Lose weight

Hey, can anyone help. I need to lose about 15- 20 pounds of fat. Or at least turn it into muscle. Does anyone know a good WEEKLY diet plan that's healthy and works good. It doesnt have to be something that show results really fast or anything.

Wow... there really isn't any way to answer this in the way that you want. My suggestion is to figure out how many calories per day your body needs (there are many calculators on the web that will give you a rough idea), then to eat a 60/20/20 split with 60% of those calories coming from carbs, 20% from protein and less than 20% from fats. If you want to gain muscle, then try a 50/30/20 or 40/40/20 plan.

Just don't neglect the exercise part of the equation.

Good Luck!

Hi everybody! :) I'm a newbie, but not so new at trying to loose weight! :( Hopefully this forum will be a good inspiration for me.

I am a mother of 4, overweight, have the "Gizell", have free weights, exercise ball, thigh master, stairmaster, rowing machiene, Body By Jake, Winsor Pilates videos, and my most recient perchase was a cruch Tae Bo video by Billy Blanks!

So why am I still fat!!!!! I need inspired!! Please help!!

The biggest mistake "newbies" make to this whole get fit deal is they try to attempt to lose weight. If you do that, your more than likely going to fail. You have to change your lifestyle. Become more active, eat right, drink plenty of water.

The way to do this is simple, You have to know how much food (calories) your taking in, and regular exercise. If we have your vital statistics (weight, height, and age) we can recommend how much calories you should have during the day.

I'm really not confident enough to give my weight info, but I know the "key" to loosing weight is EAT RIGHT AND EXERCISE, I know that, and it's so easy to say! But I need a boost! Some insperation! Motivation! I know what to do, just need the right words to get me moving! I want to start weight training, I have the weights, I just don't really know the moves to target the right muscles. I've got 4 young kids, I can't afford to hurt myself!

Weight loss is a process of boosting your metabolism. The way you boost your metabolism is proper diet and exercising. Not eating enough can lower your metabolism, thats where knowing how many calories you need a day comes into play. If your not comfortable giving your statistics (thats perfectly ok, I can assure you, the people who use this forum are kind, helpful, and very supportive) just do a google search for "calorie intake calculators" and fill in the blanks.

You asked for help, I gave you some key basic information, you said you already knew that. Once , I lost 68 lbs, got injured and gained it back. My current program I've lost 30 lbs that I regained when I was hurt. I seem to think I know what I'm talking about. You can exercise until you drop, without the proper diet, your wasting your time.

The only one who can motivate you is yourself. My motivation is that I want to be at a good healthy weight is something I want badly. Self Motivation and willpower is something that has to be learned if you don't have it already.

Try www.bodybuilding.com and www.abcbodybuilding.com for exercises to do while you weight train.

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great ones make you feel that you too, can become great." -- Mark Twain

"Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goals." -- Brian Tracy

"Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict." -- William Ellery Channing

"Every time you get rejected, say: 'Next!'" -- Mark Victor Hansen

"Progress however, of the best kind, is comparatively slow. Great results cannot be achieved at once; and we must be satisfied to advance in life as we walk, step by step." -- Samuel Smiles

"Adopt the pace of nature. The secret is patience. A bottle fills drop by drop." -- Max Steingart

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face." -- Eleanor Roosevelt

:D

the big thing in excersise though is cardio, ive been sick for the past week and havnt been able to do much cardio and my losses have slowed down gonna be getting back at it soon.

if you want motovation go run for a bit or just a light job nothing to strenuous, and see how good you feel after words and just remember that feeling everything you think "awww i dont feel like doing anything today"

oh and by the way nice set of quotes abear

I wouldn't worry about giving this info. Its not like we know you. Hey your not posting a photo.

I'm 5ft 9, 13 stone, aged 27, male, with a pain in the arse 38inch beer gut which i'm trying to lose.

Heres something funny, i previewed my post and i'd put 28inch :)

yeah im probally, not sure just guessing here the heavist person here, at 280ish i just got a huge gut 44inch waist, im proud that im heavy, comes in handy but id still rather be 280 and solid muscle, thats why im eating healthy and working out tons, not only that i love the feeling after breaking your personal record, and the endorphins that get released are a huge plus.

Wow! What alot of GREAT advice!! Thanks everyone! And thanks for the links aevans410! I will definaltly check them out.
So I guess my next step is to get a video or book on proper weight training. I heard that muscle burns fat, so I want that! I want to be able to eat whatever I want and just exercise it all away! Am I living in a dream world??

Those links are definitely great resources - they will get you started in the right direction. Bodybuilding.com also has a forum you can check out.
To the second part of your post - unfortunately, you are living in a dream world. You have to think, too, that what you put in your mouth may not make you fat, but it will have ill effects. You have to eat for health - getting important vitamins and minerals, phytochemicals, etc. But weight training is one of the best things you can do. Perhaps after starting a lifting program, you will find that eating better will actually help you much more than eating whatever you want. You'll have more energy and less body fat. okay, now I'm kinda rambling.... ciao

Hey Spockafina! You certainly do have a great frame of mind with your health don't you! I really really really want to get to that point. I guess it just seems so overwhelming- all the info out there on being healthy, that it's hard to know where to start!

So, your obvioulsy a "Trekie" as well as a healthy person! I'm a "Scaper"!! Do you like Farscape?

Hey - once you start getting into it, you'll probably see things the same way I do. It takes some time and control, though!
I've never watched Farscape. I've heard it's awesome. To be honest, I just don't have any free time to watch television (it's all spent at the gym)

By the way, the abcbodybuilding sight it fantastic!! It's exactly what I've been looking for!!! Thanks again aevans410!!

4 young kids there's your motivation. Don't you want to see your kids grow up? being overweight leads to a lot of premature deaths in this country. Just get yourself moving. Walk at the local mall or schools I was there myself 322lbs down to 199 this morning. In a mag I just got it stated that you're six more times likley to die from injurys being overweight than not. It's all up to you. Good luck and if I can do it anyone can..........m

Marty said it best with "it's all up to you." No amount of words can suffice to get you motivated until you really want to do this. The results will be motivation enough if you stick with it.

As far as the right movements for the right muscle groups...well as strength coach Dan John says "Just pick stuff up and lift it."

"Just pick stuff up and lift it"! I like that!!! heheheheheh!!
And yes, my children are my biggest reason for anything I do. Actually they want me to live until I'm 100, so I better get my butt in gear here eh!!

If you tough it out for a month, do everything right, lose 15-20 lbs (initially you CAN lose that much, after the first month, its unhealthy to lose at that rate though) I can guarantee you won't need any more motivation than that.
