Losing weight Whilst gaining muscle!

I've heard from a few people that it can be tricky to gain muscle whilst losing body fat all over your body? Especially as your body can look to your muscles for fuel,

I go to the gym for muscle training 3/4 time per week but I need to lose a bit of weight also without losing the muscle I'm gaining, is it as simple as just doing cardio and interval training? Or are there other things I need to be aware of?

Paradise comes at a price..

When you move from gaining muscle (calorie surplus) to cutting fat (calorie deficit) your weights need to change to a max strength routine not a hypertrophy routine which would be used during your mass building phase and you need to keep cardio to a moderate intensity.

Most plans to do both at the same time involve higher and lower calorie days. Basically try to eat the fewest calories on days when you're not working out, and the higher calorie days within 24 hours after a strength training workout. The muscle building effect is highest in the first 24 hours after strength training, so eat more then to encourage muscle building and eat less when it doesn't matter as much to get rid of some of the fat.
