Losing Weight, Need help

Well, first time ever posting on here, however I found this great forum from Google, and after browsing through it, there seems to be a lot of educated people on here that actually know what they're talking about. Let me start off with how things are going right now.

BODY NOW:
20 yrs old
5'11
200 lbs
Man boobs - My biggest problem

BODY I WANT:
170-175 lbs
NO MORE MAN BOOBS!:)

I am 20 years old right now, and ever since I graduated high school 2 years ago, I have gained roughly 30 pounds and I CANT STAND IT! During my senior year, I went on a diet when I was 180lbs starting eating better during the week, working out 3-5 times a week for a month and a half, and got on Ephedra-free Hydroxycut. I lost 12 lbs before my Senior year prom, and loved the results it gave me. I used to drink on the weekends at parties or bars and what not (who doesn't have a fake ID), so when I was drinking I would not take Hydroxycut usually during the weekend.

Now though, I am 20 yrs old, and I have been smoking pot now since middle of freshmen year. I don't suffer from the munchies, so thats not why I have been gaining weight. I always limit myself to what I eat when I am under the influence because I know its just my mind telling me i'm hungry or want something when i'm really not hungry. I smoke regularly, I would say 5-6 times a week, and I don't really want to stop. It really helps relax my body, and my mind. I know its wrong, and i'm not here to hear what I know everyones going to say, "you need to quit if you want to see results," "weed is bad." I just don't really want to hear that.

I've been reading how a lot of people say stay away from Hydroxycut, its just caffeine pills, however it worked for me, and it had positive results. I don't know if it was just a energy booster, but I saw results immediately.

I need to be in shape soon, I want to go to the beach this summer and be PROUD! I stopped working out after senior year, just playing basketball a couple times a month (big mistake). I have now started eating alot better, and since than I have started my work out schedule. Keep in mind that i'm just starting to work out, so my schedule consists of:

-Running on the treadmill for 20 minutes
-Doing a Precor machine where I have to sway my arms and swing my legs for 15 minutes
-And shooting around, or playing a game of basketball

I don't know where to go from there. I don't know what else to do at the gym to help me lose weight. Should I do weight training? If so, what kind of weight training should I do? Should I work out my chest even though I don't want it to get bigger? Should I be doing a lot of weights for less repititions or less weight for more reps. As you can see, I have no idea where to go!

I want to start taking Hydroxycut again, but I don't know how it will react with my body while being a marijuana smoker. Will it have negative side effects on me? If I shouldn't take hydroxycut, what should I take or if anything? I really want results fast! even though I know thats impossible!\

Thanks in advance for your help and time.

Come back when you're ready and serious about making a positive life style change...

<begin soapbox> You may not want to hear it, but I bet most on this forum would agree that we're here to help people be healthy overall, not just to help look good on the beach regardless of the cost. If you don't want to give up weed, that's your decision. But everything you put into your body makes a difference in your overall health. How your body looks on the outside is often a reflection of how healthy it is on the inside. </end soapbox>

With that said, yes, you need to be lifting weights. Stick to doing reps in the 8-12 range, working to muscle failure. Yes, work your chest too, but it's the cardio and your diet that'll help get rid of the man boobs.

I'd stay away from Hydroxycut. You can get to where you need to be without artificial stimulants, and I'm always a proponent of not putting things into your body that don't need to be there. You may even be risking some sort of interaction with your pot intake.

Fast results typically do not equal permanent results. Ever hear of yo-yo dieting? You can still make good progress by the summer if you do it the right way, but you have to be serious about it.

no more

WEED. That was my problem too. But since I have quit my man boos dissapeared and ive pretty much got the body i want except for the steel abs.

Weed kills your work outs, gets you short of breath, and turns you really lazy.

I would cut back to once every 2 weeks if I were you. That way you can use it as a reward type of deal.

I know you can't just stop out of the blue from 5- 6 times a week.

People use weed differently. Some people smoke every once in awhile and do something they enjoy, a hobby of some sort. Others smoke it just to feel good and sit on their ass all day and laugh at Family Guy. It is my belief that the first scenario is acceptable, anything in moderation can be OK. If the second scenario is the case, where it's causing one to eat crap, never exercise, and just reflects negatively on daily life, it has become a problem and needs changing.

To summarize, 5-6 times/days a week is a lot. It surely isn't going to work in your favor, but if you are still eating a strict nutrition plan, lifting weights 3 times a week, and doing HIIT and SS runs, you can lose weight and maintain muscle. The problem is being able to actually do it...
