Loose Skin

Loose Skin? Desperate to know!

After I had my 2 children, I decided to dedicate myself to my body. I lost the weight I had gained and now I am left with some of the evidence (loose skin). I must mention that as I have lost weight, my skin has tightened, however, I still have some loose skin.

Is this something that can go away with exercise? Should I keep dieting or is this something a plastic surgeon has to get rid of.

I feel confident with my clothes on or off, however when they are off, the truth is evident :rotflmao:.

Has anyone been through this or have words of wisdom?

Stats: I am 5'3, 133lbs today

Is it loose skin or fat? SO frustrating.

I developed an eating disorder when I was around 17, and lost a lot of weight. I lost it everywhere...but my BELLY. My stomach doesn't really portrude outward (I look best from the side) but facing front, my body is shaped like a pear. The fat/loose skin/whatever it is has become such a burden to me. After 4 years of torturing my body, I expected to have less baggage on my stomach. I am so skinny everywhere else, my ribs and spine portrude in certain positions, but why is my tummy not proportional to the rest of me??

Is it fat or loose skin?? I won't know how to formulate a diet or exercise program if I don't even know what I'm working with. I can pull up my belly skin from under my breasts upward, and it stretches tight, the way I WANT it to look like. But when I release the skin, it's back to that damned pear shape. I've gotten mixed responses from family members as to what it is.

its both skin and fat no doubt. Fat sits under the skin, so the more extra skin you have in one place, the more fat you have also there.
So you may be slim everywhere except where the excess skin is. You can either loose more weight to loose all your fat to look normal, or save up and get the op.

Personally, id do both i think. But i would most definatly do the surgery, its just a matter of when. They are costly!

Using weights to build muscle will actually help your body burn fat. I heard that for every pound of muscle that you gain you burn off an additional 50 calories a day. So some light-weight weight training could really help tone you up and make your body burn more calories throughout the day.

:iagree: i think she's right~

I heard you can't gain muscle when you're in a caloric deficit, but added activity will increase the disparity between your calories in and your calories out.

No, you're both wrong. An extra pound of muscle doesn't burn 50 extra calories a day. That number is closer to the single digits... just another "fat myth", if you will.

JD, it's not impossible to build muscle when in a deficit, just not probable.

Okay - didn't read this whole thread - way too long! :)

But did see this and wanted to respond:

Obviously, this guy has never been pregnant with a 10 lb baby!

I am currently 35 lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight, And I still have a saggy stomach (my baby is 5 months old). I've been doing tons of crunches, so my abs are pretty toned, but my stomach will never look like it did before the pregnancy stretched it out.

Don't be so sure! I've had three children and gained 40 lbs. each time. It took awhile but my skin did shrink back eventually. I'm 46 now - had the last baby at 40 and I do now have a little extra skin on my stomach but it is minimal and only noticeable to me.

Also - stretched skin is stretched skin - doesn't matter how it got that way! But IMO there is a limit to how far it will stretch and still go back. I imagine there is a time when surgery would be the only option - esp. if you combine losing a lot of weight with getting older since as you age your skin loses elasticity anyway.

This is of great interest to me as my start weight was 326 and I'm at 313.5 right now. and I want to lose a total of 196 lbs.

I've heard that there are like 4 factors, which are age, how much/fast you loose, if you've had a baby before (for woman duh!), and how much water you drink.

I've got youth and water on my side, so I hope I don't have too much issues with saggy skin, but I'd much rather have saggy skin and be alive than die of a heart attack at 40.

i am 22
ive lost 28lbs in 3 months (thats an average of 2.3lbs a week)
ive no kids
And i drink about 10 glasses of water a day(the big glasses)

so i should be ok...hopefully lol

possibility of loose skin

Hey, I've heard all these horror stories about how losing a lot of weight causes excess skin. I'm 20 years old and my weight has gone from 10st (140lbs) to 13.5-14 st (189-196lbs) (not sure, my scales tell me 14st, the gym's tell me 13.5st) in the last 3 years. I've just started to lose weight and am taking things slow- a target of getting to 9.5-10 st by April/May, basically 2lbs a week. Is this amount of weight loss over this priod of time enough to put me at risk of "saggy" skin? What can I do to reduce (eliminate) this risk?
Many thanks

My buddy lost over 100 lbs and he is fit as a fiddle. He has the remnants of stretch marks, but those are fading with time, sun, and cocoa butter.

When he went to lose the weight he made sure to drink at least 64 ounces (half a gallon) of water a day...pure water...not diet soda, not juice. He drank a variety of other liquid as well, but he always balanced those out with more water. He was aqua obsessed.

He used cocoa butter on his skin from day 1.

He trains like a mad man. It took him over a year, but he looks good without a shirt on.

I hope that helps...I'm following his formula...

1) WATER BALANCE
2) COCOA BUTTER before it is loose
3) TRAIN HARD

Wishes,

And also for anyone else who has lost lots of weight, I was wondering how your skin is going? You very bravely posted photos quite a while ago and said you'd need to wait and see if your skin tightened up a bit before you opted for surgery, so I was wondering if you've noticed much of a difference since taking the pics?

I'm down 200lbs in just over 2 years...

Factors to take into considerate -Age -i'm 43
other factor to take into consideration: how long you were overweight -in my case probably 20+ years.

I still have about 40 -50lbs to lose - but I don't care about the number anymore so much..

My stomach still has a lot of fat on it but it's definitely saggy... my upper arms, even with the benefit of a lot of strengh training- hare quite saggy and flappy.

boobs- they're still quite booby (36DD from a 46DD) still saggy though in some bras, I can see the skin.

my upper inner thighs are extremely saggy but mid thigh shorts are wearable...

when i take a bubble bath, that's where i really see the loose skin in my legs - it looks like my "skin suit" is about 2 sizes to big -but only when i'm floating in the tub...

Will I have surgery? strongly doubtful - i hav a high threshhold for pain but intentionally inflicting pain on myself for vanity purposes isn't my thing - i'm too oldand unattractive to be posing in playboy so i'll live with what i've got

Wow, Maleficent! Well done on the weight loss.

I've lost just over 40lbs so far and want to go another 60 - 70 but am just trying to guess what my body/skin will do. I've been overweight for a similar time as you and am 35 but am having a bit of a confidence crisis.

I do the exercise, diet, moisturise the skin etc but having lost my husband so suddenly now worry about being attractive in the future. I know thats really the least of my worries and probably just grief talking. I guess its the fact that I've lost the person that loved me no matter what that makes me worry now what other people will think, if that makes sense. I tell myself at least I'll look great dressed!

Sorry if this sounds a bit self indulgent, wasn't meant to be!

I have lost close to 80lbs, and I am a youngster at 18:p, I have loose skin on my arms, and my stomach. I have no doubt it will go back on its on, but it will take time. My skin has always been prone to stretchmarks, and loose skin- I would rather have some loose skin for a year or two, than be obese again! That is for sure. Even though it makes finding some shirts hard sometimes.

I have also started to notice loose skin on my thighs, like I said though, I try not to worry! I am sure it will go back, since I am so young. If not I will worry about it then!

hey all, just signed up and have a question:

At age 14 i was 240, at 6''1. im now 16, just about 17 and im at 173 and 6"3.
