Loose Skin

Fasting is never a solution, I am afraid. My husband had the same problem - no matter what he did lovehandles would not go away. He was always a very fit person, exercised all his life,he is a very dedicated marathon runner, but no matter how hard he tryed, lovehandles just wouldn't go away. He made a decision to go for lipo and underwent surgery just 3 weeks ago. He is very happy with his results and I can already see great improvement - lovehandles are completely gone although doctor said my hubby would have to wait 6-7 weeks for complete results to settle and show up.:)

It seems to me that fasting would make loose skin looser, by removing the substrate of fat which is giving it any support at all. You may want to consult a doctor, there aren't any really good ways of tightening up skin that I know of if you've already given it three years to tighten up.

Obviously, this guy has never been pregnant with a 10 lb baby!

I am currently 35 lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight, And I still have a saggy stomach (my baby is 5 months old). I've been doing tons of crunches, so my abs are pretty toned, but my stomach will never look like it did before the pregnancy stretched it out.

Pregnancy is a whole different creature unto itself. Not only does your skin get stretched, but your muscles stretch and tear, and your body goes through all sorts of amazing (crazy) changes. I've read it is not uncommon for some pregnant women's abdominal muscles to literally split, and afterwards they never quite look the same. It can be corrected, but it usually takes surgury.

This whole sagging skin thing is probably a combination of things, though. I agree with what the dude was saying in much of the article (exercise is key--it was the only way I lost my abs the first time around), but it doesn't account for everything.

Nutrition, hydration, and support (for those of us with breasts) are things that should never be ignored. I aquired some wrinkles in my face due to lose skin. They went away after a year, but for a while I looked older than I was. You can't do "crunches" very easily with your face. :p

Adding lean mass can help, but it's not likely to help that much. Since muscle is more dense, something liek 1.14 or so, you'll see less volumentric increase with LBM than you will with excessive adipose.

In extreme cases, the only option is surgery.

loose skin and stretch marks

Im only 14 soon to be 15 and i want to loose quite a bit of weight right now i wiegh around 187 and im 5'7 but im a big person so i dont really look that fat but at my highest i was 216 when i was a lot younger like 10 or 11 i want to get down to around 145 or 150 i was wondering if i would have a lot of loose skin or will it go away and will my stretchmarks fade away any?

I doubt you will ever have a loose skin problem. You may get stretch marks, but don't worry about them too much. You're young, and your skin is full of collagen and will do all sorts of stretching without permanent damage.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far!

If you in fact get stretch marks - bath and body works sells a product called stretch mark solution, its in a body butter type container that's light brown. It works WONDERS!!
Note: Palmers lotion is a close second.

I have to honest, I have stretch marks. Lots of them on my hips thighs, stomach, and a few on my breasts. They don't go away. They do fade but if they were really deep they fade but look like scars. I got the ones on my hips and thighs when I was a 13 ( 14 years ago) and they are still there. Cocoa butter does not help either. It has to do with genetics. I'm not trying to burst your bubble but this is what I have learned.

But don't feel bad because they do fade and I have never had any insults or been rejected because of it. Lots of people have them. We all have growing pains. The most important thing is the weight loss!!

I for one have PLENTY of stretch marks and they make me feel very insecure. I can't even wear short sleeves w/o being embarassed b/c they're all over my upper arms. I always knew i was very overweight, but i never saw myself that way until i started developing the stretch marks. Maybe that's ridiculous. Anyway, I've heard that there's nothing that can be done about them unless you want to go through laser surgery but I don't want to go that route. I suppose I'll try that bath and body works stuff and pray it works!!! If not, I'll just learn to live w/ them. After all, like bglittert1979 said "The most important thing is the weight loss"

I obtained stretch marks at a young age through constant yoyo dieting they don't really go away but vitamin e oil is suppose to reduce them, zinc is good for loose skin also try a good quality multi vitamin. regards sam:)

I recently did some research on this and it seems that for preventing stretchmarks you should regularly moisturise the areas most at risk with products along the lines of Cocoa Butter, Aloe Vera Gel, or any other moisturiser, particularly those with Vitamin A & E.

For stretchmark removal Retin-A cream, which is only available by prescription from a doctor (although it seems there are some websites that sell it too) works well at stimulating collagen production and skincell renewal.

Another useful product is Emu Oil ... which is oil taken from the skin of Emus - sounds odd I know! But apparently it is very good for skin problems including stretchmarks.

There is always microdermabrasion too.

Wait until you have lost all of your weight or are close to your goal. Meanwhile continue to read up on all the things available. Myself? I was tired of girdles to hold the skin in. My skin flapped in front. If I ran, it beat me up. I had a tummy tuck and after I was over the shock of pain that comes with it and the long recovery time, I am completely satisfied. No more skin in my way, or lower belly hanging in my lap. What freedom I feel!
You may be ready for drastic measures when you have reached your weight loss goal. Dont discount the TT yet!

I've been worried about this too.

I have what someone once referred to as a "double gut," and it's pretty disgusting. When I lose weight, I'm afraid that I'll have excess skin.

My aunt lost a lot of weight and has excess skin, particularly on her arms. She had gastric bypass, though, and she doesn't eat right or exercise... so she probably could get rid of them, but I'm not sure.

I have stretch marks everywhere-- my arms, my legs, my stomach, my chest. It's revolting. They're not pink anymore. They're white.

I've been overweight for so long...

But you're young yet. Don't worry about it too much. If you're exercising regularly, and loosing a small amount regularly, the skin will go away with the weight. And once the stretch marks fade to white, you'd be surprised at how few people will actually notice them. You might, but nobody else will. I have some on my breasts that have been there for a few years and even I don't notice them anymore. My hubby didn't ever notice them, I don't think. He's just glad I get naked in front of him.:p

Im guessing his theory works for the most part. But there are people that its just not going to work for no matter how long they try.
But if the gimmick makes money im sure he will keep on doing it :)

Extra Skin

Just wondering if this is something that I should expect and be prepared for...

I know a number of our posters have reached there goals, or are very close, and I am wondering what your experience with extra skin has been. I've been told that lots of exercise will make most of the skin shrink with your body.

If a person has the extra skin, is it something that will go away with time, or is it something that only surgery will remove?

Hey I just noticed your ticker- you are doing GREAT!! And funny, you are asking the same questions I've had in my head! Hope you get an answer to this because I really would like to know also.

The mom of a girl I work with is the nutritional director of a local hospital, and she had told me that skin will shrink a small amount naturally, but otherwise the only option is surgery once it stops. She specifically said that exercise will help tone your muscles and keep the muscles from being flabby, but won't help the actual skin at all.

But I have to wonder: of all the examples I've seen of people who have lost a lot of weight; are they all just hiding extra skin under their clothes or have surgery? I find that kind of hard to believe, unless you're talking about a loss of several hundres pounds....but then again, maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part....

It depends on alot of factors. Rate of loss and nutrients for people can play an important roles. There are both topical and supplemental avenues you can take that work great ALONG SIDE a good resistance program and diet.
