losing too fast?

Hi there,

I decided in order to lose weight, I had to cut out as much excess sugar as I could. I was addicted to sugar and four weeks ago nearly I went to the dr. and I was weighed and I just got tired of being nagged about my weight and the fact that I don't want to go on cholesterol meds. I'm flat out tired of being fat and feeling fat and looking fat and being unhealthy. I have also had periodic BP problems. Thankfully I've never had diabetis problems (but had some hypoglycemia right after starting the diet). So I came home from the drs. office and decided no more desserts, no more lots of sugar, etc. I also cut my portions back. So a few days later I had some hypoglycemia problems and now I'm okay. I lost a total of about 20 lbs. in a little less than four weeks so far. This was not intentional, it just happened that way. I feel like I'm doing okay and I think I can keep doing this I am exercising a little bit more but not much. Maybe 15 minutes of cardio type workout once every other day.

Anyways, is this a really bad thing? I mean I felt like I had to do it this way. If I tried to gradually do it, it wouldn't happen. That's like a chain smoker trying to gradually wean off smoking - usually works best quitting cold turkey, KWIM?

I feel like soon I'll be able to maybe have some cheesecake in the house for hubby and I would also like a small sliver but I hope I don't go nuts with it here... Cookies - not ready for that yet <grin>.

Any elightenment is welcomed.

Not sure I would necessairly say its too fast but 5 lbs a week is over what i have been told and read as far as a healthy weight to lose per week. I was told to not go over 3lbs a week for healthy weightloss but i lost almost 4 lbs my first week and the doc didn't say anything so as long as your eating right and getting in some exercise/cardio i think you should be good as long as your not having adverse health effect from losing it to fast.

It's nothing you should be worried about. Generally you will hear about 2-3 pounds of weight loss per week is healthy but it is completely normal to lose more quicky right when you begin losing weight. 4-5 pounds sometimes happens right at the onset but it will slow down. If you continue losing 5 pounds per week for an extended period of time (more than the 4 weeks) then it may be something to look into.

i lost about 20lb in the first two weeks. The bigger you are and always at the beginning you loose tons. Pity it doesnt last :O
