hello! i just joined but think this is a great place to motivate oneself! I've been dieting for about a month and a hlaf and have lost ten pounds! im 5 4 and am now 130 pounds. at the same time, I dont feel much different, no one has commented on it at all, and it seems like my pants dont feel looser, etc. Am i just loosing water weight? im not exercising regularly. in your experience, is this why i dont feel like i look or feel any different? I'd be grateful for any experiences or tips anyone may have. -heather

I don't think so. If you think about it even loss of water should make us look smaller.

Maybe take a picture of yourself wearing the same clothes every time you go down a kilogram.

Are you weighing yourself at the same time of day? I do it in the mornings first thing.

What time of day did you make the starting weight? My starting weight was in the afternoon. So know that the very next morning it would have been quite a bit less.

Exercise won't have anything to do with it either. 5kg is a lot to lose. So if you really have lost 5kg and you can't see the difference, there's something terribly wrong.

One thing I have noticed is that it will be a decent amount - not just 10-20 pounds unless you are excercising regularly. I feel (can be very wrong) that this is to do with your muscle mass. Your body just tightens up a bit more and sizing is very apparent!

Congrats on the weight loss! I def agree that taking progress pictures is the way to go. I always recommend to my clients taking picts every 2 weeks: same time of day, same outfit, same pose, etc. That way you can really see your changes.

Also, adding strength training and regular exercise in general can help make a big difference. Adding muscle will help burn more body fat and shape your body much better than diet alone. When you diet you lose a lot of muscle mass and that can make your results look not as good.
