morning before college anyway. Have weights and was thinking a 6 day routine of two exercise sessions a day, alternating between cardio-cardio and cardio-mass. Any advice is appreciated!!

Hi, I have a similar schedule to yours. What I find important is to never feel hungry but keep calorie levels down.

I tend to eat a large breakfast to keep me full - big bowl of cereal and a banana and a glass of milk. About 11ish I will have some carrot sticks or an apple and at 1 I will have a sandwich or salad (I cheat because I buy them ready made so I can tell how many calories are in them!) I make sure this meal is below a certain calorie level but is filling enough to keep me feeling full for a few hours. As soon as I finish, I hit the gym for an hour. When I get home, I add up all the calories I had that day (If I get hungry during the day I will have a snack or if its someones birthday they might have brought in cake) and minus the cals that I used up in they gym and I work out how many calories I have left to use. Sometimes it is quite a lot and I can afford to have a dessert or glass of wine with a meal. I try and stick at 1500 cals (being a 137lb female) but it will probably be more for you. Another top tip is to have a bottle of water with you at all times and drink a lot- it keeps me from feeling hungry.

Its all about finding a routine that works for you - if you feel deprived, you won't stick to it. I always have one night a week where I dont care - my boyfriend takes me out for a meal and drinks and I just relax and forget all about calories!
